Page 1

WELCOME TO

On behalf of everyone at Haydock Park, I am delighted to welcome you to today’s fixture.

As our Flat season draws towards a close, I’d like to remind you that our final Flat fixture takes place on Friday 17th October, before the curtain rises on an exciting Jumps campaign. The season will begin in style with the prestigious Betfair Chase on Saturday 22nd November, a date already firmly marked on the racing calendar. Looking ahead, tickets, hospitality packages and memberships for the 2026 season will be on sale very soon, and we look forward to sharing another year of racing excellence with you.

We are especially grateful to today’s sponsors – Ambassador Cruise Line, Hallgarten and Novum Wines, Oddschecker, J&P Civil Engineering, and the European Breeders Fund – for their generous support. I would like to wish all our sponsors a very memorable day. In recent weeks, racing has also united behind the Axe The Racing Tax campaign, which continues to raise awareness of the impact that proposed betting tax increases could have on our sport. Haydock Park is proud to play its part in supporting this important initiative, ensuring that the voices of racegoers, participants and stakeholders are heard in safeguarding the future of British racing I wish you an enjoyable afternoon of racing and the very best of luck.

DON’T FORGET OUR NEXT MEETING

A very warm welcome to all Annual Members on our last Saturday of the flat season for a competitive card at Haydock Park.

Our last meeting was crammed with quality, and how great it was to see Big Mojo win the Betfair Sprint Cup. Mick Appleby, emotional to win the great race, again showed his knack at getting the best out of horses

The feature race today is the Ambassador Cruise Lines Handicap Vintage Clarets, last year’s Catterick Dash winner, looks to have a great chance and it would be lovely to see the Fahey yard win on the week of Wootton Bassett’s unfortunate passing.

Next Saturday sees Haydock Park’s annual visit on a reciprocal to Ascot on a card high in quality There are two Group 3 races, two Listed races and a £180,000 Handicap to whet your appetite. Admission would cost £41, but Haydock Members will have free access for this day. I do hope you can attend this unique opportunity

Work is very much underway for our 2026 Annual Badgeholder package. Details will be announced in the coming weeks, but your patronage as Annual Badgeholders is truly appreciated. You are the beating heart of the racecourse. I hope you have an enjoyable and successful days racing

GRANTWOOD is downto a mark inthe 70s forthe firsttime since scoring overC&D last summer and is given a chance to build on quite a promising run at Southwell last time. Trilby is another who knows where the winning post is here and hinted last time that he might be back in form. Woven is sure to go well if in the same form as at Ayr last week, while Realign retains unexposed potential back from a short break.

PLAY SMARTER

Not a particularly strong renewal and Charlie Appleby has an excellent chance of winning this race for the second successive year with WISE APPROACH, who sets a clear standard on the back of his very good third in the Prix Morny at Deauville. Coppull failed to give his running behind the selection that day but still rates the main threat on previous form. Aidan O’Brien has won this a record 7 times and Kansas looks the pick of his 3 runners.

Richard Hannon’s CHRISTIAN DAVID made light of an absence when scoring at Newbury on his recent return and a 3lb rise in the weights doesn’t look sufficient to prevent him from following up Karl Burke’s handicap debutant First Ambition looks open to progress and heads the list of dangers, although Midnight Gun is weighted to go well if ready to roll after a six-month absence. Fondo Blanco and El Matador complete the shortlist.

Probable S.P’s: 4-5 Nada Two (GB), 9-2 Tabasko (GB), 11-2 Morven (IRE), 6-1 Rossa Raheen (GB)

None of the quartet can be ruled out but NADA TWO looked a winner in waiting when runner-up at Thirsk on her debut and can start to repay her costly price tag here. Tabasko also made a promising start when fifth at Ascot recently and could emerge as the main danger to Karl Burke’s Night OfThunder filly ahead of Rossa Raheen and Morven.

PLAY SMARTER

This is wide open but the vote goes to LAND OF LIBERTY who posted an excellent second at Newbury on her first venture into nurseries and can now go one better with that form having been well advertised since. Lyrical Song heads the list of dangers on the back of his own very good runner-up finish at Musselburgh, while Jungle Knight, Real Man and Wren Runner are all well in the mix too.

VETS SCREEN POLICY

We have agreed with our vets that the screen should be erected, whenever a horse requires veterinary treatment on the course. This does not reflect the severity of an injury, but does help to provide a calm environment, in which the vet is better able to treat the horse.

Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse.

If you have concerns about the integrity of British racing or the wellbeing of the sport’s participants, human or equine, please contact RaceWISE Anonymous reporting.

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards In addition Haydock Park Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital
