Dear Waukegan Township Family & Friends, It’s been a long time coming, but the wait for summer is finally over! I hope each of you enjoyed the various Independence Day festivities around town. July and August are bursting at the seams with fun-filled, familyfocused activities, just take a look at our summer line up! Get ready for our Second Annual Picnic in the Park Summer Concert Series. This year’s entertainment includes the musical stylings of: The Blast From the Past Band - Friday, July 22nd, Los Perros Cubanos -
Friday, August19th and The Southside Soul Kings, who will close out this season’s concert series on Saturday, September 10th, immediately following our Annual Walk For Seniors celebration, which kicks off at 10:00 am! The PAJ Center has recently been awarded funding to enhance our Technology, Physical Fitness and Transportation programs! Our complimentary computer classes will begin August 1st and cover a variety of topics and introduce new users with the skill to navigate throughout the World Wide Web and other programs and apps. We’ve added an additional, in-person day of exercise with our resident physical fitness instructor, Mrs. Kanecia Brown! Classes will be held Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, starting at 9:00 am., beginning Tuesday, September 6th. Rounding out the summer excitement is the ALL NEW weekend transportation! This program will assist seniors in keeping up with their social activities and engagements. Uber & Lyft services will be provided around-theclock on Saturdays and Sundays. The creative suggestions were finally able to be narrowed down to one and we will reveal that name on our September/October edition, additionally, we will announce the $100 prize winner! The Patricia A. Jones Center, in conjunction with the Waukegan Park District, will hold our very first Pickle Ball Tournament on Saturday August 27th. (See page 4 for more tournament information) As we celebrate the sights and sounds of summer, we want to encourage those who may be challenged by excessive heat and humidity, that the PAJ Center is an official cooling center, open weekdays from 9:00 am - 4:30 pm.
