Last NCANG C-130 leaves local base Belmont's 27th annual Unity Day Celebration set The final Charlotte-based C-130 Hercules aircraft belonging to the North Carolina Air National Guard departed for its new home in Savannah, Ga. On Dec. 18. This marks a major point in the unit’s transition into a C-17 Wing.

This event has been going on in Belmont with the goal of fostering unity between people from all walks of life. Reverend Anarah Henderson from Trinity Unity AME Zion Church will give the message. The N.C. Air National Guard has flown the C-130 Hercules for well over 40 years, utilizing them in our mission to maintain wartime readiness with the ability to mobilize and deploy expeditiously to carry out air support missions and activities in the event of a war or military emergency. The C-130 will leave behind a legacy that Airmen both past and present will remember for generations to come. Over the next few months the 145th Airlift Wing will undergo significant overhauls in preparation for the arrival of the first C-17 Globemaster III aircraft during the first weekend in April. Basing C-17s at Charlotte Douglas International Airport is a costeffective, total force decision that takes advantage of a superior, multi-platform transportation hub, close to major military The flight crew of the last Charlotte-based NCANG C-130 is seen just prior to takeoff.
