AuctionGala‘24

Dear Friends,
Looking back 100 years, it’s remarkable how far we ’ ve come. In the 1920s, the most common way to travel to New York from California was by boat, and technically, it was legal to mail your kids via US Postal Service large parcel shipping until 1920. But a lot remains the same, too.
The Roaring Twenties marked a period of profound transformation following the First World War, ushering in a spirit of innovation, technological advancements, and cultural and social movements. The rise of social gatherings like speakeasies fostered a sense of collective celebration with the popularity of jazz music and dance. The Harlem Renaissance produced writers, poets, visual artists, and intellectuals who still enrich our lives today.
Our 2024 Auction Gala, Ain’t Misbehavin’, celebrates the spirit of that cultural explosion as we come together as a community to celebrate, dine, and dance. We offer our thanks to our amazing Auction Co-Chairs, Sharon D’Emidio, Allison Marvin, Vicki Panchal, and Sandy Vogelman, who have designed this evening of glitz and glam so we may support a cause that is near and dear to our hearts – the education of our children.

This catalog will guide you through the event: the schedule, the menu, and all the unique and delightful items that will be up for bid in our Silent Auction. Over dinner, the excitement builds when the professional auctioneer begins the Live Auction and our “Raise Your Paddle” appeal Dancing and merriment will follow as we hit the dance floor to the music of a live band
This year ’ s “Raise Your Paddle” highlights another common thread between the 1920s and the 2020s -- the importance of dedicated space that inspires curiosity and learning New library furniture with a more modern, mobile design will improve the learning experience for all our Dragons – from PK3 through Grade 8. In fact, our entire community – faculty, staff, families, and guests will enjoy the atmosphere of this redesigned flexible space.
Please take a moment to see the lists of patrons, sponsors, donors, advertisers, and contributors whose generosity makes this evening possible. We are incredibly proud of the generosity of this community.
We look forward to a fabulous evening.
Danny Vogelman Jeff Tignor Head of School Chair, Board of Trustees

A Letter from the Co-Chairs
Dear Divine Dames & Fancy Fellas,
Welcome to the WES Auction Gala, Ain’t Misbehavin’ –A Night of 1920s Glitz & Glam! We hope you ’ re as jazzed as we are to get your glad rags on and celebrate our wonderful school. This year ’ s theme captivated
us in more ways than one. Of course, the Roaring Twenties perfected the art of having a good time, but the era also embodied broader ways of thinking, cultural pursuits, and self-determination. At WES, our students reflect these ideals as they embrace learning, challenge themselves with new experiences, and discover who they are in a joyful learning environment. It’s a gift to come together as a community, to revel in each other’s company, and to recognize the unique spirit that defines this place. After all, WES is the best joint in town.
It’s been an absolute hoot to serve as your Auction Co-Chairs this year. This evening wouldn’t have come to fruition without the swanky Development Office team –Bronwyn Roy, Ali Bratun, and Na’Kia Simpson – whose talent, energy, and patience are beyond compare. We’re also indebted to our hotsy totsy crew of volunteers. Wow! Your time and creativity turned vision into reality.
And we offer a big thank you to this year ’ s sponsors, patrons, advertisers, donors, and attendees. Your support has made this event possible, and your generosity is deeply appreciated.
Finally, we recognize our dear faculty and staff. None of this effort would make a lick of difference if it weren’t for you. Thank you for sharing your expertise, dedication, and joy at WES each and every day.
So, now, let’s gather under the glimmering lights and raise our paddles so that our children have the resources they need to craft their own roaring chapters.
See you at The 5600 Club, the hottest party this side of the Mississippi!
P.S. Don't forget the secret password! We'll whisper it in your ear closer to the date.

2. Upon purchase, the buyer waives any claim for liability against either Washington Episcopal School (WES) or the donor of the property/services. Neither the school nor the donor is responsible for any personal injury or damage to property that may result from the use of the property/services sold.
3. Winners must complete settlement the night of the Auction, either using the credit card on file with OneCause or by check as previously arranged with the Development Office. All winners must be prepared to present paid invoices before removal of items.
4. The settlement desk will be open no earlier than the conclusion of the Live Auction and will accept cash, Venmo, personal check, VISA, MasterCard, or American Express. All items must be paid in full and removed from the premises by the conclusion of settlement on the evening of the Live Auction. Large items, for which special arrangements are needed, must be picked up by Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
6. Bids can be split on multiple purchasers’ accounts. Purchasers must inform the Development Office how they would like to split payment of an Auction item by 8 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 by email (nasimpson@w-e-s.org). If applicable, tax receipts will be issued to each purchaser.
7. Any requests to duplicate an Auction item must be approved by the Development Office prior to the sale of that item.
8. Unless otherwise specified, all Auction items must be used within one year of the event - by March 2, 2025. Unless otherwise specified, dates and times are to be arranged at the mutual convenience of the donor and buyer. Requests to extend use of an item past one year must be approved by the Development Office.

