Recap: At the PTA, Nechama Raizel’s mother tells Pessy Cooper that her daughter can really use a lot of positive attention, as she works full time and has a special needs son. Pessy assures her that she gives Nechama Raizel as much positive attention as she can. Pessy feels sympathy for Nechama Raizel and remembers how her own mother always had time for her. Immediately afterward, she finds a cheese Danish stuck into her bag, with a Post-it note telling her that it’s from her mother.
Meanwhile, as Mrs. Cooper goes shopping, she wonders if the Danish and note will backfire.
Casey comes back to the cell he shares with Mr. Kleinberg, in a rage because his friends didn’t cooperate with him. He tells Mr. Kleinberg to teach him some of the Mishnayos that Mr. Kleinberg is whispering.
But the moment evaporated as quickly as it had become.
“Nah, what do I need that stuff for,” Casey said, looking Mr. Kleinberg up and down.
Mr. Kleinberg, who had been trying to figure out how to respond, cringed under Casey’s scrutiny.
“If you learn all that stuff, how’d you do something so bad?” Casey asked, gesturing around the cell.
“I – I didn’t do anything!” Mr. Kleinberg burst out. “It was a frame-up.”
Casey snorted.
“I mean, there was no way I could have known!” Mr. Kleinberg continued protesting.
“You don’t get in the papers like that if you don’t do something really bad,” Casey said.
Mr. Kleinberg frantically tried to think of how to rebut that accusation, but no convincing line came to mind.
“It’s fake news,” he said.
“Tell that to the judge,” Casey guffawed.
Mr. Kleinberg opened his mouth, then closed it, defeated.
Casey was right. Who was going to believe him that he hadn’t meant to do anything wrong? “Innocent until proven guilty” only applied to criminals who hadn’t had their name smeared all over the place, so that there was a chance for them to prove their innocence. What were his chances of doing that?
Probably nonexistent, as long as the world believed he was responsible for the data privacy problems with Finance2.
Even if he got out on bail, which was what all his lawyers and his family were working so hard toward, what would it help? He would just land back in jail as soon as his case went to trial and the jury pronounced him a resounding “Guilty!”
Then he would be left to rot in a dank cell just like this one, for…
Who could say for how long?!
Sam Kleinberg sat down on his own bed, feeling weak in the knees.
“Anyhow, I don’t believe you either,” Casey said, obviously intent on egging him on once he saw that he was having an effect on Kleinberg. “Aren’t you Orthodox guys always in the news for stealing?”
Casey’s words had the effect of a physical blow on Mr. Kleinberg. He recoiled.
It wasn’t only his own reputation that had taken a beating. Every frum Yid now had some tarnish on his name.
How could he ever live with himself knowing that he was responsible for that, even if he hadn’t known the full scope of what he was dealing with when he installed the faulty software?
For the first time since his arrest, Mr. Kleinberg felt not just guilt, but real, powerful regret. He sagged against the hard concrete wall near him, feeling unfamiliar sensations that he didn’t remember ever feeling before in his life.
Anyone who had known Sam Kleinberg as the arrogant boss who had micromanaged his employees and used acerbic comments to deflate more than one ego, would not have recognized the hunched-over pitiable figure on that cement block.
His face twisted in anguish, Shmiel Kleinberg wondered if he actually did deserve the fate that he seemed to be destined for.
Like a video screen set in slow motion, he remembered years of interacting with other people as if they were his herd of animals to be prodded into place with a well-placed barb, or alternatively, a bribe.
He looked across the tiny cell at Casey, his hulking cellmate who had made his fortune selling dangerous substances to innocent people.
He definitely deserves to sit in jail, Mr. Kleinberg thought to himself. But what about me?
He hadn’t endangered anyone’s life. He hadn’t taken advantage of innocent people. He was just a sacrificial lamb who had been taken in by the convincing lure of easy money.
Surely he didn’t deserve the same type of fate as his criminal cellmate?
Aren’t you Orthodox guys always in the news for stealing? Casey’s accusation reverberated in his mind. As a frum Yid, his bar of conduct necessarily had to be much higher. Everyone in his workplace had known about Mr. Kleinberg’s standards. That there were many things he wouldn’t do because he was an Orthodox Jew. He’d always felt that people respected him for that.
But now, he had given the Orthodox label a muddy stain.
As the import of his realizations sunk in, he began to realize just how tenuous his situation was.
A slow panic began to overtake him.

Pessy looked at the Post-it note, and back at the cheese-cinnamon Danish.
