How To Use:

Newbury Racecourse is delighted to offer all racegoers free use of our Wi-Fi service.

A very warm welcome to our flagship raceday – the Coral Gold Cup.
We extend our sincere thanks to Coral for their continued support of this historic meeting and are delighted to welcome 300 members of their Racing Club to the Racecourse this weekend.
We’re thrilled to have Their Royal Highnesses, The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh with us today for an official Royal visit; the Duchess - like Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother had done in the past - will present the trophy for today’s feature race and we wish the Royal party an enjoyable day.

Today’s raceday marks Barry Mason’s last at the Racecourse before he retires after a staggeringly impressive 47 years of continuous service in our Groundstaff team, wishing you the happiest of retirements, Barry
The feature race of the day, of course, is the Coral Gold Cup, which has attracted a full field of runners for only the third time in 33 years A strong Irish contingent accounts for 10 of the 24 runners, and although they have secured just one victory in this race so far this century, champion trainer Willie Mullins will be hoping to add a second success following Total Recall’s triumph in 2017.
There’s plenty to enjoy off the track today, including live music, complimentary chair-o-plane rides, an RoR Parade, and the Coral Rewards Human Grabber. After racing, you can party in the Denman Marquee with a live DJ, followed by international party band 29 Fingers, to round out the weekend in style.
If you’re planning to join us for Coral Challow Hurdle Day on Monday 29th December, don’t miss the Early Bird ticket discount, which ends at 11:59pm on Monday 1st December It promises to be our biggest year yet for family fun, with Under 18s going free and a brand-new afterparty to look forward to We’re excited to confirm that our Party in the Paddock music raceday series will return in 2026 with four instalments over two huge weekends in July and August Our first acts will be announced at 10am on Tuesday 2nd December, so make sure you register your interest on page 4 to be among the first to hear and guarantee access to the lowest-priced tickets and passes.
Beyond the racing, Newbury is the perfect place for a festive celebration. Our Christmas party nights are proving popular, with new dates added due to demand. If you’re looking for a unique venue for your seasonal celebrations, you might be in luck – see page 64 for more details.
Finally, thank you to all our racegoers for joining us today. We hope you have a fantastic afternoon and look forward to welcoming you for the BetVictor Christmas Raceday on Wednesday 17th December

There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do:
1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number.
2. Choose your bet –‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types:
• ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.

• ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet.
• What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places.
• The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure!
3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet.
4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”.
5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings!
6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard.

Race Summary: KINGSTON QUEEN progressed notably well in bumpers and looked an equally bright prospect over hurdles when seeing off a subsequent winner in comfortable fashion at Chepstow earlier in the month, so she earns the narrow vote over Uttoxeter scorer La Conquiere, who was value for extra having conceded first run to her main market rival. Clondaw Park and Charisma Cat are two others to note in a good renewal of this listed mares’ novice.

Niall sadly passed away earlier this year at the age of 55 in his adopted home of Bermuda, following a long illness which he faced with his customary courage and good humour.
His memorial Mass was held in Dublin on Grand National Saturday, 5th April 2025. Today, many trainers, jockeys, stable staff, and co-owners who were unable to attend the Mass will be remembering and celebrating his life here at his favourite racecourse, on one of his favourite racedays.
Over the past 25+ years, Niall enjoyed success with many good horses, principally with Alan King, but also with Emma Lavelle, D.J. Jeffries, and Sonny Carey in Ireland. He held shares in numerous horses and celebrated over 100 winners, including The Hairy Lemon, Trueshan, Harambe, Primitivo, Masaccio, and The Glancing Queen.
We are delighted that his sisters are here with us today. As the priest at his Mass aptly said, “Niall may have only had 55 years on earth, but he lived 110 years in that time - and probably downed 220 years’ worth of Guinness”

Probable S.P’s: 13-8 Constitution Hill (GB), The New Lion (GB), 7-2 Anzadam (FR), 28-1 Golden Ace (GB), 100-1 Nemean Lion (GER) PLAY SMARTER
THE NEW LION looks speedy enough to cope with a drop to 2m and is selected to remain unbeaten. Constitution Hill would obviously be a huge threat if still capable of anywhere near approaching his best form but there have to be doubts after the way last season ended and it could be that the main threat comes from the exciting Anzadam.

Race Summary: No shortage of quality and potential here and INDEMNITY is the one who appeals most He caught the eye with the way he travelled through the race at Ascot before succumbing to the late burst of Alexei, form which looks all the better in light of the latter’s impressive subsequent display in the Greatwood at Cheltenham. Indeevar Bleu did the job well following a wind op on his handicap debut when last seen in April and he is feared most Viyanni and Live Conti are also striking candidates. 1-2-3: 1.INDEMNITY

The Coral Gold Cup was first run at Cheltenham in 1957 but was moved to Newbury after three years, forging a reputation as one of the most prestigious races in jumps racing.
It has earned its place through the achievements of a glittering roll call of former winners, headed by Arkle, who represent many of the best chasers to have graced the sport.
Mill House, Bregawn, Burrough Hill Lad, One Man, Denman, Bobs Worth, ManyCloudsandNativeRiverwereotherstohaveembellishedtheircareers with victory in the 3m2f handicap chase.
There have been no three time winners, Arkle narrowly failing when beaten byStalbridgeColonist,towhomhewasconceding35lb,in1966,andDenman finishing third in 2010.
The late Fulke Walwyn enjoyed multiple successes with an unmatched record of seven wins from Mandarin (1957 & 1961), Taxidermist (1958), Mill House (1963), Man of the West (1968), Charlie Potheen (1972) and Diamond Edge (1981).
NickyHenderson(2005Trabolgan,2012BobsWorth&2013TrioloD’Alene)and Paul Nicholls (2003 Strong Flow, 2007 & 2009 Denman) are the most successful current trainers with three wins each.

TherehavebeenfourhorsesthathavecapturedtheCoralGoldCupandthe Cheltenham Gold Cup in the same season - Arkle, Bregawn, Denman and Bobs Worth.
Native River won the Coral Gold Cup and Welsh National in 2016 and the following season landed the 2018 Cheltenham Gold Cup.
Many Clouds remains the only horse to have won both the Coral Gold Cup and the Grand National at Aintree.
