Hello and a very warm welcome back to Cheltenham Racecourse for the second day of The William Hill Showcase, as we continue the opening weekend of the 2025/26 Jump season
Following a thrilling start yesterday, the action continues today with another seven races, offering an early indication of form and setting the stage for the season ahead
We’re also delighted to be welcoming INVADES, who join us in the Best Mate enclosure for what promises to be an unforgettable raceday atmosphere With a record turnout of around 6,000 students, many experiencing Cheltenham for the first time, we’re thrilled to open the doors of the Home of Jump Racing to the next generation of racing fans It’s vital we continue to inspire and welcome young people into this great sport, and today is the perfect celebration of that energy and enthusiasm.
Make your way to The Centaur at 12:15pm for a special raceday preview hosted by racing broadcaster Nick Luck, joined by racing greats Sir AP McCoy and Barry Geraghty. They’ll be talking you through today’s card, offering expert insight and highlighting their ones to watch for the afternoon ahead This is followed by the Preview Show in the winners’ enclosure at 12.35pm presented by Martin Kelly and Aly Vance
On the track, the William Hill Bet Odds Guaranteed Handicap Chase headlines the afternoon, featuring some standout contenders including Hyland, a dual Cheltenham winner last season, alongside Nasalam, Three Card Brag, and Cheltenham Festival runner-up Rock My Way. Also among the day’s runners, Gowel Road looks to reignite his strong Cheltenham record, while Welcome To Cartries makes his eagerly anticipated first start over fences, a fascinating novice chase prospect for the season ahead
Off the track, the brand new 50:50 Raffle returns for its second day, giving racegoers the chance to win big while supporting a great cause. Don’t miss your opportunity to take part and make a difference to the Gold Cup community fund
The GBR Jockey Gym is also back at Cheltenham today, where the team will be hosting interactive masterclasses, demonstrations and signings You can take on your friends and family in strength challenges, meet some friendly Shetland ponies which is the starting point for many of today’s top jockeys and even step into the Commentator’s Box to try your hand at calling the action over some of last season’s Cheltenham highlights.
Enjoy the rich acoustic sounds of Luke Brougham in between races, performing in the Tattersalls Sales Arena. And when the racing concludes, The Centaur is your post-racing destination, where Mojo will bring the day to a close with crowd favourites guaranteed to have you singing along and soaking up the atmosphere We’d like to extend our sincere thanks to today’s race sponsors; William Hill, Pertemps, Mastersons Holdings and Oddschecker for their generous support in making this day possible
Whether this is your first time at Cheltenham or a welcome return, thank you for being part of this special weekend as we launch another unforgettable season of Jump racing at the Home of our sport.
Enjoy your day.

The rise of statistics in sport has transformed how sporting events are broadcast, played, and followed and data has become essential for performance analysis and planning. RaceiQ’s metrics aim to bring horse racing to a modern, data-savvy audience. The metrics are all powered by GPS trackers carried on every horse and produce:
The lengths gained, or lost, by a horse at each obstacle in a race, relative to the field.
This quantifies a horse’s jumping ability at each obstacle, in a race, and throughout its career as a score out of ten. It compares the efficiency, speed and fluency of a horse’s jumps against all those recorded in the RaceiQ database.

The difference in a horse’s speed (in mph) from entering the Jumping Envelope (the area 30m before and after a fence) to landing.
The horse’s speed (in mph) when entering the Jumping Envelope.

The speed a horse completes the final four furlongs in comparison to the whole race; An FSP of 110% reflects a horse covering the final furlongs 10% quicker than they travelled through the race as a whole.
The distance a horse covers with a full cycle of a stride. We can measure both the average and peak stride length of a horse (in metres).

These can be used to analyse previous runs and attempt to predict future performance. A great example was Ballyburn at the 2025 Cheltenham Festival. His career Jump Index of 6.8 out of 10 before the race was lower than all but one of his rivals, and on the day, he scored a Jump Index of 5.8 out of 10, which was the worst of the seven runners. The Lengths Gained Jumping metric then quantified the impact of this poor jumping, highlighting that despite only finishing eight and a half lengths behind the winner, Lecky Watson, he forfeited nearly 20 lengths to him through slow jumping in the race.
We are delighted to be using the RaceIQ data specific to Cheltenham for the first time this season. It will enhance the racegoers experience and bring a whole new aspect to race analysis for our visitors each day.

This should turn out to be strong handicap form but such was the impression INOX ALLEN created on second chase start in the spring, he’s hard to get away from on this return to action. Darcy’s Friend is just the type his excellent yard will get even more out of so he’s a huge threat, while Double Powerful and Crest of Fortune are just a couple of interesting chase debutants.

A strong Irish representation, with CHART TOPPER taken to build on his promising efforts in competitive events at the Punchestown and Galway Festivals. Gordon Elliott’s Winning Smut won a big-field Listed handicap at Galway and is feared most with this step up to 3m promising to play to his strengths. Quantum Quest and Chance Another One also arrive with progressive profiles. Long Draw may prove best of the British.

Running for the first time since Gelding No 5, 9, 11. Stewards Note:
Probable S.P’s: 11-4 Chicker (GB), 6-1 Bells Grove (IRE), 7-1 Antarctic Legend (IRE), Le Beau Madrik (FR), 10-1 Collanisi (IRE), 14-1 Not Without Danger (IRE), 16-1 Crossgales King (IRE), 18-1 Hans Lippershey (GB), 22-1 Le Fabuleux Buck’s (FR), 25-1 Wonder Flying (FR), 50-1 Escort’kheops (FR)
Fergal O’Brien’s CHICKER created an excellent impression when strolling clear in a Worcester bumper in August and can make light of a penaltyto go 2-2 for his in-form yard Dan Skelton’s Le Beau Madrik shaped well when runner-up at Plumpton on his debut in the spring and could emerge as the main danger on his return, although Irish raider Bells Grove also has the form to play a part. Not Without Danger and Collanisi look to have better days ahead ofthem too and complete the shortlist.

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Cheltenham Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.
