It’s Official!

With the recent expansion of our borders to now include Shields Township, we are excited about the introduction of our satellite office, located at 1801 Sheridan Rd., North Chicago. This newly implemented intergovernmental agreement allows Shields Township residents to now be eligible to apply for Waukegan Township Emergency Assistance. Services will be extended to residents throughout the cities of:

• North Chicago

• Knollwood

• Lake Forest

• Lake Bluff

Independence Day

Please mark your calendars for some exciting events being presented by the Patricia A. Jones Center! On Saturday, July 22nd from 11:00am to 2:00pm, we will hold our Waukegan Township Patricia A. Jones Center Summer Music Festival. Join us in the Corrine J. Rose Park, as we listen to the sounds of Gospel, Jazz, Latin, Blues, R&B and Country. Hawaiian Luau

“E ʻoluʻolu e hui pū me mākou” - or simply stated: PLEASE JOIN US for an authentic Hawaiian Luau on Friday, August 18th, at 4:00pm.

Waukegan Township

Aloha Chicago Entertainment will showcase their Polynesian Revue. Come ready to learn dances, feast on an authentic pig roast and embrace the Hawaiian Island vibes. Registration for this event is required. Please call the Center at 847-244-9242.

Walk for Seniors 2023

Rounding out our summer schedule will be our popular Rock & Stroll Volume II, Walk for Seniors. The event takes place on Saturday, September 9th, beginning with registration at 9:00am and the Walk immediately stepping off at 10:00am. This year we will continue our Walk-to-Win Team Challenge. To participate, get a group of friends, family, coworkers, organization, or church members to form a team. Let’s see if your team has what it takes to beat last year’s winner, Waukegan Baptist Bible. To qualify, each team member will need to complete an individual registration, including the $40 registration fee with their team’s name on the registration form. All paid registrants will receive a Walk for Seniors T-shirt, participation medal and lunch. If you’re unable to attend this year’s event, but still want to show your support, tax deductible donations are accepted and go directly towards providing programing for those 55+ at the PAJ Center.

Summer heat can be difficult for many, so remember to stop by your senior neighbors’ and friends’ homes for wellness checks during these hot summer months. As always, the PAJC is one of many cooling centers within the community.

Wednesday, July 12, 2023 - Kenosha Harbor & History Day!

Take a summer day to explore Kenosha, with a closer look at the Kenosha Harbor and its history! Kenosha Harbor is located adjacent to the city’s vibrant downtown area, with an abundance of restaurants, nostalgic streetcars, four amazing museums and numerous fun weekend events throughout the summer. On this trip, you will start your day off at the Kenosha Public Museum, with a self-guided tour learning about its natural sciences, Potawatomi life in Wisconsin, and appreciating beautiful local art. Followed by a lovely lunch at the Boathouse Restaurant. Finish off your exploration in Kenosha with a 75-minute private sail on the Tall Red Witch II, a 1930-design America’s Cup racing yacht replica. On this sail, the captain and crew will offer casual narration regarding sailing and specific details of the Red Witch! The trip fee of $107 includes multi-stop destination , lunch, private sail tour, and roundtrip motorcoach transportation. The trip departs at 9:30 a.m. from the Patricia A. Jones Center and returns by 2:30 p.m.

Wednesday, July 26, 2023 - Chinatown History & Culture Tour

Delve deep into Chinatown history & culture, by bus! This bus tour highlights the Nine Dragon Wall, The Chinatown Mural, Chinatown Square, Wentworth Avenue and a stop at Ping Tom Park. We will stop at Chinatown Square to shop, eat, and admire unique Chinese sculptures! The tour culminates with a unique dumpling making demonstration and a lovely authentic Chinese lunch. The fee of $97 covers round trip transportation, guided tours, demonstrations and lunch. We will depart from the Patricia A. Jones Center at 8:30 am and will return after 2:30 pm.

Our featured performers for this event will be the Shiloh Baptist Church Choir, performing some of gospel greatest hits along with Nov Bros, Latin Gospel Group from Indiana who will perform en Español. We will also feature The Tato Otero Band from Chicago who will perform Bachata and Musica Jibara. The Donny DeMarco Band from Wisconsin will perform some of our favorite Top 40 hits from across several genres of music, along with a little Country & Western. We will conclude with the South Side Soul Kings from Chicago who will dazzle us with Blues, R&B, Funky Soul and Old School Rock. Bring your lawn chairs and sit back and enjoy the wonderful sounds of summer!

To improve strength, balance, and mobility, and to prevent falls in older adults.

Total Body Conditioning is a resistance training class. Equipment required: Chair, weights or two water bottles, two cans and/or a resistance band.

Serenity Stretch is a stretch class for loosening tight muscles. A yoga strap, a long belt or a long towel would be helpful, especially if you’re tight or have limited range of motion.

Chair Workouts are great for those needing to sit for some of the exercises, or hold on to a chair to exercise.

Functional Fitness is a class that covers exercise that helps with everyday movement such as bending down, squatting, reaching and lifting. Legs and shoulders are the primary focus of training.

Cardio Circuit Training consists of doing exercises at stations. You will switch stations after completing a set number of repetitions of an exercise.

A modified Zumba class for active older adults. *Chair Zumba on Tuesdays*

A modified Yoga class for beginners or those with limited mobility.

A mix of Lyengar and Vinyasa, this class focuses on the use of props, (chairs, blocks, straps) to transition into different poses from the floor and/or standing (getting on the floor is not required).

Join us for this 8-week evidence based program, Fit & Strong! This is a community-based, physical activity program. It uses flexibility and strength training, aerobic walking, and health education to promote behavior change in people with osteoarthritis. The goals of Fit & Strong! are to: improve exercise frequency, reduce arthritis-related joint pain and stiffness, increase strength, and improve confidence in ability to exercise.
