Basketball and fun for all

 Plans for the Lions Club’s Lizzy Haddon Invitational Basketball Tournament are coming together. Eighty to 100 teams, from all over the tri-state area, will converge in Haddonfield on Sat May 4 and Sun May 5 for competitions held in local gyms. Each team will play at least four games. Between games, participants and their families will have an opportunity to peruse the business district’s Moms the Word offerings. It is expected that the tournament will bring about 3,000 people to the borough. Local merchants and restaurants will roll out the red carpet for guests. Attendees will enjoy goody bags stuffed with coupons and gifts. Started by Sam and Katie Donnellon in 2000, the Tournament is celebrating its 13th year. The Donnellon’s passed the tournament on to the Lions Club. The club hosted the tournament for the first time in 2006. Proceeds are donated to the Lions Club’s Blind Fund which aids sight-related charities and community activities. For more information, visit haddonfieldlions.org.
