WHAT DOES "RESIDENT' MEAN?

Resident means you live within the Wheeling Park District boundaries. In addition, all children enrolled as students in School Districts 21 and 23 are granted resident rates on qualifying non-contractual youth programs. For a complete explanation of these terms, please see page 48.

If you have never used our registration system and want to qualify for resident fees, please stop by the Guest Service Desk at the CRC and show proof of residency status. Valid drivers license, utility bill, copy of lease or mortgage agreement are acceptable forms of proof. Non-resident guests are always welcome to take part in programs and activities..

Building Confidence in the Water!

Our swim programs provide safe, supportive instruction for all ages. From parent/tot classes and preschool lessons to our progressive Swim School, teens, and adult classes, swimmers build confidence and skills at every stage. Private lessons are also available for personalized instruction.

These classes focuses on development of motor skills in the water, including blowing bubbles, kicking on front and back, supported floats, and alternating arm scoops. Students are also given structured opportunities to further explore the water while using appropriate techniques and games geared toward the development of their skills. Upon completion of the two levels, your child is eligible to enroll in our Swim School.

SWIM SCHOOL Ages: 6+ years

The 6 levels of this program emphasize strong technique, safety, and meet the needs of swimmers at any ability level. Students learn to be safe and relaxed in the water while working on core skills in Levels 1-2, start working towards freestyle in Level 3, learn backstroke, butterfly, and breaststroke in Levels 4-5, and get ready for swim team in Level 6. Previous participants are placed in an appropriate level, and new students are tested on the first day of class.

TEEN SWIM LESSONS Ages: 12 - 17 years

The Beginner Teen Swimming Lessons is the perfect instruction for teens who are new to swimming or have limited experience in the water. These lessons focus on building confidence, developing fundamental swimming skills, and ensuring water safety in a fun and supportive environment with others similar in age and ability.

ADULT SWIM LESSONS Ages: 18+ years

Adult Swim Lessons are personalized based upon the participant’s present skill level. Instructors work with participants to improve skills and learn swimming fundamentals.

Develop basketball skills and learn the rules of the game through drills and scrimmages played every week through classes designed to promoted good sportsmanship and teamwork

JUNIOR DRIBBLERS

The Junior Dribblers basketball program is designed to give children an opportunity to begin their basketball playing experience in a fun and supportive environment. During the class, activities are introduced to promote proper balance, equipment, hand eye coordination, following directions and early basketball fundamentals.

BASKETBALL LEAGUE

YOUTH WINTER BASKETBALL

Designed to promote sportsmanship and teamwork, all levels focus on understanding and enjoying the game. There is no season-ending tournament for any division. Leagues may combine with neighboring Park District’s to increase the number of teams. All players must have a Wheeling Park District reversible jersey, available for purchase at the guest service desk at the Community Recreation Center. $20 late fee will apply for all registrations after 12/10. Volunteer coaches are needed at every level! If you are interested in being a volunteer coach, please reach out to bjome@wheelingparkdistrict.com.

7TH-8TH GRADE YOUTH WINTER BASKETBALL

Wheeling Park District has teamed up with River Trails, Prospect Heights, Mount Prospect, Des Plaines and Northbrook Park Districts to create the Northwest Suburban Park District Basketball Conference. Games start in January after the middle school season ends. The regular season schedule will be followed by a single elimination playoff tournament. Practice days/times will vary depending on the availability of volunteer coaches. All players must have a Wheeling Park District reversible jersey, available for purchase at the guest service desk at the Community Recreation Center. $20 late fee will apply for all registrations after 12/7. Volunteer coaches are needed, if you are interested in being a volunteer coach, please reach out to bjome@wheelingparkdistrict.com.

FUNdamentals are crucial for every soccer player. Players focus on foot placement while shooting, following through on their shot, manipulating the ball in creative ways, defensive stance, and much more; all while participating in our fun games and adventure themed activities.

LIL STRIKERS SOCCER: JUNIORS

The Juniors Strikers program introduces players to the fun and excitement of the world’s most popular sport, soccer. This class uses age appropriate games and drills to promote motor skills and familiarity with a soccer ball.

