BROADLAND CHESS CLUB

A Record-Breaking Night! With the relaxation of Covid restrictions, Broadland chess club has returned to over-the-board chess at its new home venue, the Horstead Tithe Barn, with matches and tournaments taking place every Tuesday evening. But online chess has not been completely forsaken! Tuesday 25th January was a record-breaking night for the club with seven teams in action at the same time! Broadland Kestrels drew 2 – 2 with Stroud in division 1 of the national online league and six teams were playing in the Friendly Cup at the Tithe Barn. This was an opportunity for members of the junior club to play adults in a competitive but friendly environment. The final scores were: Broadland Hawkers 5.5 Broadland Grebes 0.5 Broadland Kingfishers 4.5 Broadland Buzzards 1.5 Broadland Otters 4 Broadland Hares 0 On Monday evenings, members of the junior club are playing in the UK Chess Challenge at Vera’s Coffee Shop at Wayford Bridge. The tournament is the largest in the world with between 40,000 and 50,000 entrants. In the Broadland qualifying tournament the leaders after two of the seven rounds are Gabriel McNamara and Ruthven Ridley.