It was her favorite pastry, from her favorite bakery, exactly the thing that her friends would have bought her if they weren’t too busy to keep up with her life these days. But how had her mother known just what to buy her?
Pessy slowly replaced the pastry in her bag, and took out her phone.
She had been just about to call her friends to
update them about the “major PTA event” but now she wondered.
Maybe she should call her mother instead.
If she was completely honest with herself, her mother was far more likely to care about how her first-ever PTA had gone than her friends. Lately, she and her friends operated in alternate universes, with her on the teaching planet and them on the seminary planet, orbiting along totally different paths.
But her mother, just as she’d always been around, was still always waiting for Pessy when Pessy arrived home, even though she mostly ignored her mother’s presence.
For the first time ever, Pessy wondered what that felt like for her mother.
The memory of her mother patiently listening to her eight-year-old self flashed in her mind again, and Pessy felt bad.
Who said it was only mothers who had to make time for their daughters? Maybe their daughters had to make time for their mothers too, even if her mother had her own fulfilling life.
Nechama Raizel is my oldest, Mrs. Schwartz had said, and Pessy had seen the pride mixed with guilt that had surfaced.
She, Pessy, was her mother’s oldest, properly her pride and joy. Didn’t her mother deserve the nachas of hearing about Pessy’s PTA.
Fingering her phone as these thoughts raced through her head, Pessy debated whether to call her mother on the spot or not. Her mother was usually out shopping on the avenue at this time. Maybe she wouldn’t call right away.
But then she thought of the plastic container nestled in her bag and changed her mind.
If her mother had taken the time to send Pessy her loving support so thoughtfully, she was surely waiting for a report as soon as Pessy’s PTA was over.
Pessy picked up her phone again and called her mother’s number.
True to her prediction, Mrs. Cooper picked up on the first ring.
“Hello Pessy!” she greeted her daughter, her voice rising at the end in an exclamation point.
“How was your PTA?!”
“Hi Mommy!” Pessy said. “It worked out so well, you can’t even imagine! All the mothers were so happy with me that even Mrs. Gordon came to give me the nice regards.”
“Wow, that’s wonderful Pessy!” her mother exclaimed, genuine excitement in her tone.
“And by the way, Ma, thanks so much for the Danish, it looks heaven!”
“I knew you probably didn’t get to eat anything before you left, right?” Mrs. Cooper teased
gently.
Pessy laughed. “Of course not. I’m actually starving. I even ate some of the refreshments here by PTA because I was so hungry.”
She paused, hesitating.
“Mommy, you’re probably out shopping now, right? Should I come meet you and then – we could have lunch together somewhere?” The words emerged awkwardly, and Pessy held her breath.
Out on the avenue, Mrs. Cooper’s breath caught in her throat.
“That’s such a great idea, Pessy!” she said. “It’ll be a celebration that your PTA worked out so well, right?”
“Yeah, exactly,” Pessy agreed.
Neither one mentioned how incongruous it would be for Pessy to celebrate a milestone with her mother, of all people.
Pessy hesitated again, then said, “And I have to tell you about this mother of my hardest student and what she said.”
“Can’t wait to hear,” Mrs. Cooper said. And she meant it.
As Pessy left the school building, heading to meet her mother in a café on the avenue, she had to admit that she was excited to tell her mother all the stories of her PTA. If anyone would really care about every detail, it was her mother.
In fact, she didn’t call any of her friends as she walked toward the café where she would meet her mother. For once, she would update her mother first.
She spotted her mother waiting at the entrance to the café as she turned the corner onto the block. Was she really doing this?
But she was. Her mother was already waving her in, and Pessy broke into a smile.
Maybe this could be fun!

Mrs. Tabak gathered up her stuff from her table at the PTA thoughtfully.
Mrs. Gordon, who had been making her rounds from teacher to teacher, headed in her direction.
“How was it?” she asked, her expression more serious than it had been as she spoke to the other teachers.
"Baruch Hashem, it went well,” Mrs. Tabak said.
Mrs. Gordon waited to hear the rest.
“Mrs. Kleinberg was surprised to hear it when I offered that Bruchi might
appreciate some extra support during this difficult time,” Mrs. Tabak said. “I figured it worked out well that there was PTA now so we could discuss something to do for Bruchi. But no, she assured me that Bruchi is handling things just fine, and that she’s sure Bruchi doesn’t want any outside help.”
Mrs. Gordon emitted a tiny sigh.
