• The venue has fully compliant fire detection and suppression systems which include an emergency, warning and intercommunication system or EWIS.

Non-Smoking Venue

• Impact on non-smoking customer

• In the event of an emergency all persons within the venues will be instructed to evacuate to the designated evacuation point

• West HQ can provide induction to visitors on the following procedures:

o Emergency evacuation

o First Aid

• Hirer to ensure all attendees are issued with emergency contact numbers and familiar with West HQ emergency evacuation plan

• West HQ have qualified first aid officers and wardens on shift at all times.

• West HQ has a first aid room, however, First Aid kits, visitor medication and medical management plans are the responsibility of the individual patrons.

• West HQ is a non-smoking venue. Smoking within the venue or where food is being consumed is not permitted. Smoking areas outside of the venue are provided; persons wishing to smoke should make themselves aware of these areas and obey all signage.

• Smoking of tobacco or any other product intended to be smoked, including e-cigarettes, is not permitted within four (4) metres of any entrance door.

• No food is to be consumed in any designated smoking area

• West HQ staff monitor patrons demeanours and conduct and are available to handle security issues should they arise

• All visitors to the venue have a duty of care to take reasonable care of their own health and safety, take reasonable care that they do not adversely affect the health and safety of others and to comply with any reasonable instructions relating to safety.

• All hirer are advised to ensure that strict management and supervision of their children is maintained at all times.

• Behaviour, noise, dress standards, language, respect and cleanliness should be maintained to the highest standard by all participants.

• Designated and clearly marked in-water activity areas

• Use of large lane ropes and dividers

• Clearly identified private & designated activity area

• No public access to school activity area

• The aquatic centre is not air-conditioned and the temperature inside can be high during hot weather. Participants are advised to drink water regularly, participants are advised to bring their own bottles of water.

• Entrance, meeting areas, pathways, change rooms and activity areas to be free from hazards; inspected prior to event

• Each activity will start and finish out of the water

• Students walk to water entrance point to minimise slips, trips and falls (the “No Running” rule applies at all times)

• Equipment at water edge to be minimal & tidy at all times

• Only equipment in good working order to be used

• Minimal equipment use at all times

Participating in free swim time

• Risk of drowning

• Diving into shallow water

• Injuries white participating in sports

• Weak swimmers in deep water

• First Aid facilities and lifeguard to be on hand at all times

• Hirer must complete a head count pre and post activity; one activity at a time

• Do not allow non-swimmers to participate in events without flotation aids

• Have weak swimmers start in the water and near the pool edge

• Have teachers or parents in the water to assist weak swimmers

• No diving allowed in the pools

• Lifeguards are on site

• Teachers to fully supervise activities

• Teachers must identify weak / non swimmers

• Teachers must ensure students follow centre rules

• Teachers must brief participants on rules and behaviour

• No Diving allowed in the pools

Fatigued swimmers

• Drowning, exhaustion

• Hirer must fully supervise all activities

• Lifeguards are on site

• All activities and skills to meet industry standards and be appropriate for student ability

• Activities shall be conducted in a water depth and location suitable to swimmer ability. Non-swimmers use areas around pool edge and shallow (to stand)

• Use of easily held, quality lane ropes and dividers

• Activities structures to be suitable to weakest student ability (endurance) in each particular activity or event

All electrical leads for personal equipment brought in by an individual or organisation for training purposes must:

• Be free from cuts, abrasions fraying, internal wires are not exposed

• Not be repaired with insulation tape or other homemade repairs

• Have plugs are secured to the leads with no exposed internal wiring

• Ensure plug pins are not loose, bent or damaged

All hired equipment has current test and tag (within 3 months of inspection date).

• Electrical equipment should not be exposed to water before, during or after a performance

Hanging Objects • Fall, collapse, flammable materials Overhead structures such as signs, banners, theming and other stand elements must not be flammable or able to collapse on persons below, must be stable and rigged by a qualified rigger.

West HQ has an Emergency Management Plan (EMP) and an Emergency Control Organisation consisting of a Chief Warden, Area Wardens and Wardens. In the event of an emergency the West HQ Wardens will assist in attendees as directed by the Chief Warden. In the event of an evacuation, the wardens will direct attendees to one of the three emergency assembly areas as shown in the site plan below.
