PARENT NEWSLETTER Here to provide you insight, updates, and information on your student's experience at WU

Updates from the Dean Dear Parent or Guardian, Happy Fall! I hope your student had a relaxing fall break. It is difficult to believe that we are halfway through the fall semester. Student Development remains committed to serving your students through a variety of opportunities to grow outside of the classroom. We had a very successful fall break service trip to Louisville, Kentucky, where students learned about globalization, immigration, and community development through a variety of community organizations. Please encourage your student to explore the Service Tab, located on myConnect, for additional information regarding service trip opportunities. Our Student Activities Board offered many exciting events during Homecoming week and continues to offer both on and off-campus opportunities. Thanksgiving is right around the corner! Just a friendly reminder, residence halls/on-campus houses will close on Wednesday, November 22, at noon and re-open on Sunday, November 26, at noon for Thanksgiving Break. Classes resume on Monday, November 27. Wishing you and your family a very blessed Thanksgiving Holiday! As always, we are here to support your student and assist you with any questions along the way. Please do not hesitate to contact us at (724) 852-3206.

Criminal Justice As the Director of the Master’s of Arts in Criminal Investigation, our #1 nationally ranked program prides itself in integrating dual-enrolled senior Criminal Justice and Forensic Investigation students with law enforcement professionals working criminal investigations in the field. This is important for students at the undergraduate level to be exposed to (and become peers with) ranking professionals in the federal, state, and local law enforcement careers they aspire to enter. Waynesburg’s MACI program has been ranked #1 in the nation for the last three years for online programs of its kind. Jim Tanda

Criminal Justice Dear Waynesburg Parents, I wanted to make you aware of something that your sons and daughters have likely noticed already. Next to Waynesburg’s Crime Scene Investigation (CSI House) on the corner of Morris Street and 1st Avenue, two houses were recently demolished, and the land has been leveled. In November, when that land has been cleared, there will be a formal groundbreaking for Waynesburg’s latest addition, a brand-new Criminal Justice Center! The Criminal Justice Center will provide classrooms, a conference area, and the latest in technology, helping the University remain at the forefront of Forensic and Criminal Justice education. Please stay tuned. We will be providing updates as development occurs. When the Center is open, we would love to have you and your sons and daughters pay us a visit! Kenneth B. Cairns, Ph.D. Department Chair of Criminal Justice and Social Sciences

Demolition of this house and the adjacent one will make way for the building of a new Criminal Justice Center next to the current Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) House at Waynesburg.

Department of Business Administration Business students participate in small group brainstorming sessions, simulations, activities and projects strategically planned to allow students to experience hands-on, experiential learning. Tax return preparation for underprivileged families and individuals, prototyping in a state-of-the-art Makerspace, building marketing plans for local business owners, and learning startup skills through the execution of a popup shop are among the many ways our students gain firsthand knowledge. These experiences afford students the opportunity to grasp course concepts in a creative and innovative way while also gaining necessary skills for their chosen fields. Our students are making connections between what they are learning in the classroom and the skills that are critical to their selected professions. Oftentimes, students find themselves utilizing learned skills in real-world situations that force them to analyze, adapt - and even pivot - in an effort to achieve an end goal. Some news from the Business Department on internships!

Under our recently signed partnership with Schneider Downs - Ryheem Dive will be interning for the CPA firm during the summer of 2024 in Pittsburgh. Ryheem is an accounting major. We have our first intern, Gage Fuller, working for Bank of New York Mellon in Pittsburgh this summer. Gage is a Finance major.
