Join us for our annual WalkforSeniors The event takes place on Saturday, September 9th, beginning with registration at 9:00am and the Walk immediately stepping off at 10:00am. This year we will continue our Walk-to-Win Team Challenge. To participate, get a group of friends, family, coworkers, organization, or church members to form a team. Let’s see if your team has what it takes to beat last year’s winner! Individual registration of $40, includes a Walk for Seniors T-shirt and participation medal. Entertainment for the WFS will be provided by the Greg Rockingham Trio with lunch provided by Taquizas Escobar
If you’re unable to attend this year’s event, but want to show your support, tax deductible donations are accepted and go directly towards providing programing for those 55+ at the PAJ Center.
Breast Cancer Memorial Program October is Breast Cancer Awareness
Month, an annual campaign to raise awareness about the impact of breast cancer. Join us on Tuesday, October 3rd, as we welcome the YWCA Metropolitan Chicago, in celebration of the “No One Fights Alone” breast cancer awareness event. In addition to survivor testimonials, and exhibitors on hand providing information on breast cancer, this event will have a powerful keynote speaker. Be sure to reserve your space - light refreshments and giveaways will also be provided.

Valentino Winery Tour, Wine Tasting, & Seminar

Unwind, taste and take in the notes of Valentino Vineyards & Winery! Come not only taste but receive a guided tour and seminar on how this winery produces more than 20 different types of wine from 20 different varieties of grapevine. Valentino Vineyard grapes are harvested, crushed, fermented, barrel aged in fine quality French & American oak barrels, and are bottled in this 20 Acre Estate Vineyard & Winery. The trip fee of $117 includes roundtrip motorcoach transportation, wine tasting, winery tours & seminars, and a lovely lunch at Joanie’s Pizzeria. The trip departs at 8:30 am from the Patricia A. Beer & Bikes Tour

Discover the bikes and beer culture and history through stories, exhibits, and guided tours! This guided tour highlights an unrivaled collection of Harley-Davidson® motorcycles and memorabilia on two floors of exhibits, one-of-a-kind shopping and dining at the Motor Bar and Restaurant. Afterwards, experience old world charm and Gemütlichkeit at its finest and get a taste of Pabst Best Place Beer. Relive this colorful history as you learn how the Best and Pabst families grew the brewery to become America's largest in 1874. The roots of the Pabst Brewing Co. run deep in Milwaukee's proud brewing history. The fee of $137 covers roundtrip motorcoach transportation, museum entry, exhibits, guided tours, beer, and lunch. The trip departs at 8:30 am from the Patricia A. Jones Center and will return after 3:30 pm.

The National Museum of the American Sailor & Russell Military History Museum

Join us for an immersive experience appreciating military history at The National Museum of the American Sailor and the Russell Military Museum, both local to Lake County. The National American Sailor Museum honors the American Sailor’s unwavering and patriotic allegiance to “Honor, Courage, Commitment”. At our next stop, we will have a lovely lunch at a local restaurant. To conclude, we will stop at the Russell Military Museum. The Russell Military Museum is dedicated to educating the public about the conflicts and wars the US has weathered. This museum is home to jeeps, planes, tanks & rare military vehicles that are on view indoors & outdoors at an 8-acre site. The trip cost of $87 includes museum admissions, lunch, and round-trip motorcoach transportation. This trip departs at 9:40 a.m. and returns by 2:30 p.m.

Tai Ji Quan: Moving for Better Balance ®

The program objective for TJQMBB is to improve strength, balance, and mobility, and prevent falls in older adults and individuals with balance disorders. This program was developed by a team of researchers at the Oregon Research Institute. The program uses eight forms that have been derived from the traditional 24-form Yang-style Tai Chi, and progresses from easy to difficult. Research has shown that there is a 58% reduction in falls and 75% reduction in injurious falls in older adults who complete this program. This programs runs for six months. Lung Cancer Prevention
Friday, October 6, 2023 City of Hope will bring information to make you aware that although there is no way to definitively prevent lung cancer, there are steps you can take to reduce your risk. This includes minimizing your exposure to chemicals known to cause cancer, like arsenic, asbestos and radon. If you are a smoker, quitting the use of tobacco products is one of the most effective steps you can take to prevent cancer.

Take Charge: Chronic Kidney Disease Series
Starts September 29, 2023 - every Thursday for 8-weeks

Take Charge (chronic kidney disease workshop) is a small-group chronic disease self-management workshop. Classes take place weekly, over 8 weeks, and cover a variety of tools to help participants manage their chronic conditions. The final two weeks of the class are kidney specific and review basic information about kidney disease as well as an expert panel of medical professionals to answer any questions. To improve strength, balance, and mobility, and to prevent falls in older adults.
Total Body Conditioning is a resistance training class. Equipment required: Chair, weights or two water bottles, two cans and/or a resistance band.
Serenity Stretch is a stretch class for loosening tight muscles. A yoga strap, a long belt or a long towel would be helpful, especially if you’re tight or have limited range of motion.
Chair Workouts are great for those needing to sit for some of the exercises, or hold on to a chair to exercise.
Functional Fitness is a class that covers exercise that helps with everyday movement such as bending down, squatting, reaching and lifting. Legs and shoulders are the primary focus of training.
Cardio Circuit Training consists of doing exercises at stations. You will switch stations after completing a set number of repetitions of an exercise.
A modified Zumba class for active older adults. *Chair Zumba on Tuesdays*
A modified Yoga class for beginners or those with limited mobility.
A mix of Lyengar and Vinyasa, this class focuses on the use of props, (chairs, blocks, straps) to transition into different poses from the floor and/or standing (getting on the floor is not required).

Join us for this 8-week evidence based program, Fit & Strong! This is a community-based, physical activity program. It uses flexibility and strength training, aerobic walking, and health education to promote behavior change in people with osteoarthritis. The goals of Fit & Strong! are to: improve exercise frequency, reduce arthritis-related joint pain and stiffness, increase strength, and improve confidence in ability to exercise.
