The Yukon Chamber of Commerce is leading a delegation to Edmonton to attend the 2017

Opportunities North is the preeminent annual northern business conference organised and hosted by a partnership of the Yukon Chamber of Commerce, the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce and the Northwest Territories Chamber of Commerce. This event will be an opportunity for Yukon business community members to interact with their peers from the Northwest Territories and Alberta, and learn about the latest developments and trends impacting northern businesses.

The Yukon Chamber has negotiated special hotel rates, as well as a generous discount from Air North on their flights to and from Edmonton. Furthermore, we have worked with the Yukon government department of Economic Development to arrange for up to $900 per business for 20 individual businesses or industry associations to help offset the cost of attending the conference.

The delegation package includes:  Three nights’ hotel accommodation;  Ground transportation to and from Edmonton International Airport;  Delegates reception on the evening of Monday, September 11;  Registration for the Opportunities North 2017 conference;  Admission for one to the Tuesday night, Sept. 12 Edmonton Chamber Trade Show Mixer,  Admission for one to the Opportunities North Reception and Dinner, Wednesday, September 13.

Note: The delegate package does not include airfare, but delegates can take advantage of the Air North discounted rates by contacting Klondike Travel at (867) 668-5655.

The early-bird registration package price offered until August 11, 2017 is $1275 not including airfare. Beginning on August 12, the price will be $1375. Business Launch Solutions Launches Awards for Entrepreneurs over 50 Know any entrepreneurs who started a business after reaching 50?

The inaugural WISE 50 Over 50 Awards recognizing and celebrating 50 entrepreneurs over 50 are open for applications and nominations.

As you may know, Canadians over 50 are the fastest growing segment of the business start-up population. What better time than Canada’s 150th to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of people who are harnessing the power of experience to make an idea or a long-held dream a reality?

Open to Canadian residents who started their business after turning 50, the award’s submission deadline is August 31. A panel of judges across North America will select the 50 winning companies, and the awards will be presented in Fall 2017. Submissions will be accepted from founders of new businesses, purchasers of existing businesses and franchises, and initiators of family and intergenerational businesses – as long as the entrepreneur is a majority owner of the business and the head office is in Canada. Applications, supporters and more information may be found on the WISE website awards section.

Entrepreneurs have made huge impacts throughout the history of Canada. It’s time for entrepreneurs over 50 to be recognized for the wisdom, initiative, skills, and experience they bring to the business world – modern-day heroes, models, and mentors.