SOCCER CLINIC 101

Players are introduced to the fundamentals of soccer tactics such as passing the ball, offensive moves, defensive moves, keeping/controlling the ball, and taking the ball away from the opposing team, while also learning to score and prevent goals.

In the next stage of their progression, players increase their playing stamina and speed on and off the ball. The clinic’s specific technique training involve strength and placement shooting, landing on shooting foot, precision passing, settling the ball with various body parts and more!

This introductory volleyball program is designed to introduce your child to the sport of volleyball. Players will develop motor skills, hand-eye coordination and improve listening skills and teamwork in a fun environment.

VOLLEYBALL SKILLS CLINIC 1

This clinic includes instruction on all major volleyball skills; serving, passing, setting and attacking. Players receive a solid foundation of these fundamental skills through fun and active drills, building up to team play.

VOLLEYBALL SKILLS CLINIC 2

This clinic focuses on progressing all skills including, transitioning from free ball, offense, defense, and developing specific positions. This is a great opportunity for players to enhance their skill level and knowledge of the game. Kneepads are recommended.

VOLLEYBALL SKILLS CLINIC 3

This skills clinic includes advanced instruction on all major volleyball skills: serving, passing, setting and attacking. This class is for the advanced volleyball player that has a strong foundation of these skills and is looking for a more intensive focus. Kneepads are recommended.

Players are introduced to stance, receiving, rushing, blocking and defense. Each week ends with a scrimmage encouraging teamwork and sportsmanship. Players always get to play either receiver or running back each week.

This playful class is designed to introduce our youngest ninjas to movement, balance, and coordination through age-appropriate obstacle challenges. In a supportive and energetic environment kids will climb, jump, and swing their way through fun obstacle courses that change regularly—helping them build confidence, strength, and a love for active play! BEGINNER OBSTACLE COURSE RACING

This 50-minute class is designed to introduce young ninjas to the fundamentals of obstacle course racing in a fun and supportive environment. Each session includes a 10-minute warm-up and stretch, 30 minutes of rotating obstacle stations with new challenges each week, and finishes with 5 minutes of conditioning to build strength and endurance. Young children develop memory, flexibility, strength, and coordination in fun yet disciplined activities designed for growing minds and bodies. Illinois Shotokan Karate Club is Chicagoland’s premier karate school, taught under the direction of John DiPasquale, four-time National Champion and President of the American Shotokan Karate Association.

YOUTH/ADULT KARATE

Students ages 7+ enjoy a good mix of strength training with cardiovascular and flexibility exercises. Parents this class is an excellent opportunity to spend quality time with your child while conditioning muscles, developing coordination, and improving cardiovascular fitness. Fees are per person.

Meet at the Chevy Chase Country Club Gable Room for a 1-hour individual golf lesson. Lessons cover grip, stance, ball position, ball alignment, swing plane, balance, pre-shots routine, and more!

LADIES GOLF LESSONS

Meet at the Chevy Chase Gable Room for 2 hours of indoor golf lessons and time for mingling and charcuterie.

Guy has been passionate about golf since childhood, with over two decades of experience playing and teaching the game. As the Head Pro at the Wheeling Park District for the past three years, he’s coached golfers of all skill levels. His teaching philosophy focuses on helping players build on their natural strengths and refine their swing to achieve personal improvement.

CHI FLOW

Chi Flow is a Tai Chi and Chi Kung based movement program that connects body, breath and intention. With slow, flowing motions and coordinated breathing, students learn to awaken and circulate internal energy (Chi), improving balance, posture and focus. Ideal for reducing stress and promoting overall wellness, Chi Flow is accessible to all levels.

PICKLEBALL

BEGINNER PICKLEBALL LESSONS

Beginner Pickleball Lesson (No Experience):

Commit to learning the game of Pickleball with other beginners. Players will learn the basics of pickleball including stroke mechanics, how to serve, volley, dink, hit a 3rd drop shot, drive, score, and more in drill and game-based scenarios. By the end of the session, players will know the proper pickleball etiquette, strategy of the game, and have the confidence to participate in drop-in pickleball programs.

