PRESCHOOL 2018 - 2019 School Year

Keppler Academy Introduction & Philosophy

The West Chicago Park District’s Keppler Academy Preschool focuses on the developmental needs of children from three to five years old. Keppler Academy is designed to give children the tools and experiences necessary to assure a positive transition to kindergarten. Our program offers a warm, nurturing, and friendly environment where children can explore, create, and flourish. Socialization skills and independence are developed through a variety of daily skills and exercises. Our philosophy is that all children learn through hands-on experiences, exploration, and positive interactions with others. Every child is unique and will develop at their own pace. We foster an environment that will help all children succeed emotionally, physically, and socially. Every child has their own learning style and we give many options to explore and build on those abilities. (GR)

Registration, Payment & Additional Information Registration for the 2018/19 school year began March 1 for residents and March 7 for non-residents. Children must be age appropriate for program by September 1, 2018. There is a $50 fee per child due at the time of registration to secure your child’s place in the program. Dance Style

Description

Ballet

Generally accepted all over the world as one of the most artistic forms of dance entertainment cherished by people of all ages. Ballet is theatrical entertainment in which dancers, usually accompanied by music, tell a story or express a mood through their movements. The technique of ballet is elaborate and requires many years of training. Is rhythmic and fun, Tap Dance strengthens students’ abilities to count and dance in time with music and increases the speed of their foot work. Tap is also a great way to improve coordination in young dancers.

Tap

Hip Hop

Fun, quick-paced, and energetic, Hip Hop dance finds its roots in street dancing. Students learn to coordi¬nate movements with music and are encouraged to express themselves as individuals. The boy’s only classes allow the boys to do a more physical type of choreography which includes tricks used in breakdancing.

Jazz

A fun upbeat kind of dance that teaches the students overall coordination and rhythm with funky upbeat music. Jazz dancing is the most commonly used style of dance on television shows, movies, music video and commercials. It is fun and energetic.

Lyrical

A combination of Jazz and Ballet performed to the words of songs that tell a story. The dance becomes the story of the song and the dancers are telling the story through their movements. This is a great form of dance for the dancer that loves to be expressive when they dance. Dancers learn upbeat choreography while dancing with poms as seen at many sporting events

Poms

Combo Classes

16

Allow students to have the opportunity to experience two types of dance instruction during each class. These Combo Classes are a great way for students to find out what type of dance they really enjoy. They are a great way for beginners to get a taste of different types of dance. As they get older and more experienced they can focus on the single class in the type of dance they most enjoy to improve their technique and become stronger dancers.

It’s a purely defensive sport, based on other’s aggressive moves. It involves techniques of throwing, grappling, submission holds. It all starts from a standing position and then moves to the ground for submission techniques or to pin your opponent. Promotions are based on competitions from green, brown and black belt ranks. ARC Fall Classic Pickleball Tournament

Join our Picklers at the ARC Center for our first annual skill based round robin scramble pickleball tournament. This mixer tournament requires no partners, as 8 players of similar skill level will be grouped onto a court. Each player on that court plays a total of 7 games to 15 points. This is similar to a round robin, except you have a different partner for each game. The top two players from each court with the largest winning margin (score the most points and give up the least) are awarded first and second place. Since there will be 9 courts, this is like having 9 tournaments simultaneously! Awards and lunch of sub sandwiches, salads, chips, cookies and water included. (ML) 18+ yrs

Enjoy the healing benefits of Yin Yoga for both the mind and the body. This style of yoga is a more meditative approach with a physical focus that goes much deeper to access the deep connective tissues within the body that encompass a joint, such as the hips, pelvis, and lower spine. Yin Yoga postures are done mainly on the floor, and are unique in that you are asked to relax in the posture, soften the muscles and focus on the breath as you hold each posture for several minutes. As one ages, flexibility in the joints decreases, and Yin Yoga is a wonderful way to maintain that flexibility and live a healthy way of life.
