Spangled Sands has occupied the runner-up berth on both of his career starts and holds an obvious chance, but it is WHITE SAND BEACH that shades preference Second to a useful type at Punchestown on debut recently, improvement looks likely and trainer Aidan O’Brien, who has won four of the previous five renewals, looks to have found her a suitable opportunity. Suspicious Mindz has been gelded since his fifth at Roscommon and is another bear in mind.

The Weld Park Stakes has been generously sponsored by Dermot Weld since 1983. The race is run in memory of his parents, Charlie and Marguerite. Initially run at the Phoenix Park, it was transferred to the Curragh in 1991.

The race has a rich history of being won by future Classic and Group One winners and producers. Previous winners include; Ballet De France, Trusted Partner, Isle Of Glass, Ridgewood Pearl, Last Second, Token Gesture, Alborada, Imagine, Chintz, Qualify and Hermosa.

Aidan O’Brien’s juveniles often improve markedly from run to run and, despite showing plenty of greenness in three career outings, AMELIA EARHART almost landed a strong maiden at Doncaster recently She will need to step up on that form, but looks capable of doing so and it may be Kensington Lane who gives her most to think about following an impressive success at Gowran. Stepping back up in trip is likely to suit Alibah after a creditable third in Listed company at Fairyhouse, while Pivotal Attack drops in grade after contesting the Moyglare

HORSEWELFARE-APRIORITY

At every race meeting there are specially qualiﬁed equine veterinary surgeons on duty to look after the wellbeing of all the horses racing. There is a vet in attendance at the start of each race who, follows the horses throughout the race and is quickly on hand if an injury occurs.

It is normal procedure to erect screens around any horse receiving veterinary treatment.

This allows the veterinary surgeon some privacy to fully assess the horses’ injuries and race goers should not assume the worst if screens are erected around an injured horse.

The Blue Cross ambulance is always present to transport the horse back to the stable yard for further treatment if necessary.

A second veterinary surgeon is in attendance in the stable yard to assess and treat any horses requiring such attention post race. The horses’ welfare is always our priority.
