We invite you to support your favorite department, team, or program in raising funds and creating an immediate impact Together, let’s make this 10th Day of Giving our most successful yet! Thank you for your continued generosity and support

Criminal justice students from Waynesburg University received an unparalleled, behind-the-scenes tour of the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in Hershey recently, gaining direct insight into the diverse and demanding careers in modern law enforcement. The visit was designed to bridge classroom theory with real-world application, offering students a tangible look at their potential futures.

A key highlight of the trip was the opportunity for students to connect with Waynesburg University alumnus Lieutenant G. Powell, Commander of the Tactical Operations Division in the Bureau of Emergency and Special Operations. Lt. Powell graciously met with the students and arranged for exclusive demonstrations from several elite units under his command.

Timothy A. Gilbert, Director of Public Safety and Instructor of Criminal Justice at Waynesburg University, organized the visit to inspire and inform his students.

"My hope is that our students left with a clear understanding of the incredible opportunities they can get from working for the Pennsylvania State Police," said Gilbert. "Seeing the professionalism and dedication of the Troopers firsthand is an invaluable part of their education."

Students recently participated in a cadaver laboratory experience led by Dr. Jamie Weary, Penn West University, who guided them through a hands-on exploration of human anatomy. Dr. Weary runs the experience much like an NCI investigation unit challenging students to diagnose pathologies such as a ruptured pancreas and to compare anatomical structures, like a natural optic lens versus an optic lens replacement. This cadaver experience provides students with a unique opportunity to connect classroom learning to real human anatomy, deepening their understanding of physiological structures and clinical application.

Nursing

The Nursing Department has acquired a groundbreaking AI-powered manikin, marking a significant advancement in nursing education. The new simulator, Alex, is the first artificial intelligence manikin of its kind and is now housed on the first floor of Stewart Science Hall. Alex is the first part of ongoing renovations to Stewart Science Hall’s first floor, which has recently been rebranded as the Nursing Clinical Learning Center.

Alex brings state-of-the-art capabilities that allow our nursing students to engage in dynamic, real-time patient care scenarios. Equipped with responsive, speech-enabled artificial intelligence, the manikin is able to listen, see and respond to students using a built-in camera and microphone system. The camera embedded within the eyes of the manikin records every interaction, providing valuable footage for faculty assessments and student feedback.

As a Christian comprehensive University, we strive to inspire and challenge every undergraduate and graduate student to a life of leadership and purpose for the glory of God.

Business Off ice

We are about a month away from Spring billing. As a reminder, tuition statements are sent electronically. Students should access their online tuition account through the Nelnet Online Tuition link and check their current account status through Fall. If you have not yet been added to your student’s tuition account, please encourage them to add you as an authorized party so you have access to their statements. If your student has any questions or needs assistance with their account they can stop by or reach out to the Business Office 724-852-3298, 724-852-3403 or BusinessOffice@waynesburg.edu.

Walmart Delivery Information

When placing a Walmart order for delivery, please ensure your student is available at the time of drop-off. The campus mailroom is NOT open 24/7, and Waynesburg University is NOT responsible for packages that are delivered and left unattended on campus grounds. Waynesburg University is also NOT responsible for the refrigeration of cold items such as groceries. To avoid issues, students should coordinate delivery times so they can personally receive their orders.

Pathways Center

The Criminal Justice and Social Sciences Career Fair was held on Wednesday, October 29. More than 40 employers participated in this event. This fair was hosted in collaboration with the Criminal Justice and Social Sciences Department.

The Writing Center and Eberly Library staff members collaborated for a Banned Books Week Celebration event. It was featured in the ObserverReporter, our local newspaper: Observer Reporter

The Pathways Center team, in collaboration with Student Development, contacted each student with a D or F on their midterm reports in an effort to get them connected to campus resources that can help them succeed. Students can reach out to the Pathways Center for academic support at pathways@waynesburg.edu.

Tutoring is currently available for 70 classes on campus (see attached image). The last day for tutoring is Friday, December 5.

A "Speed Styling" event will be hosted in the Pathways Center on November 20. At this event, students will be challenged with putting together a professional outfit using items in the University Career Closet. Prizes will be awarded for "Most Professional" and "Crowd Favorite" outfits. December graduates are encouraged to reach out to the Pathways Center for Career Development assistance, including resume review and job search assistance.

All seniors should have completed Degree Audits by now! Check with your student - if they haven't submitted their degree audit, please encourage them to do so ASAP, as this is required (and it's much more helpful if they do it before the spring semester begins!).

The last day that appointments are available in Waynesburg's Undergraduate Writing Center in room B16 of Eberly Library is Thursday, December 4.
