Coalition to Reduce Recidivism’s Criminal Justice Scholarship

To be eligible for the scholarship, you must meet all of the following criteria: • • • • • • • • • •

Currently enrolled in undergraduate courses or entering college for the first time in the upcoming academic year. This scholarship is open to all areas of study.

Open to all levels of grade point average.

Must be a U.S. citizen and resident of Lake County, Illinois.

Must be a family member of a person currently in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Family members is limited to only the following: mother, father, brother, sister, grandparent, children or legal guardian.

Must submit an official high school and/or college transcript.

Must submit a resume, cover letter and completed application form.

Must enroll at an Illinois school of higher learning as a full-time undergraduate student.

Must be a registered voter, providing that you are at least 18 years of age at time of application submission. Must submit proof of voter registration.

Must have a history of extracurricular activities that demonstrates a willingness to accept leadership responsibilities or commitment to civic responsibility, social consciousness and a willingness to serve the community. (student government, club officer, etc/community service projects, volunteer activities with local service agencies or charitable institutions, etc) Must submit a 250-word essay on “How can an advanced degree help impact your family as well as combat recidivism ?”

2018 Family Member Scholarship Application

Cover Letter: The student applicant must submit a cover letter requesting consideration of his/her scholarship application.

Scholarship Application: All sections of this application must be completed. The student must sign and date the scholarship application Essay: The student must prepare and submit a 250-word essay on “How can an advanced degree help impact your family as well as combat recidivism?”

Transcripts: Submit an official high school/college/university transcript indicating your most recent academic work (after being awarded the scholarship, receiving it is contingent on the submission of your Fall 2017 semester transcripts).

Letter of Recommendation: The student must submit three (3) letters of recommendation. One must be from am academic source.

Since the inception of the Coalition To Reduce Recidivism, the mission of the Coalition has been to empower returning citizens of Lake County through employment opportunities as well as, empowering returning citizens by providing educational opportunities and advancement. The Coalition Criminal Justice Scholarship Fund was created.