ADVANCED BEGINNER PICKLEBALL LESSONS (LEVEL 2)

Advanced Beginner Pickleball Lessons (Level 2 - Some Experience):

This class is for advancing beginners who have some experience and want to continue to improve their pickleball game. Players will participate in drills and work on consistency in forehand and backhand shots, serving, volleying, dinks, and lobs. Players will learn the strategy and ball placement and work on a softer game which will help take their game to the next level by learning to play smarter, not harder. All participants must have pickleball playing experience and must commit to the entire session.

INTERMEDIATE PICKLEBALL LESSONS (LEVEL 3)

Intermediate Small Group Training Pickleball Lessons (Maximum 4)

Elevate your game with these specialized intermediate-level pickleball sessions! Designed for players with at least one year of experience and a solid understanding of the game, this program focuses on refining techniques, building consistency, and improving shot accuracy. What to Expect:

Personalized Instruction: Sessions are tailored to the needs of the group. Skill Development: The first 30 minutes are dedicated to drills and skill enhancement. Gameplay Practice: The final 30 minutes reinforce lessons through gameplay.

The Wheeling Park District Drop-In Pickleball Program is ideal for recreational players who want to stay active, have fun, and socialize in a relaxed environment. It’s perfect for the casual player who enjoys the game without the pressure of serious competition. All skill levels are welcome—just bring your enthusiasm for a good time! Games are played to 11, win by 2, and when others are waiting, please rotate off the court after your match. You’re encouraged to mix it up and play with different partners, though you can also paddle up with your own foursome. We look forward to seeing you on the court!

CREATIVE ARTS

Ignite Imagintion & Self-Expression

Ignite imagination and self-expression through dynamic forms like dance, theatre, and visual arts, where creativity comes to life. From the energy of cheerleading to the captivating performances of theatre, each art form embraces creativity and connection.

PERFORMING ARTS

DANCE/CHEER

CHEERLEADING

Students will learn 3-4 new cheers weekly, work on form, flexibility, and jumps as well as add on to their poms dance routine. Cheerleaders will get a chance to perform at one Park District event or have a parent watch performance on the last day of class.

BOLLYWOOD YOUTH DANCE

This class will be a combination of Bollywood, Indian folk , hip-hop, contemporary and expression filled with fun moves inspired from the world of Bollywood. Whether the child is a beginner or an advanced dancer, group classes give the kids the opportunity to learn a variety of dances in a fun, low-pressure atmosphere.

Kids train in spy skills, crack secret codes, sneak through laser mazes, and work together to solve the ultimate mystery Pizza will be provided.

Kids will have a sweet time creating their own heart shaped pizzas, decorating cookies, and making Valentine's Day themed crafts. All children will receive a goodie bag.

EARLY DEVELOPMENT

PATHWAY TO PRESCHOOL

Our Pathway to Preschool program is designed to guide 2 and 3 Year Olds preparing for independent preschool next school year. The program begins with parent-tot classes, where caregivers and children explore, play, and learn together. As children gain confidence, they move into partial parent-tot classes, gradually encouraging independence while still offering support. The final stage features independent preschool classes, giving children the opportunity to engage, explore, and socialize on their own in a nurturing environment. Each step in this 14-class program is thoughtfully designed to support your child’s social, emotional, and early learning development. One Parent Per Child Must Participate for the Parent Tot Components. Must be two as of 3/1/2026

Join us for a cozy winter morning filled with snowflake-themed- crafts, music, story time, and sensory fun. We will provide a sweet seasonal treat! An adult must remain in the room and participate during class with their child. One adult per child.

Crafts will match a fun winter theme each day. It's a great way for little ones to stay busy, have fun, and make new friends during winter break!

SNOWFLAKE FRIENDS PARTY

Let’s explore the magic of snow! In this cozy winter class, little ones will make their own sparkly snowflakes, play snowy games, and enjoy a winter-themed storytime with hot cocoa. Each child will create a snowflake craft to take home and remember the chilly fun. Please send your child with a nut-free lunch and a water bottle.

VALENTINE'S DAY PARTY

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with our Preschool staff! We will make lunch together, create Valentines and have a dance party!

BUGS, BUTTERFLIES & BIRDS

A 3-week nature class where kids explore bugs, butterflies, and birds through crafts, stories, games, and outdoor fun. Please send your child with a nut-free lunch and a water bottle each day.
