Resident Nayer Beshay recently had an exciting trip to Qatar to attend the World Cup! It was organized as a lastminute surprise by his wife Christine to catch the Quarterfinal games. Since he has previously attended World Cups, he was able to navigate the process for entry permits, buying game tickets and more with ease. During his stay, he also caught up with an old friend that had moved to Qatar and even had the chance to try out wearing an Arabic Gutra. Travel can often result in unique situations: “at one point I found myself walking in the middle of a security escort for the Qatari First Lady Sheikha Moza in a public park,” he said. Additionally, “I was also interviewed on Arabic live TV outside the stadium!” he said. His favorite part of the four-day excursion was attending two games on the same day. As a result of his trip, Nayer has a recommendation: “Do not miss the World Cup experience...it’s coming here to the U.S. in less than 4 years!”