“I might have figured that that would be her reaction,” Mrs. Gordon said. “The family would be embarrassed to allow her to receive outside help. But I’m still happy you made the offer. If they truly need it, they’ll know we’re there for them.”
Mrs. Tabak nodded. “I told Mrs. Kleinberg that I know it’s a difficult challenge for a girl at Bruchi’s stage, but that I think with the right help, Bruchi can grow from it. You know, what doesn’t break you makes you stronger, etc.”
“Right, but I didn’t think it’s something her mother would agree to.”
“What can we do?” Mrs. Tabak shrugged, turning back to the papers she’d been arranging in a pile.
Mrs. Gordon nodded thoughtfully. Was there anything they could do for Bruchi?
And even more importantly…did she have the time for it when she was in the process of deciding whether or not to leave her job?
The thoughts she had been determinedly pushing to the side rose to the fore. With the PTA wrapped up, it was time to focus on the job offer she’d been considering. In just a few months, the school year would be over. If she was planning to resign, now was the time she needed to do it.
Somehow, the thought made her stomach so queasy that she stuffed it away once again.
She wouldn’t be able to leave it there at the back of her mind for too long, though.
Devorah had called last night again, to say that her boss really wanted to know if Mrs. Gordon was taking the job.
“I’ll be perfectly honest with you because you’re my sister-in-law, so I can tell you that he doesn’t have any other options as of now,” Devorah said. “But if you don’t take it, he’d love to find someone who can start already this year, instead of waiting for the new school year. So yeah, sorry to pressure you, but when do you think you’ll know by?” • TO BE CONTINUED

RECAP OF CHAPTER 24: Zuska Neiman, one of Naomi’s students, becomes very sick. She needs antibiotics desperately, and Naomi’s grandmother asks her to fight for Zuska to get it.
Dena tells Bentzy that it’s important to write on their spices containers that the spices must be checked for bugs.
A handwritten question in the margins of the Nugot Heyet (Fortified Place), the local monthly journal that was sent to the sick people in the infirmary:
Aryeh, please answer me on the other side of the page: Would you give 60 marks (our wedding gift from Wangel) to save one of my students?
Answer on the opposite margin of the page: What’s the question.
Naomi’s feet were hurting from running around so much, and something inside her was completely drained from all the deliberations: the feeling of being torn, the actual decision, and coming to terms with it. But none of this was reflected in her eyes when she arrived at the office, out of breath, and leveled her gaze at Elky forty minutes before the end of the workday.
“Our decision is yes,” she told her simply.
“That’s what you decided? Excellent.” Elky blinked rapidly and began to rummage in her drawer. “Just sign here that you got all of your monthly wages.” She took out the regular form. “It also wouldn’t hurt to write a few words of thanks to Wangel for the wedding gift… Here it is, because you probably don’t want to lie.”
She pulled out an envelope and handed it to Naomi.
The office was quiet. Naomi took a deep breath and held the envelope that had been handed to her. She’d never held such a large salary at one time, and even though she knew that it wasn’t actually hers anymore, there was something heady about the feeling. She put the envelope back on the office desk and averted her gaze from it. “Fine. I got it. I’ll sign.” She bent over the monthly form. “And what about the medicine for Zuska? Can you send it to the infirmary now?”
“Eva will come and I’ll speak to her,” Elky said, her eyes following Naomi’s right hand as she signed “Naomi Klein.” The letters were a bit shaky.
“Great. When will she be coming?”
“In a few minutes.” Elky put the form in its place. “You don’t think I’m deceiving you, do you? If it won’t work, I’ll give you back all your vouchers.” She grasped the envelope in one hand, peeked inside, and a small, evasive smile crossed her face for a second before it disappeared. It wasn’t the smile of a liar, and that wasn’t what Naomi was worried about. It was the gleam in Elky’s eye that she didn’t like.
“Elky,” she said, pointing to the envelope, “I’m sorry for asking but…well, you understand that I’m taking an interest because I’m really investing into this what is for me a huge sum.”
“You can ask me whatever you want, sure.” Elky was magnanimous.
“So, my question is: Is Eva going to get all of that?”
Elky was quiet. She turned her back to Naomi as she stretched to put the envelope on the highest shelf above the door. “What did you ask?” It took time for her to turn back around.
“Is Eva Sherer getting all of this?”
“Almost all of it,” Elky said after a moment that stretched a hairsbreadth too long. “I also get a little bit, you understand. After all, when I do you a favor with this medicine, and I get involved, I’m mixing other considerations into my work…How should I put it? Not professional considerations at all. And that poses a certain risk to my position, as well as some discomfort in my interactions with Eva and her father.”
