PAJC Journal May and June 2023

Page 1

Dear Waukegan Township Family & Friends,

There is so much to celebrate during the months of May and June. Not only are we able to celebrate warmer weather, but May is observed as “Older American Month”. The ACL’s (Aging for Community Living) theme for this year is “Aging Unbound”. Th theme allows us to explore an array of aging experiences without being boxed in by expectations and stereotypes.

Holidays & Celebrations

We will also celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 14th, which honors the special nurturers and caregivers in our lives for their contributions to our families, communities, and society; Father’s Day, Sunday, June 18th recognizing Dads and all father figures for their impact on and presence in our lives; Memorial Day will be observed on Monday, May 29th, in homage to our fallen heroes.

Monday, June 19th we as a community will celebrate Juneteenth. The holiday acknowledges the end of slavery in the U.S. and celebrates African American freedom. Lastly, we will celebrate the Summer solstice on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at 10:58 a.m.

Construction at the PAJC

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Illinois Senator Adriane Johnson for the Capital Improvement grant that was provided to the Patricia A. Jones Center, Eddie Washington Center and the Staben House. Also, Legat Architects, Inc. & Manusos General Contracting, Inc. for the wonderful work that was done on each of these facilities. See the work done at the PAJC on page 4 of this edition. If you haven’t seen the beautiful changes to these locations, be sure to stop by the Center to see them in person.
