Past Project Recap
December 2nd was one of the best projects of the month, Santa’s Workshop! This project in collaboration with our school’s Student Government allows elementary students to feel a sense of independence and get their loved ones holiday gifts. In preparation for Santa’s Workshop, members were taught how to gift wrap. Before the project started, members prepared their tables with gift-wrapping essentials. Throughout the event, members wore a smile on their faces while getting to know each child. After wrapping presents like Santa’s elves. This annual project of wrapping presents is such a delight and we should continue it again. Happy Holidays!

GYM BEAUTIFICATION: 12/11
On December 11th, Waiakea Key Club partnered up with their school’s Leo Club to beautify the school gym and campus. Members cleaned and painted the benches and walls surrounding the gym our signature blue color. This project was our club’s single service project and we were recognized in our school’s morning announcements for our service! This project is one of the few combined projects with a service club not under K-Family and was a project the day after the fun winter ball. We couldn’t have done it without you guys!

Throughout the week of December 12 to 15, Waiakea Key Club members built their Twinkling Hale out of cardboard. Our school was having a school-wide competition during Winter Spirit Week in which our club decided to participate. So, for Twinkling Thursday, members planned and organized, gathered materials, spray painted, glued, sparkled, and more to build the hale! We should definitely do this project again because it’s great for the holiday spirit and we won second place!

UH BASKETBALL TOURNEY: 12/18 - 12/19
On Monday, December 19th, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Waiakea High School Key Club helped Vulcan Athletics of UHH in their Basketball Tournament. That day, it was Girls’ basketball, and 6 mainland teams played. Members helped mop the court of sweat in-between plays, during time outs, and in-between quarters. Occasionally, the referee would call upon us to mop the court if a player fell and left the floor so slippery that it became a hazard for other players. The games that day were played at the Civic Center. It was nice for our club to help the Vulcans because they are right across the street, and many Waiakea High School students graduate to attend UHH. Overall, the project was successful as the coaches, staff, referees, and players showed their appreciation for us as we helped make the games safer.

On Wednesday, December 21st, Waiakea Key Club assisted in bell ringing for the Salvation Army at the East Puainako KTA Shopping Center. During this project, members were situated at both entrances of the store and greeted customers outside the doors, ringing bells at those who chose to generously donate to the cause. Our club took the first shift of the project, which lasted from 10 to 12 AM, before handing it off to another club. Overall, this project was a success as we were able to receive many donations from kind patrons that helped the Salvation Army.
