INTRODUCING ZOHA RAFI!

Our much-awaited little princess arrived on the morning of September 5, 2022, at Stone Springs Hospital. She is the sister to two excited elder brothers: Ziyad and Zahran, and daughter to parents Faraz Rafi and Rafia Hashmi. She weighed 8 lbs. and was 20 inches tall. She came out with a head full of dark hair with a calm and quiet personality. Fortunately, post-Covid relaxed rules at the hospital allowed the siblings to visit her. Seeing such a little being in their company, the boys couldn’t contain their excitement and examined the baby girl closely to see how she functioned and tried to comfort her often.

The name Zoha is an Arabic word that means “Morning Light.”

From the Islamic perspective, it’s preferred that the newborn’s head is shaved on the seventh day after the birth followed by the sacrifice of a goat/sheep distributed amongst family, friends and needy. Zoha’s dad carefully shaved her head at home which took more than an hour. Both boys patiently watched the head full of hair cleaned up. Traditionally, the worth of gold equivalent to the weight of the hair is donated. We also celebrated Zoha’s arrival with a festive dinner (referred as Aqeeqah in Islam) with family and friends. We are so thankful to have family, friends, and neighbors who came to welcome our little bundle of joy and helped with the transition in various ways!