“Oh,” Naomi said. Only after a pause did she say, “But actually, these are very professional considerations. My grandmother quoted Dr. Annie Katzburg as saying that Zuska is the patient who most urgently needs the antibiotics.”
“There are lots of urgencies.” Elky smiled. She actually smiled! “And the choice between them isn’t simple, and there are other considerations besides medical ones.”
“Not professional considerations.”
“A different kind of professional. And when I start getting involved in those…well, it’s a risk I’m taking, and that is why whatever I get is coming to me.”
Naomi nodded silently.
“It would be wise for you to go now, before Eva gets back. I won’t be able to speak when you are here.”
“When should I come back?”
“In an hour. Not before.”
“Fine.” Naomi slowly and silently left the Sherer office without giving the thick envelope a second glance, after she’d wholeheartedly handed it over, without any professional considerations. Unless, someone cynical might say, as a teacher she had to make sure that she would have students.
Yet if Elky would have presented her with the dilemma again, she had no doubt that she would have answered exactly the same thing.
Naomi rested her head on the desk—something she didn’t let her little students do—and tried to doze. She wasn’t quite successful, but at least the minutes passed in a sort of haze; after a period of time whose length she could not estimate, she stood up and went out again to the office building. She didn’t think a full hour had passed yet, but she just could not wait any longer.
On the way, she passed the infirmary and tapped lightly on the door. Dr. Katzburg opened it. “I think your husband will be released the day after tomorrow,” she said right away when she saw who the visitor was. “You can prepare the house. It’s better for him to finish recovering there, not here.”
“Thank you, thank you!” Naomi replied. “And how is Zuska?”
“In serious condition,” the doctor said tersely.
She wasn’t asking how they would manage, because she’d long learned that there was no point in asking such questions.
The preschool was already dark and empty; she had parted from the children nearly an hour earlier, and there was nothing waiting for her there. But there wasn’t anything for her at home either. She walked into the dark classroom and shuffled through the empty classroom; she took a seat in the teacher’s chair and stared into space. Her entire salary for this month—gone. And Aryeh wouldn’t be getting anything for these days either. She wasn’t asking how they would manage, because she’d long learned that there was no point in asking such questions. She also knew that her mother and Aunt Chani wouldn’t let them starve, but still…
Naomi swallowed a sigh of relief. At least, baruch Hashem, there was still someone to make the effort for. “And if she gets antibiotics?”
“If,” the doctor said, her forehead lined with bitterness and doubt. “We’ll talk then.”
Naomi went back out to the path and climbed the hill between the trees. From far, she could see the right side window of the office. There was a shadow there, nearly motionless, but when Naomi drew closer, it moved a bit and motioned something with a hand. Elky.
Naomi turned to the window instead of the door to the building. She saw that Elky was motioning for her to come closer, as she lay a finger on her lips. Naomi silently approached, and something small landed at her feet. She bent down and picked it up. It was a small box.
And printed on it in large black letters was the word “Amoxicillin.” ***
Dena looked at Duvi. “I’m also asking ‘why’. Why are you not sleeping?”
“Because I’m not tired.”
“Still, it’s time to go to sleep,” his mother said firmly.
“Hey, someone is at the door,” the boy said, turning his head in that direction. At first Dena thought it was another stalling tactic so he wouldn’t have to go to sleep, but a second later she realized he was right. Someone was knocking.
She heard Bentzy walk to the front door. Good; she had no interest in seeing who it was. She just hoped it was not the gentile neighbor from downstairs, coming to yell about how dare they run the water in the bathtub after eight in the evening, and that it made too much noise for her.
At that moment, Dena felt that even if it was someone bringing them a package from her family in Israel, together with her parents’ and sisters’ warm and loving regards, she would not be able to accept it. Not when she was like this, tearing up from her cold—or for other reasons—and with all the car headlights in the darkness reminding her of Devorah, the wife of Lapidos.
Of course she wouldn’t dare suggest to Bentzy to prepare wicks for the batei medrash in all of Austria, and she wouldn’t send him to donate the payment for the electric bills. His knowledge of Tanach was rather broad, thanks to his father, and he’d likely pick up where she’d gotten the inspiration for these ideas, and he’d be insulted.
But that didn’t mean that what she needed right now was to get regards from her sisters in Israel.
Duvi tugged at her sleeve. “I think Abba has a guest.”
