Election Day is Tuesday Kings Mountain voters will go to the polls Tuesday, Nov. 7 to elect three members of city council and to join their Cleveland County neighbors in electing four members to the Board of Education from a field of nine candidates. Some voters will also be voting for members of the county water board. In Grover two seats of incumbent council are uncontested. Polls open at 6:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m. The two Kings Mountain precincts are KM North at the H. Lawrence Patrick Center
on East King Street and KM South at Mauney Memorial Library, S. Piedmont Ave. This is a nonpartisan race. No run-off is permitted. The top vote-getter will be elected. In Ward 2, incumbent councilman and mayor pro tem Mike Butler, Kings Mountain businessman, is challenged by Patty Hall, who ran a close race with Butler four years ago and has been water plant superintendent at the City of Cherryville for 25 years and before that worked at the Bessemer City water

Alumni Award to Mark Hughes Kings Mountain author Mark Hughes, 66, retired college electronics instructor/department head and widely recognized as an authority on Civil War cemeteries, is 2017 winner of the Distinguished Alumni award from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Durant, OK. The award was presented by Southeastern Oklahoma President Dr. Michael Burrage with Mark’s wife, Patty McDaniel Hughes and their daughter, Anna Grace, also attending the event. Due to a recent change in state law and State Board of Elections rules voters who reside in Gaston County but live within the Kings Mountain municipality are required to vote in Gaston County for early voting, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., and Saturday from 8:30 a.m.-12 noon and on Election Day Nov. 7. This is a change from how the Cleveland County Board of Elections and
Gaston County Board of Elections have operated in recent years. Both candidates Mike Butler, Ward 2, and Tommy Hawkins, Ward 3, called state officials because they said the change was made the day before early voting started on Oct. 19. Gaston County Elections Board has mailed out new voter cards to the Gaston County voters affected by the change. Th two Election Day precincts that contain
Kings Mountain voters are Precincts 21 and 22. Precinct 21 is located at Allan Farris Community Center, 220 S. 14th Street, Bessemer City. Precinct 22, Crowders Mountain, is located at Pisgah ARP Church, 3600 Linwood Road, Gastonia. For early voting, the Gaston County Board of Elections is located at 410 W. Franklin Boulevard, Suite 30, in Gastonia.
Veterans Day service is Friday, Nov. 10 The City of Kings Mountain will host the annual Veterans Day Parade and Observance on Friday, November 10. The observance will begin with the parade starting at the War Memorial on Railroad Avenue, across from the Joy Performance Center, at 10:30 a.m. The Kings Moun-
