In Pursuit of Individual Excellence

Scholarship Policy Statement

Our College’s mission – In pursuit of individual excellence – encapsulates our approach to education and emphasises the individuality of the student experience.

By building on students’ abilities and developing their varying talents, we aim to achieve success for every child in an area of the curriculum . To do this, we must accept differences among students and encourage each to identify, and build upon individual strengths. Our underlying assumption is that self-esteem and confidence, the foundations of balanced lives, are achieved through repeated success, encouragement and care.

We recognise the role that we must play in preparing our students for healthy, productive lives in a rapidly changing world. To this end, our educational program is based on five key premises:

Christian Living: We follow Christian values and beliefs within the Anglican tradition.

Technology: All students must be prepared for a world of rapid and wide ranging technological change.

Environment Awareness: Through understanding and action, we can all respond to the pressing environmental issues of our time.

Multiculturalism: Our students must function effectively in the cultural diversity of our nation and the world.

Australian Identity: To honour Australia and promote national wellbeing through proud citizenship engaging with and demonstrating the values and characteristics of our nation.

To achieve our mission, we offer a broadly-based curriculum and an extensive Student Experiences program. We believe that only through vigorous involvement in the College’s offerings can students gain the best from their education and fulfil their God-given potential.

Families of all backgrounds are warmly invited to be part of our College and to share in our vision for excellence. Each offer of scholarship is subject to the completion of a successful enrolment interview which requires full disclosure of any special needs or learning disabilities.

The College reserves the right to make out of cycle scholarship offers to students who fall within special circumstances as determined by the College Principal.

Irrespective of the timing and to preserve the scholarship process, all scholarship applicants will be required to submit an application, pay the scholarship application fee, sit the Edutest exam and go through the usual scholarship process.

This is essentially a function of enrolments to assist the College in promoting excellence as described in our Mission Statement.

Students will be evaluated annually and where scholarship criteria has not been met, students will need to justify the continuance of there scholarship.

Statement: Please note that it will not be possible to enter into further discussions about an applicant’s suitability, once the final decision has been made.

The College Council reserves the right to determine annually the College’s scholarship offerings (i.e. how many to award and/or category priority).

The WestMAC Way

Mission Statement

WestMAC students are In Pursuit of Individual Excellence.

The WestMAC Way is guided by our three ways of being: being prepared and engaged, being kind to yourself, others and the environment, and being courageous.

These ways of being are the pillars which aim to build resilient, respectful and responsible individuals.

Being prepared and engaged

Love of Learning Curiosity Perseverance Passion Teamwork

Learning can sometimes be hard. However, with curiosity and perseverance, you can achieve great things.

Learning is about preparing for the future, and experimenting in the present, which creates a love for learning.

When things get tough, approach each obstacle with grit. Become a positive member of our community and bring others with you.

Being kind to yourself, others and our environment

Fairness Gratitude Acceptance/Forgiveness Love

Controlling & Managing emotions

Be grateful for the opportunities that exist. We are taught to love through important contexts such as RAVE, Chapel and SpiritED. However, the sharing of our kindness knows no boundaries.

Being courageous

Bravery Leadership Honesty Creativity Innovation

Sometimes you will fail and there will be things you don’t know and that’s okay. Be brave and take wise and calculated risks. Don’t be afraid to show your creativity - think outside of the box. Through your honest and innovative ways you will not only reach your potential, but also lead others.