Dena left the porch railing and came into the house. She cocked an ear toward the dining room—yes, someone was speaking to Bentzy in Yiddish, with a heavy Russian accent. The accent was so heavy that she couldn’t make out a single word the person was saying. She managed just fine with her own Yiddish, but with that accent she didn’t stand a chance.
“He works in Zeidy’s factory, and he says that they want recess,” Duvi suddenly said. He rubbed his eyes. “Old people also have recess, like we have in cheder? Ha ha ha!”
“It’s not nice to listen to adult conversations, and it’s not nice to call someone ‘old’!” Dena recoiled at the idea that their guest might have heard his words.
“So what do you say about someone who is old?”
“You say nothing. Maybe offer him a cup of tea.” Dena remembered her role as the hostess just as she heard the chairs moving, indicating that the guest and the host were sitting down for a slightly longer conversation.
“I’ll offer it to him!” Duvi exclaimed, and he made a beeline for the dining room.
“Abba, Ima said I should offer the guest a cup of tea,” he said in his charming way. Dena heard the guest murmur, “A zisse yingele!” and then Dovi’s, “Ouch!”—a sure sign that he’d gotten a pinch on the cheek. She walked to the edge of the big dining room and took a peek at the visitor. The man was wearing a slightly smashed gray hat on his head, and looked like a classic immigrant from the Soviet Union, similar to those who had come to Israel a few years earlier, after the Iron Curtain had fallen. Many of these Russian Jews had traveled to Eretz Yisrael via Vienna, but some had stayed here, either permanently or temporarily.
Only now did she allow herself to think about what Duvi had just said, after he’d apparently picked up on the guest’s Yiddish. Recess? What did that mean?
What was this? Was her father-in-law’s packaging facility a French factory during the Industrial Revolution, when people were made to work without basic conditions? How was it that a person who looked to be about sixty had to come to his superior’s house to ask for a break during the employees’ work shifts?
Summer.
Long afternoons of sitting under the shade of trees, licking sticky ice-pops and feeling the sun's caress on your back.
Summer -
Ahhh! After being cooped up all winter, it’s time to unwind in the great outdoors.
It’s a time for fun. Making laps in the pool, schmoozing on the grass ‘til the wee hours of the night and going for brisk sprints on those quiet country roads.
And even longer Shabbos afternoons, hours after hours stretching magically, even after a long suedah, a quick nap, and a walk around the block.
Sometimes, somewhere in these golden hours of sunlight, the time slowly morphs from long hours of enjoyment into hours that feel a little too long. It can be difficult to tap into the time and feel the connection and bliss of Shabbos.
How can we use this time that symbolizes fun, and make it a time of growth and introspection as well?

Pasta salad has been a classic for years. This twist on your typical pasta salad really takes it up a notch. The smokiness of the beef fry and freshness of the crisp cucumbers make for a great pair.
Ingredients:
1 box bowtie pasta, cooked according to package instructions
2 mini cucumbers, halved and sliced
1/2 red onion, finely diced
2 packages beef fry
Dressing Ingredients:
1 Tbsp sugar
4 Tbsp mayonnaise
1 Tbsp lemon juice
3 Tbsp beef fry fat
1 Tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
1/2 tsp garlic powder
Salt, to taste
Directions:
1. In a large frying pan, over medium heat, add beef fry slices. Fry until crispy and golden. Remove from pan and let cool. Once cooled, chop up. Keep the drippings for the dressing.
2. In a large bowl, combine all dressing ingredients. Mix with a spoon.
3. Add cooked pasta, cucumbers, diced onions and chopped beef fry to the dressing bowl. Mix well to combine.

These crispy potato wedges and sweet, soft onions are the perfect combination and so full of flavor. This a great side dish to throw into the oven when you’re BBQing outside and pairs nicely with all your favorite grilled foods.
Ingredients:
10 small-medium Yukon gold potatoes, wedged
2 onions, wedged
1/2 cup olive oil
2 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp onion powder
2 tsp paprika
3 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp chili powder (or more to taste)
Salt and pepper to taste
Honey, for drizzling
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 415°.
2. Pour oil evenly over a metal sheet pan. Add wedged potatoes, onions and spices to the pan. Using gloved hands, mix well, coating everything.
3. Spread in a single layer and drizzle generously with honey.
4. Bake for 40-45 minutes, mixing once halfway.

“In my previous pregnancies, I suffered from tooth pain. My doctor suggested Maxi Cal and the pain disappeared.”
QI am an 18-year-old girl who is quite overweight. I suffer terribly from psoriasis. It was very interesting to note that when I was losing weight, my psoriasis symptoms were drastically reduced and my patches of red blotchy skin faded. Is there a connection between weight loss and skin improvements?
