SEE - The Brighton Documentary Film Festival

futureevents

Fri 30th March - Sun 1st April, Various A city-wide celebration of documentaries; films that can inspire, inform, upset and delight using nothing but real life. Screenings and talks take place over the weekend, including a talk from Happy Mondays’ Shaun Ryder on his upcoming UFO doc. series and a showing of Anyone Can Play Guitar, a film about influential Oxford music scene. seefestival.org

Simon Amstell Sat 2nd June, Brighton Dome It’s odd to realise that Simon Amstell only fronted four series of Never Mind The Buzzcocks compared to the 17 Mark Lamarr presented. He was so good as the presenter that many see it as his show. On top of that, he created one of my favourite shows of 2010, Grandma’s House, and is now touring a stand-up show. I can’t wait. brightondome.org

Avenue Q Mon 4th - Sat 9th June, Theatre Royal In 2004, Avenue Q won the Tony Award for Best New Musical, Best Book Of A Musical and Best Original Score. Fast forward eight years and the musical, set on a fictional New York street and featuring both human and puppet cast members, still feels as fresh as it did then. Get your tickets now and prepare to laugh, hard. ATGtickets.com

Joan Rivers Sat 20th Oct, Brighton Centre You might think I’m writing about Joan Rivers’ Now Or Never Tour far too early in the year but believe me, as possibly the funniest comedian alive, her show will sell out. I’ve been laughing so hard at memories of past TV appearances that it’s taken me three attempts just to write this. This is definitely my most anticipated show of 2012. brightoncentre.co.uk
