GOODWOOD RACES 2024
FRIDAY 3 MAY
OFFICIAL PROGRAMME
FRIDAY 3 MAY
OFFICIAL PROGRAMME
Welcome to day one of our Season Opener, which marks the start of an exciting summer of racing across 19 fixtures.
Today’s seven-race card features fabulous racing. A wealth of young stars are destined to emerge with the valuable Novice and Conditions Stakes. The latter is run in memory of John Dunlop, a leading trainer of his era, who enjoyed a plethora of top-flight successes at the course including Posse who was a winner of the Qatar Sussex Stakes in 1980. Five further competitive handicaps including the feature £40,000 contest make for an exciting day on The South Downs.
We are delighted to feature a number of new look areas. For this fixture, The Double Trigger Restaurant will be transformed into a pop up curated by award-winning local seafood restaurant, The Briny, while on the concourse you will be able to sample the Goodwood Blend Coffee, roasted by Cast Iron. You can also enjoy a refreshing Hendrick’s cocktail at The Hendrick’s Gin Pavilion - a speciality bar in the Gordon Enclosure offering unique serves for visitors.
Thank you to William Hill and the Trustees of the European Breeders’ Fund for their continued support as sponsors of today’s card.
I do hope you have an enjoyable afternoon’s racing and will be able to join us for the second day of our Season Opener meeting tomorrow, which promises to be special with two Listed contests including The William Hill Conqueror Fillies’ Stakes and The British Stallion Studs EBF Daisy Warwick Fillies’ Stakes.
We hope that you will have a successful and enjoyable season.

course characteristics
Goodwood’s pronounced gradients and sharp bends favour the active, handy type of horse, the fluent mover rather than the big, long-striding runner, and this applies especially in short races and when the going is fast.
