We wish you a very warm welcome to Chelmsford City Racecourse and look forward to sharing a great evening of racing with you, not only tonight but also tomorrow as well. We have nine races, beginning at 4.10pm, going through to 8.15pm this evening and another nine races for you tomorrow, beginning at 4.30pm with the last race at 8.30pm.
We have two more legs of our popular “Timeform Sprint Series”, which have attracted eleven runners tonight and fourteen tomorrow. The popularity of this series thus far augurs well for an exciting final on our last fixture of 2025 on Thursday, 18th December.
2025 has been a year to remember for us all here: horses of the calibre of Detain, who went on to finish third in the French Derby, and Luther, who won a Grade 2 in Saratoga, running in our Cardinal Stakes in early April. Then we had our first Sunday Series fixture with seven races on ITV, which was such a success that ITV are coming back here on Sunday, 2nd August next year.
I hope you have a lovely evening and I wish you the best of luck in finding a winner or two.
Neil Graham Racing Director

Timeform Rating
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

At Chelmsford City Racecourse, the welfare of our horses is our highest priority, and this commitment is most visible in the continuous improvements made to our All-Weather racing surface. The surface has been expertly rewaxed and enhanced with added fibre to reduce kickback and improve safety. Additionally, the pedestrian crossing over the track was replaced early on with an underpass from the ticket office to the ring a safer experience for both s.

Variety Act changed hands for 32,000 euros as a yearling and this looks a good starting point for the son of Lope De Vega, so he needs to be monitored in the betting market. However, DOVECOTE makes more appeal as a half-brother to Listed scorer Bullace and he goes for the in-form Ralph Beckett stable. Providing the son of Time Test can navigate his tough draw in stall 15, he looks the way to go. Afraj is another to keep an eye on.

A couple of newcomers representing top yards catch the eye and AFRAJ is preferred to Dovecote before any betting clues. Both make plenty of appeal on paper starting out in a maiden that might not take much winning. Chief Red Wing might have more to give up in trip and looks the pick of those with experience.

Elan D’or has found one too good in each of his last two outings, most recently over this trip at Kempton, and he holds an obvious chance. Luminare might be worth another chance after failing to justify favouritism at Windsor, but SEEWAY gets the vote. The son of Galiway showed more when third at Newmarket last month and an opening mark of 74 looks workable. With Toby Moore claiming a handy 7lb, he might the one to side with.

Nebula Stars arguably brings the best most recent form to the table after his third at Lingfield earlier this month, but a chance can be taken on PETERSBURG. James Owen’s charge hasn’t shown a great deal in three outings in maiden/novice company but is likely to prove a different proposition on his handicap bow. This represents just his second appearance for the stable and he could improve for this step up in distance. Windsor Pass looks best of the rest.

BALLYBAYMOONSHINER won over C&D in May and was a close third on his only subsequent start at Chepstow the following month. On that evidence, it would be no surprise to see the seven-year-old make a winning return here The recent Bath second Mister Sandman could prove to be the main danger, although Adace and Tam Lin are others who arrive with valid form claims.

The recent Kempton winner Justcallmepete is likely to be popular once again, although a 5lb penalty for that success is a slight concern. Similar comments apply to the hat-trick seeking General Assembly, so preference is for SENSORIUM, who won well over C&D last month and a 5lb subsequent rise is negated by Toby Moore’s 7lb claim. Tyger Bay edges out Fantasy Master to be next best.

TYGER BAY looked unlucky not to bag a second C&D success when runner-up recently and is taken to edge out Justcallmepete who built on earlier promise when getting off the mark for Tony Carroll at Kempton a week ago and rates a big threat under a 5lb penalty. CITY SELECTIONS This looks a wide-open contest, so only a tentative vote goes to LOVE YOUR WORK. Darryll Holland’s nine-year-old is a course winner who finished second in this grade over track and trip on his latest outing and could capitalise on an unchanged rating. Kartini sports a first-time tongue-tie in the hope of bringing out improvement on just her second outing in a handicap, so she is of interest. Betty Bassett isn’t ruled out either
