Racing Fixtures Season Opener Friday 29 Saturday 30 April ~ May Festival Friday 20 – Saturday 21 May ~ Three Friday Nights presented by heycar Friday 3, 10 and 17 June ~ Family Race Day Sunday 5 June ~ Qatar Goodwood Festival Tuesday 26 Saturday 30 July ~ August Bank Holiday Friday 26 Sunday 28 August ~ Midweek Racing Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 21 September ~ Season Finale Sunday 9 October

Our thanks go to William Hill who are today’s title sponsor, alongside the trustees of the European Breeders’ Fund, for their continued support.

Today’s competitive card features no fewer than three Group contests among the seven-race programme. The Group 2 William Hill Celebration Mile is the most valuable and has been dominated in recent years by jockey Oisin Murphy. Victory aboard Beat The Bank followed back-to-back wins on Lightning Spear who returned to the Sussex Downs a year later to claim the Group 1 showpiece at the Qatar Goodwood Festival, The Qatar Sussex Stakes.

For a second successive year the William Hill March Stakes will be run in memory of the late John Dunlop, a former member of the Goodwood Board of Directors who twice won the Group 3 contest, first in 1972 with Scottish Rifle and again twenty years later with Rain Raider There is something to appeal to every member of the family at Goodwood today, from a traditional fairground featuring a carousel and big wheel, to donkey rides and a petting zoo.

Family Fun

The Duke of Richmond & Gordon Chairman, Goodwood Racecourse 1

Fillies take centre stage in the William Hill Prestige Stakes, a race that has provided a springboard to Classic success. In 2017, the popular Billesdon Brook was successful in this before claiming victory in the following year’s 2,000 Guineas. The talented, Isabella Giles and Mise En Scene, successful in this in 2020 and 2021 respectively, also provided notable winners.

I hope you enjoy this afternoon’s racing and will be able to join us for the third and final day of the Bank Holiday meeting tomorrow

Welcome to the second day of our August Bank Holiday fixture, where traditional family entertainment combines with top-class racing to create the perfect day on the South Downs.
