Tim Moore (R) and David Brinkley (D) both ask for your vote, seeking election to the North Carolina State House on November 6. The matter will be decided in less than one week, when Cleveland County voters go to the polls and cast their votes. Incumbent Tim Moore is a Kings Mountain native and earned his B.A. from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 1992 and his J.D. from the Oklahoma City University School of Law in 1995. His professional experience includes working as an attorney. Moore’s tenure in office began in 2002 and he currently serves a speaker of the House. (https:// ballotpedia. org/Timothy_K._ Moore) Challenger David Brinkley is a Burke County native and earned his B.S. in Education from Western Carolina University. He moved to Kings Mountain after college, teaching and coaching in the public schools. In 1981, he left the teaching profession and entered the financial services industry. His professional experience is in estate
tax and retirement planning. (https://www.brinkleyfornc. com/about-david/) What makes you the best candidate for the office? Moore: The people of Cleveland County deserve a strong voice in the legislature with a record of looking out for our taxpayers, prioritizing education and delivering state support for our region’s promising future. Representing Kings Mountain and our neighbors since 2002, I work each day to help the citizens of my home county and am proud of the successful results we continue to share during my service as Speaker of the House. Brinkley: I am the best candidate for this office for a couple of reasons. First, I’m not a career politician. I’m tuned into the needs of our community because I live here and have for decades. I’m around the citizens of Cleveland County and I’ve raised my family here. Being involved in numerous nonprofits and our schools has allowed me to deeply understand what is needed. I can bring the perspective of someone that has built a business from scratch, and that’s
another reason I’m qualified. As a manager of money, I can ensure that our budget is balanced while maintaining our priorities, such as jobs and education. What are your top 3 legislative priorities for the next two years? Moore: My first legislative priority is to continue creating economic expansion in Cleveland County with pro-growth policies and investments that attract good-paying jobs to our community. North Carolina’s businesses and workforce are now competitive in the global marketplace thanks to tax relief and regulatory reforms that we must maintain to build on our success. A second priority is to continue spending well over half of the state budget on education by keeping our commitments to increase teacher pay five years in a row and rapidly increase spending on school construction, security, and classroom resources. Finally, we must continue the sound financial stewardship of our state government to protect taxpayers in case See ISSUES, Page 4A
