Groundbreaking held for new Belmont Middle School By Alan Hodge alan@cfmedia.info

Folks who took part in last Monday’s official groundbreaking for the new Belmont Middle School kept looking anxiously at black clouds and even endured a brief spurt of rain, but in the end heavier showers held off just long enough for the event to go off smoothly.

A horde of county, school, and City of Belmont dignitaries, as well as a large group of interested parents and other citizens, witnessed shovelfuls of red dirt turned as well as numerous speeches praising the project. So many luminaries showed up for the event that the dirt shoveling ceremony had to be done in shifts. Even though the event

was labeled as a “groundbreaking”, the fact is a whole lot of work in the form of heavy equipment grading has already been done on the 78-acre site just down South Point Rd. from the high school of the same name. The new school will replace the current Belmont Middle School located on See GROUNDBREAKING, Pages 10 & 11

Mt. Holly Farmers Market getting special new place By Alan Hodge alan@cfmedia.info

When the Mt. Holly Farmers Market begins its spring 2019 season in May, patrons and vendors will be

amazed to see what’s been built for their visual and victual pleasure. What was formerly a plot of pavement on S. Main St. in downtown Mt. Holly has been transformed by the con-

struction of a large, architecturally significant, trellis system where market sales and special events will take place. See MARKET, Page 3
