PRESCHOOL 2019 - 2020 School Year

Keppler Academy Introduction & Philosophy

The West Chicago Park District’s Keppler Academy Preschool focuses on the developmental needs of children from three to five years old. Keppler Academy is designed to give children the tools and experiences necessary to assure a positive transition to kindergarten. Our program offers a warm, nurturing, and friendly environment where children can explore, create, and flourish. Socialization skills and independence are developed through a variety of daily skills and exercises. Our philosophy is that all children learn through hands-on experiences, exploration, and positive interactions with others. Every child is unique and will develop at their own pace. We foster an environment that will help all children succeed emotionally, physically, and socially. Every child has their own learning style and we give many options to explore and build on those abilities. (GR)

Registration, Payment & Additional Information Registration for the 2019/20 school year began March 1 for residents and March 8 for non-residents. Children must be age appropriate for program by September 1, 2019. There is a $50 fee per child due at the time of registration to secure your child’s place in the program. The fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. Take advantage of our convenient monthly EFT (Electronic Fund Transfer) payment plan where payments are automatically withdrawn from your credit or debit card on the first of the month (September through May). All yearly fees must be paid in full at time of registration. School calendar, supply list, and Parent Handbook will be emailed out to parents upon registration. Keppler Academy is located at 161 W. Meet the Teachers

Mrs. Lorena joined District 33 in 2014 and has being teaching elementary children for the past 5 years. Mrs. Garcia has run the Ballet Folkloric at Gary Elementary School as part of a committee.

Carolyn started dancing at Elmhurst Park District at the age of 3., turning into a teacher helper at age 12. Carolyn also danced at DuPage Dance Academy where she studied under Miss Anna Baker.

Hannah started dancing at the age of 2 at the Pand took dance until she 19 years old. She became a teaching assistant followed by a few more years of participation at Expressions Dance Studio.

She enjoys dancing and is proud and eager to teach children traditional Mexican folkloric dance. She looks forward to engaging all students to be part of this traditional dance and to learn more about the Hispanic Culture.

She is certified with Little People Workshop and Dance Masters as well as a certified children’s yoga instructor.

Her passion for dance and love for teaching children keeps her motivated as one of the best instructors in the field.

Hannah started at the West Chicago Park District in 2013 as a dance assistant and later became an instructor herself. Hannah loves to teach kids and encourage them to try things they never thought they could do throughout each class.

Generally accepted all over the world as one of the most artistic forms of dance entertainment cherished by people of all ages. Ballet is theatrical entertainment in which dancers, usually accompanied by music, tell a story or express a mood through their movements. The technique of ballet is elaborate and requires many years of training.

Is rhythmic and fun! Tap Dance strengthens students’ abilities to count and dance in time with music and increases the speed of their foot work. Tap is also a great way to improve coordination in young dancers.

Hip Hop

Fun, quick-paced, and energetic, Hip Hop dance finds its roots in street dancing. Students learn to coordinate movements with music and are encouraged to express themselves as individuals. The boy’s only classes allow the boys to do a more physical type of choreography which includes tricks used in breakdancing.

A fun upbeat kind of dance that teaches the students overall coordination and rhythm with funky upbeat music. Jazz dancing is the most commonly used style of dance on television shows, movies, music video and commercials. It is fun and energetic.

A combination of Jazz and Ballet performed to the words of songs that tell a story. The dance becomes the story of the song and the dancers are telling the story through their movements. This is a great form of dance for the dancer that loves to be expressive when they dance.

Dancers learn upbeat choreography while dancing with poms as seen at many sporting events

NEW Folkloric Ballet Jr.

New instructor Lorena Garcia will lead dancers through routines that emphasize movement, ballet characteristics and the Mexican culture. This highly popular and choreographed dance is the perfect way to learn about part of our community’s culture. Drop off childcare is available as early as 6:30am, drop off and bussing to schools within District 33 is provided. (except for Currier). We want to provide an experience to your child with the flexibility of a working parent’s schedule. Discounted rates for children that are already in our before care program are available. Featuring a 25-acre lake for catch and release fishing, one playground, an asphalt trail, seven soccer fields, a sand volleyball court, one baseball/softball diamond, a picnic shelter, and native landscaping, the park is picture perfect for a Sunday afternoon.

On a sunny weekend you’ll find plenty of activity at Kress Creek Farms since it houses our 18 cage Disc Golf Course, Chicago Bears themed playground and trail system. Located along Joliet Street on the south side of the city, Kress Creek Farms has rolling hills, native landscaping, and a small pond for catch and release fishing.

The park contains the ever popular Turtle Splash Water Park, six baseball/softball diamonds, four picnic shelters, skate park, a two-acre dog park named Wiggly Field, Keppler Academy Preschool, several trails, and multiple playgrounds. Adjacent to Reed-Keppler Park is the Geneva Spur bike trail, an integral part of the Illinois Prairie Path system and the Dyer Nature area. Through the generosity of John and Joan Dyer and their appreciation of natural lands they have donated 25 acres of prairie and wetlands named after them in their honor. Reed-Keppler Park is the home to the ARC Center (Athletics, Recreation & Community) and ZONE250 a sports performance training facility.

Dyer Riverwood Farm Park This seven-acre site donated by John and Joan Dyer is bordered on the west side by the DuPage River. As part of an intergovernmental agreement between the West Chicago Park District and the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, the park now contains a bike trail that links to the Illinois Prairie Path System.

Don Earley Park Located on the south side of Washington Street in the City of West Chicago. In addition, ash trees have been replaced in the park though a $10,000 Urban Restoration grant. Easton Park contains a playground, a catch and release pond, trails and picnic areas and new pavilion. Formerly known as Easton Park, the park was renamed in honor of the first Park District Board Commissioner Donald Earley.

Hampton Hills & Prince Crossing Parks Located adjacent to Hampton Hills and Prince Crossing Trails subdivisions, these two parks make up one great neighborhood park. The Hampton Hills side which is accessible at 719 Hampton Course Drive features a catch and release pond, gazebo and path system. The Prince Crossing side which is accessible at 900 McCormick Lane features a playground and path system.

Kwasman Memorial Park This neighborhood park is located within the Forest Trails subdivision and has been renamed in honor of former Mayor Mike Kwasman. The park contains a playground and is adjacent to the Illinois Prairie Path and Great Western Trail intersects for easy access.

Meadow Wood Park Ideally situated in Meadow Wood subdivision along Klein Road, this sevenacre park features a playground and picnic shelter and is the host to many lacrosse games.

Pioneer Park This community park is located on the south side of the city. Pioneer Park features a pond, two pavilions, a playground, a soccer field and four baseball/softball fields. A more expansive grass area is being developed for soccer.

Prestonfield Park Significant features of this park located in the Prestonfield subdivision are a buffer woodland area, playground, and picnic shelter. The property is monitored by the Mighty Acorn, a school-aged children’s group who assists the Park District with conservation efforts while learning about nature.

Hawthorne Park Located adjacent to the City of West Chicago’s water treatment facility in the industrial park, this park features native plantings and a pond.
