THE JOCKEY CLUB WELCOMES
Welcome to back to Haydock Park for another brilliant afternoon of racing. We were treated to an enjoyable afternoon of racing yesterday, and are looking forward to what this afternoon has to offer.
The seven race card begins at 1:30pm before the final race brings the afternoon to a close at 5pm. One of the feature races of the day is the Lester Piggott First to Last Handicap, off at 2:40pm The race is named after the great Lester Piggott who sadly passed away earlier this year Lester celebrated his first ever ride here at Haydock Park in 1948 when he was just 12 years old, and rode in his final race here in 1994 before he retired. We wish all connections of runners here today the very best of luck.
As ever, we would like to thank our partners for their continued support. Today, our thanks go to Family of Jill Wilcox-Jones, Paramount Digital, and Zachary Daniels We wish them and their guests a wonderful day with us
We hope you are able to join us on Friday 14 October for our Flat Season Finale, before we welcome Jump racing back to Haydock Park on Saturday 19 November for Betfair Chase Day.
We hope you all have a great day, and look forward to seeing you back on course very soon
Best wishes, Molly Dingwall

NEW:
Our membership was saddened to hear of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II sixteen days ago. She was a fantastic ambassador for horse racing generally and her last group race winner was here at Haydock Park earlier this year when King’s Lynn won the Cazoo Temple Stakes Today, we also celebrate the life of Lester Piggott. Lester won his first and last race here and sadly died a few months ago. We had the pleasure of meeting him a few years ago at Haydock Park and his achievements included thirty Classic victories Lester passed away earlier this year at the age of eighty-six
Earlier this month, Minzaal took the Betfair Sprint Cup in a display of sheer sprinting brilliance, destroying the field in a matter of strides. It was a performance which was the pièce de résistance of his career, and he reportedly heads to stud His colours will adorn our badge next year
We have a menagerie of amenities at your disposal today. I am delighted to announce a viewing box will once again be in operation for your use, high up in the grandstand. We have a designated area and seating for your exclusive enjoyment and comfort.
With just one flat meeting to go after today, attention turns to the National Hunt season at Haydock Park The Betfair Chase is our flagship contest and is only eight weeks away. Last year, A Plus Tard was an unforgettable winner en-route to Gold Cup glory at Cheltenham
Work is very much underway on next year’s package for our Annual Badgeholders Thirty-two days racing are included here at Haydock Park, together with a package festooned with extras It offers the racing enthusiast an affordable and enjoyable package to enjoy racing at Haydock Park and makes an ideal Christmas present. More details will follow in due course on the website.
I hope you have an enjoyable and successful days racing.
I wish you all an enjoyable and successful afternoons racing .
Stephen Darbyshire Annual Members RepresentativeI would like to welcome all our Annual Badgeholders to Haydock Park this afternoon for an afternoon of fantastic racing.

Look out for the charity Racing to School today; you shouldn’t miss them as they will be leading a group of local pupils and their teachers through every corner of the racecourse for an action-packed day of fun challenges and discovery. The charity works nationwide with over 250 schools, and this year will reach around 16,000 young people at UK racecourses, trainers’yards and studs.
They deliver free, outdoor activity days to support the learning and to boost the self-confidence of children aged nine and above. Racing to School uses racing venues as unique, fast-moving classrooms full of opportunities to practise and improve subjects like maths, literacy and problem-solving.
The charity is only able to support young people’s education through the kind donations it receives. Please scan this QR code to donate, if you can.

JILL WILCOX-JONES
Jill Wilcox-Jones was an adored wife, mother and grandmother who sadly died from leukaemia in 2016. She had received a stem cell transplant that was facilitated by the wonderful blood cancer charity, Anthony Nolan, which we continue to support.
Jill’s professional career was dedicated to mental health and she spent the last 15 years of her working life, as a Principal Psychological Therapist for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (North Wales). The greatest part of her role, was to improve the health outcomes of people suffering from cancer. It was a service that she was responsible for setting up and it was held in high regard. After Jill died, the health board set up an annual award in her name, to celebrate the hugely positive contribution she made to services in North Wales. She is forever missed and loved by her family.

Racehorse & Jockey Welfare
The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority. The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Haydock Park Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey. If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.