Auction Rules
9. Unless otherwise specified, commercial trips and vacations require advance reservations and are on a "space available" basis. Resort accommodations and vacation homes are offered to families and adults, unless otherwise specified, and minors must be accompanied by adults.
10. Restaurant certificates must be presented at time of use and do not include gratuity, tax, or alcoholic beverages, unless otherwise specified. Please note expiration date on certificates. May not be redeemed for cash.

13. In the event of added items and/or edited descriptions, please refer to the online listings at https://one.bidpal.net/aintmisbehavin for all Silent and Live Auction items.
Silent Auction
1. Items offered in the Silent Auction will be bid on exclusively through the auction mobile and online interface. Guests will receive an email and text prior to the start of bidding with a link to the interface. Click the link and follow the directions to place bids. Instructions on using mobile bidding can be found at https://one.bidpal.net/aintmisbehavin
2. Finding Items: Press the buttons on the main menu or use the search bar to find a specific category or item.
3. How to Bid: Find the item, select it, then press "Bid."

Auction Rules
What is "Max Bid"?: After submitting a bid, you will be prompted to set a Max Bid and OneCause will automatically bid on your behalf up to the Max Bid amount using the bid increments provided. You will receive a text message when you have been outbid. Alternatively, you can navigate to "Your Activity" to check the status of your bid.
5. "Your Activity" can be found at Menu> Your Activity and will show the items you have bid on and the status of your bid.
6. Guaranteed Bids: Certain items offered for Silent Auction have been assigned "Guaranteed Bid" values. The first bidder who wishes to guarantee winning an item available for Guaranteed Bid may do so on the interface. Once a Guaranteed Bid amount has been reached, all bidding on the item ceases and no other bidders may bid above the Guaranteed Bid amount on that item.
7. Bidding in each section of the Silent Auction continues until the section is closed according to the times posted.
8. Winners must pick up their invoice from Settlement/Check- Out prior to taking any items home.
Live Auction
1. One bid paddle will be waiting for each person or couple at their table for use during the Live Auction.
2. During the Live Auction, a number of special items will be offered for bidding. Each item will be described and a starting bid amount will be given. A bid acknowledged by the Auctioneer in the Live Auction is a legal contract to purchase the item. In the Silent Auction, a designation of the top bid by the Silent Auction mobile interface is a legal contract to purchase that item.

The bidder should raise their bid paddle to signal to the Auctioneer, or spotter whose job it is to relay bids to the Auctioneer, that they are entering a bid.

Auction Rules
4. The highest bidder acknowledged by the Auctioneer will be the buyer. In the event of any dispute, the Auctioneer will have sole and final discretion to determine the successful bidder or to re-offer and resell the item in dispute. The Auctioneer reserves the right to reject any bid that, in his opinion, is not commensurate with the value of the offered item upon the receipt of payment.
5. On the "fall of the Auctioneer's hammer," title of the item passes to the highest bidder.
6. If unable to attend the Auction Gala, absentee bidding can be arranged through the Development Office prior to the event.
Raise Your Paddle (RYP)
All gifts are welcomed and appreciated and are 100% tax-deductible. Your pledge will be charged to your account and will appear on your invoice that will be generated at the end of the Auction. The school retains the right to reallocate funds as needed.

Raffles
Any raffle will be subject to rules and regulations governing raffles in the state of Maryland.
Only 100 Best of Live raffle tickets will be sold. Any remaining tickets will be sold during the Silent Auction. The winning ticket will be drawn at the beginning of the Live Auction. The winner will receive the Live Auction item indicated on his/her ticket, and that item will be withdrawn before the start of the Live Auction on Saturday night, March 2.

Abstract Painting by Jennifer LogunUntitled, by WES Mom Jennifer Logun (Lukanic), is a 20x20", flat acrylic painting on linen canvas. It is housed in a float frame made of poplar and ready to hang. Jennifer’s current work is an ongoing series of paintings that weave actual and invented spaces with rigorous surface and volume color study. Untitled, in particular, is derived from photographs that capture day-to-day observations of light and shadow. Jennifer’s interest in the intersection between color and three-dimensional space emerged while pursuing her Masters of Architecture degree. As she began to paint 10 years ago, she fell into using a combination of architectural and painterly techniques, and, as a result, created a style that is all her own. Jennifer’s architectural work has been featured in several publications and her emerging artist work has been included in both gallery and online shows. www.jenniferlogun.com
