New Mt. Holly public works headquarters is a winner By Alan Hodge alan@cfmedia.info

“We did it nice and we did it right.” That assessment of the new City of Mt. Holly Mt. Holly public works facility by assistant city manager Miles Braswell pretty well describes every aspect of the $4 million complex of buildings on Adrian St. that recently opened for business. The project started with several structures that were purchased from American & Efird, then renovated to suit the city’s needs. To that was

added a brand new $2.6 million, 8,000 sq. ft. administration building, landscaping, and parking lots. The project was handled by Miles McClellan Construction Co. Bad weather challenged the project on several occasions, but one by one, city departments began to move into their new home which was officially occupied in late September 2018. Let’s take a tour of the new facility. Light, airy, clean, and efficient are good words to describe the administration building. The structure

will be the nerve center for the utility, streets and solid waste, building maintenance, parks and recreation, and fleet services administrative staff. Every room has brand new furniture. Offices and other rooms are flooded with light from large windows. The floor is clean enough to eat off of, but why do that when there’s a nice break room for employees to enjoy. An interesting feature of the administrative building is a special room where important documents such as See MHPW, Page 5

Belmont Banner bound volumes getting plenty of TLC at Abbey by Alan Hodge alan@cfmedia.info

For those of you who have wondered where bound volumes of the Belmont Banner going back to 1945 went, here’s the answer. They are receiving care and conservation at the Belmont Abbey College Abbot Vincent Taylor Library. Last July, the BannerNews and its parent company Community First Media, donated decades of bound volumes of the Belmont Banner to the Belmont Historical Society.. So, BHS president Stan Cromlish took the opportunity to move the volumes to the Abbey for conservation and safekeeping. “As the President of the Belmont Historical Society, I cannot say enough about the generosity of Community First Media for their donation of seventy plus years of the Belmont Banner newspaper in bound volumes,” said

a leading manufacturing center to a bedroom community for Charlotte protected on three sides by Lake Wylie, the Catawba River, and the See VOLUMES, Page 3A
