American Legion World Series Keeter Stadium – (Photo provided by ALWS)

American Legion World Series starts Thursday in Shelby By Loretta Cozart T h e A m e r i can Legion World S e r i e s (ALWS) is this week at Veterans Field and Keeter Stadium in Shelby. Each day provides an opportunity to enjoy baseball, spend quality time with friends and family, and take time to honor our veterans. It is as American as hot dogs, baseball, and apple pie. By the time teams get to Cleveland County for the ALWS, most of them will have played about 50 games; some will have played closer to 70 games. But all of them typically will have won five games at the sub state level; five games at the state level and five games at the regional level. Once at Keeter Stadium, they’re faced with winning five games to become the ALWS Champion. American Legion Post 155 will host the ALWS luncheon on Friday, August 16 at 11 a.m. at the Otis D. Green Post home on East Gold Street. Harold “Hal” Fritz, Medal of Honor Recipient, will speak to an anticipated gathering of 300 people. National Commander
