In November the traditions of election day, Veterans Day, and Thanksgiving have become part of the fabric of our lives. On November 4th, please exercise your right to vote. The 2014 election will bring a roster of outstanding candidates for office at the local and national level. Many Americans celebrate the tradition of Veterans Day and believe that it’s a day America sets aside to honor American military personnel who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained from combat. That's not quite true. Memorial Day is the day set aside to honor America's war dead. Veterans Day, on the other hand, honors ALL American veterans, both living and dead. In fact, Veterans Day is largely intended to thank LIVING veterans for dedicated and loyal service to their country. We want to ensure veterans that we deeply appreciate the sacrifices they have made to keep our country free. Please join us on November 8th - Noon at Park Place to Honor & Celebrate our VETERANS and those men & women who currently serve in this nation's Armed Forces. This is a complimentary event for veterans and their families. Lunch will be served. Also, bring in your new or gently used winter coats to Park Place for our Veterans Coat Drive. Please RSVP by November 3rd. Did you know that lack of awareness about diabetes, combined with insufficient access to health services, can lead to complications such as blindness, amputation and kidney failure? Park Place has an annual tradition of supporting the American Diabetes Awareness Month. We host the Annual Eddie Washington Diabetes Forum with no charge to the public. We understand that managing a chronic condition like diabetes can feel overwhelming at times. Having to watch what you eat, stay active, take your meds and check your blood sugar can get to you.
The speakers for the Eddie Washington Diabetes Forum can give you the information you need. Please join us on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm, at Park Place, 414 S. Lewis Avenue, Waukegan. Celebrate the tradition of Thanksgiving Day and reflect on all the blessings in your life. Please Save The Date of Friday, December 5, 2014. Waukegan Township invites you to “A Home for the Holidays”. This is our annual fundraiser for the Staben House and Eddie Washington Center. This year’s honorees include: Caring Women's Connection, Sign of the Dove Church, Village Quilters, Prince of Peace Church in Gurnee, Shiloh Baptist (Soup Kitchen & Priscilla Circle), 1st Midwest Bank, YWCA, St. Anastasia's, Rep. Rita Mayfield, United Methodist Church of Libertyville. Please join us on December 14th - 2pm at Park Place for our Park Place Holiday Party. This is a complimentary and lunch will be served. Highlights will include our own “Senior Idol” Karaoke style and our guest singing Santa. Also, please join us on January 19, 2015 for our annual Martin Luther King Celebration. The Keynote speaker will be Bishop Cornelius Woods from Mobile AL and the event will take place at The Ramada Inn. Let’s come together to honor the legacy of this great civil rights leader. Remember, take time to let your family and friends know that you love them. Smile and be cheerful, have the "positive mental attitude" and wear it proudly; this might help make people feel a little more loved by you then usual. Thank you to our vendors Congri and El Ranchito participation
