WELCOME!
At Western Canada Theatre, we know that independent theatre companies are the backbone of Canada’s vibrant performing arts scene. Artists like Pippa Mackie and Ryan Gladstone, and companies like Monster Theatre, exemplify the tenacity and artistry that sustain Canadian theatre. Many productions that grace our stages find their momentum through the Fringe Festival circuit. This very show toured across Canada and The United States from 2022 to 2024, and now we bring that same spirit to Kamloops. By supporting bold new work, we welcome fresh perspectives and fearless creativity to our audiences.
There is something magical about the Pavilion Theatre. It has nurtured artistic ingenuity in Kamloops since 1988 and will continue to do so for years to come. As we look ahead to the Kamloops Centre for the Performing Arts, the Pavilion remains an essential part of our artistic landscape—a place for experimentation, risk-taking, and championing new work. We are committed to its continued role in fostering creativity in our community.
Theatre isn’t just about putting on a show—it’s about igniting imaginations and building a strong theatre community. This production will entertain and surprise you, reminding us all of the excitement that live performance brings. To our everpassionate audience, thank you for being part of this journey— your presence keeps the magic of live theatre alive.
Enjoy the show!
Matt Eger, Executive Director

DIRECTOR’S NOTE
When we first premiered Juliet: A Revenge Comedy in Winnipeg in 2019 it was on a tiny, beer soaked stage in the corner of the upstairs of the Kings Head Pub. There was a wild, raucous, unpretentious energy that permeated the show. We had arranged some privacy screens in a small alcove which formed our ‘dressing room’, and there was a window that we would look out of and gawk at the line-up of folks coming to see us that went all the way around the block. We had a feeling that we had tapped into something pretty special.
Little did we know that we were only a few short months away from all live performances being put on hold. So, even though we had garnered interest in the show, its future was in doubt. But we soldiered on! We did a live streaming version for the National Arts Centre via Zoom, with each of us in our own homes, locked down, pretending to pass a spatula/dagger from screen to screen. When we were allowed to perform again, we did a run where we had to wear masks everytime we were close to the audience. Audiences and presenters kept asking for the show, and honestly, we really loved performing it.
When you see the show, we will have just returned from a run OffBroadway at the SoHo Playhouse. But through all these ups and downs, we’ve tried to stay true to the same sweaty, raucous, unpretentious energy from that original run. We hope you enjoy the show half as much as we enjoy performing it!
Ryan Gladstone, Playwright, Director & Performer
