Read-In announced

 In celebration of Black History Month, the Pop Shop (729 Haddon Ave, Collingswood) is encouraging local children participate in the Twenty-Third National African American Read-In. The Pop Shop will host two Read-Ins on Wed Feb 6. The free read-together events will take place at 9:30am and 5:30pm. Collingswood Public Library Director Brett Bonfield will provide books for all. Your children can take part – and have fun doing it – at the Pop Shop. around the Towns What’s Your Take?

The Collingswood Community Theatre will showcase Fiddler on the Roof in February.

When was the last time you took center stage?

• VIVIEN BROPHY, named for Julia Roberts’ character in Pretty Woman, “doesn’t like to be the center of attention.” She avoids center stage at all costs! Vivien hails from Audubon and works at Finizio’s Italian Eatery in Westmont.

• ALEX (4) and CAROL JACOBY are comfortable in the spotlight. Carol shared, “I used to dance – theatrical, jazz, and hip hop – in various productions.” Her last performance was in 2005. Alex recently took center stage in his first karate belt ceremony. The duo lives in Haddon Township.

• Haddon Township coach JOE PELLECCHIA (center) reported, “As a dad, I think of my kids and wife as taking center stage.” Joe prefers watching Haddon Township’s 5th grade girls travel basketball team from the sidelines. Coaches from left to right: ED FERRELL, JOE PELLECCHIA, and MATT ASHE.

• Even though WALT PATRUSKEY and GREG BULZAK don’t sing and dance, they still shine! “I was ‘center stage’ the day my kid was born,” declared Walt. Greg recently became the coordinator of a South Jersey Rugby Club tournament. Walt and Greg are pictured working at Finizio’s Italian Eatery.

• TONY GIANNINI has stood in the spotlight many times as a blackbelt in Tae Kwon Do and Tang Soo Do. Currently he is in the limelight because he’s a new business owner in Haddon Township. The All Star Kids Karate Academy took front page in a weekend edition of the Courier-Post. “Our story took up two pages!” he reports.

• Friends GILLIAN DENGLER (10) and DANIELLE BISHOP (10) love to take their musical talents to the stage. Gillian performed at a recent family gathering. “I played the piano while my cousins’ dog, Bailey, sang along,” she explained. Danielle took the solo spotlight at Ernie and Neal’s most recent concert at Haddon Township High School.

It’s when your competitors stop.

When’s the best time to advertise?

Why? Because when your name is the only one out there, it’s your phone that will likely ring first. Your Web site that will likely be clicked on. Your store that will likely be visited. When times are tough, advertising is one of the first expenses to be cut. But savvy business owners understand that keeping their name before the public is key to keeping their business afloat. They also know that newspapers are the most trusted advertising medium, next to word-of-mouth.* It’s a fact: Advertising works. And newspaper advertising works best. But only if you do it.
