WINTER DOLDRUMS It’s winter, again, and all too easy to sit inside, eat a lot of carbohydrates and not exercise. But taking just a few moments a day to stretch your whole body, go outside even for a few minutes, and eat some vegetables and or fruits can make a big difference in your mood!
HELPING RESIDENTS EAT WELL This past year you probably received calls about fresh vegetables available for free from Whiting Farm in Auburn, and distributed by Androscoggin County Gleaners for PVA, PC and WSH residents. We will be collaborating again in 2019! Many people in the area are familiar with Whiting Farm that has been producing flowers and fresh vegetables to the community for many years, but who and what is Androscoggin County Gleaners?

Androscoggin County Gleaners is a “team dedicated to connecting people through volunteerism to alleviate food insecurity and local food waste in our county. We work with farms, volunteers and food access sites to harvest surplus produce and deliver to people who can use it.” The crop changes every week, some weeks there are zucchini, summer squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, even egg plants and green beans. The fresh food is always changing and always fresh and delicious!
Talking about death Though we live in a society based in the freedom of speech, there are many things we do not talk about. One of the things we rarely talk about is death, despite many people often wanting an opportunity to discuss death in a safe, thoughtful and open setting. Luckily there is an opportunity in an international movement known as Death Café. What is a Death Café? It is a group of people who gather to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death. The 1
