Q: “Are there any alternatives to dentures?” A: Dentures are no longer the only way to restore a mouth that has little or no nonrestorable teeth. Strategically placed support, or implants, can now be used to support permanently cemented bridges, eliminating the need for a denture. The cost tends to be greater, but the implants and bridges more closely resemble the “feel” of real teeth. Dental implants are becoming the alternative of choice to dentures, but not everyone is a candidate for implants. Q:

“Why is it important to fix baby teeth that have decay? Aren’t they going to come out soon anyway?”

A: Jul 4

It is very important to maintain the baby teeth because these teeth hold space for the future eruption of the permanent teeth. If a baby tooth decays or is removed too early, the space necessary for the permanent teeth is lost and can only be regained through orthodontic treatment. Infected baby teeth can cause the permanent teeth to develop improperly resulting in stains, pits and weaker teeth.

Theatre fun for everyone!

 The Collingswood Community Theatre is preparing two summertime productions. • First up: Barnum, a colorful musical romp tracing the career of American showman PT Barnum from 1835 until the creation of “The Greatest Show On Earth” and his partnership with James Bailey. The show includes songs like, “There’s a Sucker Born Every Minute,” “The Colors of My Life,” and “Love Makes Such Fools of Us All.” Barnum will be presented Tue Jul 7, Wed Jul 8, and Thu Jul 9 at 7:30pm in the Grand Ballroom at the Scottish Rite (315 White Horse Pike). There will also be a matinee on Jul 8 at 1pm. Adult tickets cost $12; $7 for kids/seniors and can be purchased at Borough Hall, second floor, or at the door. • Next up: Really Rosie, a treat for young theater-goers. Based on the book by Maurice Sendak and including music by Carole King, Really Rosie will be presented on Tue Jul 14 at 1pm and 7pm and Wed Jul 15 at 1pm at the Grand Ballroom. Tickets are $5 and will be available at the door. Really Rosie chronicles the life and times of Avenue P’s resident drama queen, Rosie. Follow Rosie as she keeps the neighborhood kids entertained by acting out her elaborate show-biz fantasies. Group rates are available and special arrangements can be made for birthday parties by calling Mary Baldwin at 609-617-2220. For more information, visit collingswood communitytheatre.com.

Arts, crafts, and so much more!

 Mark your calendars, the Collingswood Crafts and Fine Art Festival will take place on Sat and Sun, Aug 8 and 9. The Festival promises crafts in wood, ceramics, glass, metal and more. This juried show will feature hand-woven clothing, leather and exquisite jewelry, and photography. Original watercolor, oil, collage, and etched works will be sold by fine artists. Those who stroll the Festival will be serenaded with live music. Face painting and family art activities will be offered by All Fired Up and Jubilee Beads. Don’t miss the silent auction featuring works by Festival artists. Proceeds will be donated to charity. Auto enthusiasts will not want to miss Subaru’s “Art of the Automobile” display. Award-winning new models will be featured. PATCO, celebrating the 40th anniversary of Speedline train service, will sponsor a fascinating view of “Art in Action.” Foodies will not be disappointed. The Collingswood restaurant scene always satisfies – whether you’re in the mood for a curbside snack or a full meal. Don’t forget to leave room for dessert! “The PATCO Train: Then and Now” will inspire artists who participate in the Festival’s rendering contest. Artists, young and old, will have two days to complete a piece in their medium of choice. For information, contact Perkins Art Center for the Arts at 833-0009. The Art Festival will coincide with Second Saturday. Attendees are invited to extend their stay into Saturday evening, dine at a Borough restaurant, listen to live music, and view the work of emerging artists throughout town. collingswood.com
