WELCOME TO

Hello and a very warm welcome to the second day of The Christmas Meeting at Cheltenham Racecourse.

With the festive season in full swing, we’re delighted to share another exciting afternoon of top-class Jump racing with you. The atmosphere is sparkling with Christmas cheer, and we’re thrilled to have you with us for what promises to be a memorable day on the track

Today’s feature race is the Support The Hunt Family Fund December Gold Cup, the £125,000 Premier Handicap Chase. We are deeply honoured to stage this year’s renewal in support of The Hunt Family Fund John and Amy Hunt are two outstanding people, and the courage, dignity and resilience they have shown since the tragic events of July last year is truly humbling.

The team here at Cheltenham were determined to support The Hunt Family Fund in any way possible, and by running our feature race of The Christmas Meeting under its name in 2025, we hope to help highlight the important causes the fund is supporting, while also providing a fitting tribute to three outstanding people – Carol, Hannah and Louise Hunt Donations can be made around the racecourse today.

On the track, the race promises to be a thrilling contest One of March’s Festival heroes, Jagwar, returns and teams up once again with Jonjo O’Neill Jnr for Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero, hoping to pick up right where he left off Tough opposition stands in his way, including the Skelton team’s Hoe Joly Smoke, and Vincenzo, runner-up in the Paddy Power Gold Cup, representing Dylan Johnston and Sam Thomas, who will be aiming to go one better this afternoon It looks a superb card all round.

Pre-racing entertainment begins in the Parade Ring with the Official Preview Show at 11.20am, offering expert insight into today’s key contenders Beyond the racing, we invite you to enjoy the festive delights across the course, including our Winter Wonderland in the Tattersalls Sales Arena, where you can meet Father Christmas’s reindeer, join the elves for gift-making fun, and soak up the magic with timeless Christmas classics – the perfect soundtrack for getting into the festive mood. And keep your eyes peeled when wandering the course you may just bump into Father and Mrs Christmas out for a stroll.

We also encourage you to take part in our Christmas Tipping Competition, with the chance to win tickets to future meetings Full details can be found inside the racecard, entries close before Race 2 at 12.40pm, so be sure to get involved!

A huge thank you to today’s partners for their generous support: JCB, Quintessentially, Support The Hunt Family Fund, BetMGM and Albert Bartlett Their contributions help us deliver a truly exceptional raceday experience

We’re back again on New Year’s Day, one of our biggest racedays of the season, and we would be delighted to welcome you back to start 2026 in style.

We hope you have a wonderful day at Cheltenham and a very happy Christmas

DON’T FORGET OUR NEXT MEETING: Thursday 1st January 2026

BETTING EXPLAINED

Select your horse. Note their name and saddlecloth number

Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.

‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.

‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.

Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.

Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.

Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Cheltenham Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.
