Hello All,

We hope everyone had a fantastic summer and is now ready to get back to your regular schedule. We are working hard to provide more opportunities for the JCC to fit into and enhance your weekly routine as well as help you break out and try something new. As the leadership of the JCC, we will be spending the coming months evaluating our current offerings and program delivery with a focus on providing high quality, leading edge programs and services. We recognize that in the past some of our offerings have been canceled for low registration which we know can be frustrating. We will be improving our outreach and communication to increase registration as well as being more selective in what programs we launch. We hope this will provide a much better experience for our members and class participants. This fall, there are a lot of fantastic opportunities to enrich your lives, have fun, learn, improve your health and be connected. Some highlights that you willl find in this program guide are a trip to Historic Jewish Los Angeles, the always popular Jr. Suns & Jr. Mercury basketball leagues, Israel Movie Series, the premiere of the locally produced film “Road to Eden”, our renowned swim team and masters swim program and the many other youth and adult offerings. Also be sure to check out our new offerings with our Club J program and our Early Childhood Center. As we begin the celebration of our 60th anniversary of the JCC, we celebrate our past and plan for a vibrant future. Be sure to mark your calendars for the JCC’s 60th Anniversary Gala on November 16th. We look forward to seeing you around the JCC.

Kid Fit Tennis

Youth Sports Phoenix Rush Soccer Club Mighty Rush Soccer Program is a unique opportunity to introduce your child to soccer. It is an eight week program which is run in conjunction with our Phoenix Rush Soccer Club. Mighty Rush will give your child a great start to this lifetime sport and will also prepare them for Rush U-5 developmental indoor soccer league which starts in April. The idea is to introduce children to the game of soccer by developing their motor skills, ball skills, and concepts of small sided games. The emphasis is very firmly on FUN! We feel that kids will be more comfortable and develop faster in this type of environment. Each child will receive a Mighty Rush T-shirt.

12

Kid Fit Tennis is a unique, exciting, and innovative approach to tennis instruction. With the use of revolutionary mobile kits and specially designed equipment for young children, the Kid Fit Tennis coaching team transforms the gym into a dynamic tennis environment. Kid Fit Tennis encourages cooperation, enhances motor skills, and builds self-esteem while teaching children proper tennis skills, including forehand and backhand ground strokes, overheads, and volleys. All equipment is provided. Session 1 12 Classes | Tuesdays & Thursdays September 10 - October 24 No Classes September 19 and 26 Ages 5 - 6 | 3:30 - 4:20 pm Ages 7 - 9 | 4:30 - 5:20 pm M: $120 NM: $180 Code: SY02A Session 2 12 Classes | Tuesdays & Thursdays October 28 - December 12 No Classes November 26 and 28 Ages 5 - 6 | 3:30 - 4:20 pm Ages 7 - 9 | 4:30 - 5:20 pm M: $120 NM: $180 Code: SY02B

10 and Under Tennis follows the same logic as other youth sports like baseball or soccer, which use kid-sized courts and kid-sized equipment. Kids learn to play baseball by first playing T-ball; they use shorter, lighter bats and larger, softer balls. Kids learning basketball shoot baskets with kid-sized balls on lowered backboards and they play soccer on smaller fields with smaller goals. Now with 10 and Under Tennis, balls bounce lower, don’t move as fast through the air and are easier to hit. Racquets are sized for small hands and courts are smaller and easier to cover. By using this format, the benefits are immediate and within a short time kids are rallying, playing, and excited to keep playing. That means kids will have more fun and less frustration. They’re playing real tennis and having real fun—and that’s what is most important. Session 1 | 8 Classes | Mondays | Code: SY01A September 9 - October 28 4:00 - 4:45 pm Session 2 | 8 Classes | Mondays | Code: SY01B November 4 - December 16 4:00 - 4:45 pm FREE for Club J Participants M: $25 | NM: $50

Ajami 2009 / 120min October 10 7pm M:$5 NM:$8 Code: ISM1 Teaming with Palestinian illegal immigrants, Israeli Arabs, Christians and Jews, Ajami is a cloistered urban neighborhood as treacherous and potentially deadly as the front lines of Gaza. When a Bedouin extortionist is gunned down in self defense, a teenager is mistakenly killed in retribution, and an entire Arab family faces extinction. Under the same roof, a young Palestinian risks his life and freedom to pay for treatment that would save his dying mother. Out on the streets, a Jewish cop preys on the local drug trade by night while searching for his missing brother by day. Enemy, neighbor, or both, everyone in Ajami runs the same risk of death, arrest and heartbreak.

Beaufort

2007/126 min. December 11 | 7pm M:$5 NM:$8 | Code: iSM2 After 18 years dug into a heavily fortified mountain deep in occupied Lebanon, the last Israeli soldiers enduring constant bombardment at the site of the ancient crusader stronghold called Beaufort receive orders to abandon their posts, detonate the warren of bunkers in which they’ve tenuously clung to life and victory, and come home. Amid redoubled shelling from Hezbollah, the fort’s brash, impossibly young commander Liraz (Oshri Cohen) struggles to keep himself and his men safe from a faceless enemy that would turn withdrawal into massacre, and transform a just cause into a lost cause.

Under Water Hockey Thursdays | 7:30 - 9:15 pm Underwater hockey is a fast moving game that quickly builds swimming and free diving capability. It is played on the bottom of a 6-8 feet swimming pool by two teams of six. Players wear fins, mask, snorkel, a protective glove and headgear (the same kind as for water polo). Play and strategy is similar to soccer or ice hockey except that the playing surface is at the bottom of a pool. The rules are "noncontact" and players generally cover zones around the puck. The sport offers great crosstraining for scuba divers, runners, swimmers, and bikers. Plus, because it's non-contact and underwater, people of different sizes and genders play on an equal field. Practices are open to men and women of all ages. Beginners are always welcome. Free for members
