y name is Charlie Blewett and I’m based near Falmouth in Cornwall. I have always been in love with flowers but realised that I had a passion for them whilst planning my own wedding. I decided to train to become a florist and went to Floristry school in Bath. From this I have set up Blew Flowers. I love all that flowers have to offer, their individuality, the different types, smells and the huge array of colours and textures. VEGAN CHILLI This vegan chilli packs in plenty of vegetables and doesn’t fall short on the flavour front. Serve it with rice or in jacket potatoes for a filling supper 3 tbsp olive oil 2 sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into medium chunks 2 tsp smoked paprika 2 tsp ground cumin 1 onion, chopped 2 carrots, peeled and chopped 2 celery sticks, chopped 2 garlic cloves, crushed 1-2 tsp chilli powder (depending on how hot you like it) 1 tsp dried oregano 1 tbsp tomato purée 1 red pepper, cut into chunks 2 x 400g cans chopped tomatoes
METHOD
1. Heat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. Put the sweet potato chunks in a roasting tin and drizzle over 1½ tbsp oil, 1 tsp smoked paprika and 1 tsp ground cumin. Give everything a good mix so that all the chunks are coated in spices, season with salt and pepper then roast for 25 mins until cooked. Meanwhile, heat the remaining oil in a large saucepan over a medium heat. Add the onion, carrot and celery. Cook for 8-10 mins, stirring occasionally until soft then crush in the garlic and cook for

400g can black beans, drained 400g can kidney beans, drained lime wedges, guacamole, coriander and rice to serve
1 min more. Add the remaining dried spices and tomato puree. Give everything a good mix and cook for 1 min more. Add the red pepper, chopped tomatoes and 200ml of water. Bring the chilli to a boil then simmer for 20 mins. Tip in the beans and cook for another 10 mins before adding the sweet potato. Season to taste then serve with lime wedges, guac, rice and coriander. Make ahead and freeze for up to 3 months.
THE BEST SLOW COOKER CHILLI RECIPE EVER! INGREDIENTS
3-4 pounds stew beef (roughly chopped chuck roast) generous salt generous pepper oil, for browning meat 2 very large onions, chopped 2 cups celery (about 4 stalks), chopped well 6 cloves of garlic, smashed and minced 2 jalapenos, seeded and chopped 1/4 cup chili powder 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional) 2 tablespoons cumin seed 1 tablespoon oregano 1 and 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder 1 tablespoon brown sugar 4 cups beef broth 1/4 cup masa harina 2 tablespoons tomato paste 1 (28 ounce can) crushed tomatoes 2 (15 ounce) cans kidney beans 3 bay leaves

METHOD 1. Begin by browning the meat. Dry off the beef with paper towels if it is very wet. Sprinkle all over with a generous amount of salt and pepper. 2. Heat a large, high sided skillet over medium high heat. Add about 1 tablespoon oil and swirl to coat. 3. Brown the meat in batches. Place each piece in the skillet with about an inch of space around it. Do not crowd the meat or they will steam each other, which will not give you that sear you are going for. After 1-2 minutes, when it is nice and brown on the bottom, use tongs to flip each piece of beef. Sear the other side for another 1 minute or so, until brown. 4. Remove the beef to a large crock pot. Continue searing the rest of the beef, adding more oil to the pan as necessary. Adjust the heat lower if the pan starts to get black on the bottom, but keep it above medium. 5. Once all the beef is seared, add more oil to the pan if there is not enough, you need about a tablespoon. Add the chopped onion and celery. (Turn the heat off and remove the pan from the heat if your veggies are not chopped yet. 6. Saute the onions and celery over medium high heat for about 5 minutes, until they start to soften. They should be all brown and delicious looking, picking up all that beef flavor. 7. Add 6 cloves of minced garlic and 2 chopped jalapenos. 8. Add chili powder, cayenne pepper, cumin seed (or powder), oregano, garlic powder, and brown sugar. 9. Stir it all together and let the spices toast into the veggies for a couple minutes. 10. Add the beef broth and scrape up the bottom of the pan. 11. Slowly pour in 1/4 cup of masa harina, stir-
ring constantly. Break up any lumps right away. 12. Pour the mixture into the crock pot. 13. Add 2 tablespoons tomato paste, the can of crushed tomatoes, 2 cans of drained kidney beans, and 3 bay leaves to the crock pot. Stir it all together. 14 Put the lid on the crock pot and cook on high for 6 hours, or low for 8-10 hours. The longer you leave it in, the better, because the beef will just get more tender and delicious. 15. When it’s time to eat, use a wooden spoon to break up the chunks of beef. Or you could remove it to a plate and shred with a fork, then return to the pot. 16. Serve with sour cream, cheddar cheese, finely chopped onions, and cilantro.

hat better way to get healthier in 2020 than W a beautiful coastal or inland walk? iwalk Cornwall is an amazing little app which I use
describing exactly when and what to do next, and giving you information about the local area as you walk around the route. Search the App Store regulary! They have devised over 240 walks in or Google Play for “iWalk Cornwall” to install Cornwall, ranging from 2 to 10 miles, totalling it. If you don’t have a smartphone, the walks are over 1000 miles! Each walk has a map of the route, available to browse on the web. These are a few detailed directions, photos and notes on the herit- of my favourite walks that I have done so far, and age and natural history. The walks are classified by I have to add, you will not be disappointed! The length, steepness grade, type of scenery (coastal, app is so user friendly and easy to follow. The app moorland, riverside etc) and, of course, whether is FREE, you just pay to download the walk you there’s a pub! The walks are all available via their want to do, it’s that easy. Just scan the bar code guided walk mobile app - a “SatNav” for walking, and it will take you straight to the walk! Ashley :)
ROUGH TOR AND BROWN WILLY
SENNEN COVE TO NANQUIDNO
The walk climbs to the summit of Rough Tor, via the Holy Well, and follows the ridge Showery Tor, where there are spectacular views to the North Cornish coast. The route then drops into the valley and climbs to the top of Brown Willy - the highest point in Cornwall - where there are views south to the China clay hills around St Austell. The return route circles the base of Rough Tor, through the remains of prehistoric settlements overlooking the Fernacre stone circle.
The route runs along the length of Whitesand Bay from Sennen Cove to Gwynver and at low tide can be done all the way along the white sand. The walk then follows the rugged granite coast around Aire Point to Nanquidno where granite boulders polished over millions of years by a prehistoric ocean were buried when sea levels fell and have since been unveiled by the eroding cliffs. The return route is along footpaths, tracks and small lanes via the mediaeval farmsteads of Nanquidno, Gurland and Escalls.

The route follows the coast path along the edge of Carrick Roads to the waterside village of Flushing where a week-long regatta is held in July. The return route is over the hill, descending to Mylor creek through woods which are carpeted in wild garlic flowers in the spring. The final stretch back to Mylor is along the creek via the churchyard.
