ONE FISH, TWO FISH, RED FISH, BIG FISH!

BY RESIDENT AND JUNIOR WRITER HANNAH CORBITT

What better way to kick off the first musical of the season than with a performance like this one? Rockridge Performing Arts put on a colorful and heartfelt performance set to the musical Big Fish. Originally based on the novel by Daniel Wallace and the film directed by Tim Burton, the story follows Will, a man with a growing family and a lack of imagination. His father, Edward Bloom, used to tell him the whimsical tales of his life and the lessons that came with it. As Will got older, though, the stories lost their magic and became a thing of the past. Will’s journey then transforms into an exploration of imagination and important life lessons as he is determined to see the truth behind these old tales, even as his father’s life is coming to a close.

Big Fish leaves its audience with an important lesson: Don’t be scared of life, and don’t be afraid to live it.

Rockridge’s version of this beautiful story drew in a big audience, along with many fellow high school theater students who left with tears in their eyes after the heartfelt performance. Rockridge High School is known for its many theater-oriented programs. RRPA most recently was awarded a home state championship title for their performance of the play, The Trench. RRPA also runs a two-week theater summer camp. Come check out Beauty and the Beast this summer! More information about the entire performance season can be found on the RRPA website: www. rockridgeperformingarts.org.
