OPERATIONS TEAM OVERNIGHT STREET PARKING

by Matt Murphy, Willowsford HOA Field Operations Manager

Willowsford’s Operations Team is excited about the spring season! For the second year in a row, Down to Earth Landscaping is caring for all four villages. Their efforts last season were a success and we saw positive improvements throughout the community. To streamline the look of the community, the HOA switched Brush Hog maintenance to March. This will sync our efforts with the Conservancy and, additionally, it will provide the natural environment for a full year moving into the growing season. It will also allow warm weather grasses to overseed for the next growing season.

We’re working on initiatives to preserve our trees by teaming up with Down to Earth Landscaping and Savatree to do various maintenance on our community trees to help them grow healthy and strong for the long term. We look forward to continuing to provide you with the most beautiful and natural community to live in!

Trash Policing of Common Areas Year-Round

WHAT IS THE RULE?

Willowsford’s Community Charter prohibits overnight parking of vehicles on public or private streets. A recent visual inspection found 165 cars parked overnight on Willowsford streets.

WHY DO WE HAVE THIS RULE?

Standards are established to ensure Willowsford continues to be one of the most desirable communities in which to live. Overnight, on-street parking is prohibited for a variety of reasons including access for emergency vehicles and residents, safety of small children, and overall esthetics.

HOW IS THE RULE ENFORCED?

The first line of enforcement is you. Residents may report violations by emailing a date and time stamped photo of the vehicle to HOA staff (HOA@willowsford.com). Reports will be reviewed and remedies to address the violation will be provided as described in Willowsford’s Due Process Procedures. Most violations are corrected this way, but if the issue persists, homeowners may lose privileges to use community services and facilities (pool, gym, events, etc.) and/or a monetary fine may be imposed.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

In 2021, we asked for your feedback regarding the prohibition of overnight, on-street parking. Survey response is as follows:

• Over 50% of respondents wanted to keep the existing rule and enforcement practices

• 12% wanted to keep the existing rule, but enhance enforcement

Conclusion

Overnight, on-street parking is prohibited by Willowsford’s Community Charter and more than half of the community views this as a good rule; some even want enhanced enforcement. Please respect the desires of your neighbors and abide by the rule.

If you love Willowsford’s natural beauty, then there are many things we, as a community, can do to preserve a healthy and greener future. At Willowsford Conservancy we celebrate over a decade of caring for the open spaces, grasslands and trails. Willowsford offers a place to appreciate reflection and recreation, take in the clean air, and enjoy the healthy food grown at Willowsford Farm.

Spending time in nature is not just a leisurely activity; it can be a purposeful investment for the health of our families. It seems the path of least resistance is to spend more time indoors, making the accessibility to green spaces even more valuable. At Willowsford Conservancy, we understand the importance of immersing children in nature. Our programs aim to spark new ideas for conservation and encourage children to love the great outdoors while taking a break from screens. We want kids to be kids, explore our neighborhood nature preserves, and appreciate all that is Willowsford.

To celebrate nature, we invite you to Willowsford Conservancy’s 2nd Annual Earth Day Celebration on Friday, April 21, at the Boat House from 5pm-7pm. Families can enjoy a farm-inspired box dinner or bring a picnic, while enjoying an evening outside with a live band and children’s activities.

So, get outside and reconnect with nature! Please consider joining the Conservancy team for Earth Day on April 21, or maybe just make time for a walk on the trails. Every day can be Earth Day at Willowsford!