APsoriasis is a chronic autoimmune condition that primarily affects the skin, causing it to develop into thick, red patches covered with silvery scales. It’s a complex disease influenced by genetic, environmental, and immunological factors. Psoriasis is a chronic skin disorder characterized by the rapid overproduction of skin cells. In a healthy individual, skin cells grow and shed approximately every 28-30 days. However, in someone with psoriasis, this process speeds up, causing new skin cells to form in just 3-4 days. These cells accumulate on the surface of the skin, forming thick, scaly patches.
The exact cause of psoriasis isn’t fully understood, but it involves a combination of genetic and environmental factors.
Here are the primary contributors:
Genetics: A family history of psoriasis increases the likelihood of developing the condition.
Immune System: Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease, meaning the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy skin cells, accelerating their production.
Environmental Triggers: Stress, infections (such as strep throat), skin injuries, smoking, and certain medications can trigger or exacerbate psoriasis.
Obesity: Research has shown that the more you weigh, the more severe your symptoms are likely to be.
While there is no cure for psoriasis, some evidence suggests that dietary changes and managing internal inflammation can help alleviate symptoms. Here’s how nutrition may
play a role:
Anti-Inflammatory Diet: Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids (like fatty fish), antioxidants (fruits and vegetables), and whole grains can help reduce inflammation.
Weight Management: Maintaining a healthy weight is important if you have psoriasis. Research shows that carrying extra pounds makes psoriasis symptoms worse. The connection isn’t entirely clear. But what experts do know is that extra fat cells release inflammatory chemicals. Since psoriasis is an inflammatory disease, those chemicals may contribute to your psoriasis symptoms.
Avoiding Triggers: Identifying and avoiding foods that trigger flare-ups, such as alcohol and processed foods, can help manage symptoms.
Nightshade vegetables, including tomatoes, potatoes, eggplants, and peppers, contain solanine, a compound that some believe can trigger inflammation in sensitive individuals. While scientific evidence is limited, some people with psoriasis report improvement in symptoms after eliminating nightshades from their diet. If you suspect nightshades might be affecting your condition, consider an elimination diet under the guidance of a healthcare professional.
While lifestyle and dietary changes can help manage psoriasis, medical treatments are often necessary, especially for moderate to severe cases. When women with psoriasis worked along with me for weight loss support, most of their psoriasis symptoms and pain lessened tremendously. I am certain that clear skin comes from within, however, work closely with your doctor or dermatologist to help you get your desired results. Good luck!

It is not an exaggeration to say that the halachic sheilos that come up in a hospital setting number in the thousands. And the sheilos are as varied as they are numerous.
There are the many Shabbos concerns: how to call a nurse on Shabbos, adjust an electric bed, walk through automatic doors, use elevators and lights, etc. There are the hilchos tefillah considerations: when and how one may daven in a hospital room. There are the complicated halachos of a yoledes ; issues of bishul akum ; end-of-life situations; and so many other areas of halachah that are affected, for both patients and visitors in the hospital.
This sefer addresses all of these halachos, offering clarity and practical suggestions for those who find themselves in a medical situation.

We can be like Yehoshua & Kalev (the 2 spies who came back with positive reports), believing that Hashem gives us the ability to overcome challenges that come our way.
The eyes of one of the spies widen as he sees a tall shadow cast over their entire group. He looks up to see a giant, a person larger than he has ever seen. As the spies traverse the land, they are met with more sights of gigantic proportions, including the fruits. All 12 of the spies saw the same facts: huge giants, enormous fruit, and fortified walls. 10 of them saw this and believed it would therefore be impossible to conquer the land, while the remaining 2 – Yehoshua & Kalev – saw the very same situation with all of the challenges it seemed to pose, but believed it was possible to overcome. Their belief that Hashem gives us the power to overcome challenges is what eventually brought them success (though this did not happen till years later when the Jewish people entered the land).
What is one way you can remain optimistic when facing a challenge?
Hashem sends us challenges in our lives sometimes. For example, one person might find it difficult to learn to read, or another person could find it difficult to find friends who will include him or her in their group. One way to view the challenge is to feel defeated, to feel that you will never be able to overcome it because it is too difficult. Alternatively, you could choose to look at it like Yehoshua and Kalev would view it: recognize that although it may be hard, if Hashem is putting this challenge in front of you, believe that He is giving you the tools you need to overcome it. An optimistic attitude is key to success. It is all about what you believe is possible.
