SUNDAY 20TH APRIL 2025
Official race programme £3.00
Welcome to Plumpton and from all the team we wish you a very Happy Easter.
Today is one of our Premier Racedays, part of the sport’s “Premierisation” initiative aimed at elevating the quality, prestige, and overall raceday experience. These special fixtures showcase top-class horses, enhanced prize money, and a truly memorable atmosphere—so you’re in for a real treat! This year’s BetGoodwin Easter Sunday Raceday boasts a prize fund of £206,000, headlined by the £75,000 BetGoodwin Sussex Champion Hurdle.
Plumpton Racecourse is poised to play a crucial role in the outcome of the 2025 Trainers’ Championship, with Willie Mullins and Dan Skelton locked in a fierce battle for the title. The BetGoodwin Easter Festival features an impressive £450,000 in prize money across two days, which could have a significant influence on the final standings. With the championship race so tightly contested, the results at Plumpton may prove decisive in crowning this year’s British jumps trainers’ champion.
We’ve got a fantastic 7-race card today with 58 runners declared. The highlight is the BetGoodwin Sussex Champion Hurdle, where last year we saw Our Champ, trained by Chris Gordon and ridden by Rex Dingle, storm to victory by an impressive 11 lengths over Mr Freedom and Tapley. This year’s renewal looks highly competitive, with 11 runners lining up—including four from Willie Mullins and two from Dan Skelton. The field also features 14-time Champion Trainer Paul Nicholls, who has won this race three times (2015, 2017, and 2021), Chris Gordon, also a three-time winner, including last year, Gary Moore, who landed the race in 2023 with Teddy Blue, and Robert Walford, adding further depth to a stellar line-up.
I would like to thank our Partners; BetGoodwin & Southern Cranes and Access Ltd for their tremendous support throughout the 2024/25 Season, along with today’s sponsors, Extech, Mayo Wynne Baxter, Peter Savill, BetGoodwin and Strong Flavours.
It’s a busy day here at Plumpton, with both enclosures open and a full schedule of entertainment. All our Family Entertainment is located in the Centre Course, and is accessible to all ticket holders, regardless of enclosure. You’ll find maps located around the racecourse—so be sure to take a look! With seven fantastic races and plenty of fun for all ages, it’s set to be an exciting day for the whole family.
Looking ahead, we’re excited for the final day of our Easter Festival on Monday, 21st April, with advance tickets still available. Beyond that, our Season Finale takes place on Saturday, 11th May—a great way to close out the racing season in style. General admission starts from £14, while hospitality packages begin at £95. Tickets and enquiries can be made at www.plumptonracecourse.co.uk.

Having found only an unexposed rival too strong on her handicap bow at Ffos Las a fortnight ago, JASMINE D’AIRY holds leading claims reverting to maiden company. Harry Derham’s mare is top rated and a first triumph over hurdles could beckon. The biggest threat may emerge from Rules/stable debutant She Is For Me Boys, who was a winner of her sole point-to-point in Ireland. Lady Kluck is the pick of the remainder.
SELECTION: Jasmine D’airy
Danger: She Is For Me Boys
BOB BOB RICARD wasn’t beaten far when finishing fourth in a class 2 event at Newbury 29 days ago. The seven-year-old makes plenty of appeal on his return to class 4 company and he shades the vote over C&D winner Alien Storm. Charlie Longsdon’s inmate has proved triumphant on both outings over fences at this track and another good account is forecast. Chase/ handicap debutant Le Fauve is also worth a second look.
SELECTION: Bob Bob Ricard
Danger: Alien Storm

Having regained the winning thread at Chepstow last month, My Friend Sean warrants respect in his follow-up bid. However, an 8lb higher mark demands another career best from Tom Lacey’s charge and UGO BINGO is more appealing. The six-year-old posted a solid second on his stable bow at Fontwell 23 days ago and a 3lb nudge up in the ratings looks workable. The downgraded Barrabool could also have a say.
SELECTION: Ugo Bingo
Danger: My Friend Sean
Trainers Gary & Josh Moore are based locally and have a good record at Plumpton, suggesting bottom-weight HAVAILA, the only C&D winner in the field, has every chance. Beaten less than three lengths at Newbury last month in a similar race, he could get back to winning ways. Dan Skelton has two in here with Major Fortune the mount of Harry Skelton, while Hugos New Horse is worth another chance, despite pulling up at Windsor last time out.
SELECTION: Havaila
Danger: Major Fortune
Four Willie Mullins runners here makes life interesting with SIR GERHARD the pick off a mark of 147 in first-time cheekpieces. Five wins over hurdles in the past include the Ballymore at the Cheltenham Festival in 2022, though he is now a veteran at the age of 10. She’s A Saint is interesting with her recent Aintree victory her second start in two years and she may have more to offer, though Knickerbockerglory might be the pick of Harry Skelton.
SELECTION: Sir Gerhard
6
Danger: She’s A Saint
SIAM PARK has made an excellent start to his chasing career and stepping up in trip seemed to bring about further improvement when scoring comfortably from the front at Stratford last month. A 6lb rise for that success could prove lenient, and it may be that Taxus Baccata gives him the most to think about, having won over C&D on her penultimate start before a respectable second at Fakenham next time. Fontwell scorer Joe Cotton is another to note, as well as Shakeyatailfeather, who would be turning out quickly under a 7lb penalty after scoring at Cheltenham on Thursday.
SELECTION: Siam Park
Danger: Taxus Baccata
A valuable contest in terms of the UK’s trainer’s title, Willie Mullins sends over MR ESCOBAR, who makes his handicap debut over hurdles, having scored comfortably over shorter at Sedgefield in November. Running off a mark of 126 looks manageable for the seven-year-old, and he may have too much for Busy Being Busy, who arrives on a hat-trick after a pair of easy victories at Fakenham. A stablemate of the selection, King Alexander is expected to have a say on the drop in grade, along with the consistent Torrent.
SELECTION: Mr Escobar
Danger: Busy Being Busy

Willie Mullins saddles 4 as he bids to land a significant blow in the trainers’ title race. ABSURDE made an encouraging return to action in the County Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and is narrowly preferred to stablemate Tounsivator, who failed to stay 2 1/2m in the Martin Pipe at Cheltenham and is interesting back at 2m having been eased another 2lb. Spirit d’Aunou wasn’t far behind the selection in the County and also makes the shortlist along with Robert Walford’s Aurigny Mill.

The welfare of the sports equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of licensed trainers. The standards demanded by the BHA far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The BHA similarly licenses racecourses setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course.
At every race meeting at Plumpton there are three specially qualified Equine Vets appointed to look after the welfare of all the horses with two vets following the horses as they race and the third being based in the stable yard.
In the interests of safety, access to the parade ring is strictly limited to Owners and Trainers with runners in the race, BHA and Racecourse Officials who are on duty at the meeting and Emergency Service Personnel. Those people holding badges or accreditation that allow access to the parade ring are asked to refrain from entering the parade ring unless absolutely necessary.
