Stanley hires new fire chief By Alan Hodge alan@cfmedia.info
The Town of Stanley has hired Eric Withers as its new fire chief. “I am excited at being selected for the job and look forward to meeting the challenges associated with it,” Withers said. “I am also excited to meet the other members of the team as well as the firefighters and working with
them towards the vision of making Stanley a better and safer town.” Stanley town manager Heath Jenkins had this to say about Withers. “I have no doubt that Chief Withers is the right person for the job, for the right reasons at the right time,” said Jenkins. “Like the entire eastern side of Gaston County, Stanley is experiencing modest resi-
dential growth with new subdivisions, thus an increase in calls for service. The Town’s fire department has historically been a predominantly volunteer organization and the Town is in need of more volunteers to staff the department. We believe Chief Withers, because of his reputation and connections with many firefighters across the region, See CHIEF, Page 2 Eric Withers has been hired as the new fire chief in Stanley. Belmont Historical Society Museum ready for spring action By Alan Hodge alan@cfmedia.info
After several months of refitting and refurbishing, the Belmont Historical Society Museum at 40 Catawba St.
is back up to speed and ready for spring presentations and events. The BHS museum is located in the circa 1899 Robert Lee Stowe Sr. house. Time and water took its toll
on the structure so last year major repair work had to be done to the floor and beams in one of the display rooms. The cement ramp and steps on that corner of the house See SOCIETY, Page 2

Selected art, photographic works or designs, will be printed on high quality vinyl wraps which will be professionally installed on various electrical, utility and traffic signal boxes. Seven art works will be selected from the submissions. The selected art works will help visualize and demonstrate district identity and beautify public spaces.” This box in Morehead City shows how a wrap can transform a According to Street, this utilitarian object into one of beauty.
