Junior Maccabi Team

Joining the JCC youth sports league will entitle athletes ages 11 - 13 to become a part of our Junior Maccabi team program. The Junior Maccabi team consists of players, many of whom join the JCC Maccabi team. Junior Maccabi athletes will train while playing against competition at their level in order to build the essential skills to join future Maccabi teams. For more information about becoming a Junior Maccabi athlete please contact Alex Sachs at alexs@vosjcc.org

This past summer, Team Phoenix took 24 athletes to participate in this historical event in Israel. Our team consists of boys’ soccer, boys’ basketball, girls’ volleyball, swimming and tennis. Not only did they participate in competitive sports, they toured and learned about their Jewish heritage. JCC Maccabi Games are an Olympic-style sporting competition held each summer in North America. Since their inception in 1982, the JCC Maccabi Games has grown from a small pilot project in one host community to an Olympic-style sporting competition held each summer in multiple sites throughout North America. The combined games are the largest organized sports program for Jewish teenagers in the world. Today, close to 5000 teens participate in the JCC Maccabi Games each summer. JCC Maccabi ArtsFest began in 2006 in Baltimore, Maryland. It is a week-long arts experience for creative Jewish teens entering 8th-12th grades. It features home hospitality, includes opening and closing events, workshops, performances, exhibits, community service, and social activities, while it strengthens bonds to Jewish heritage, community and Israel.

Each delegation participated in different community service/social action projects in the city of Kiriyat Shmona. This is not new, the athletes and artists take a break from their sports and arts to complete a community project. In conjunction with the Days of Caring and Sharing, each athlete/artist will be asked to bring an item to contribute for a tzedakah project. This year we will be collecting school supplies for the kindergarten‘s in Kiriyat Shmona. These supplies will be distributed during the Days of Caring and Sharing program by the athletes to the schools in Kiriyat Shmona. For more information 2012 JCC Maccabi Games and ArtsFest contact alexs@vosjcc.org.
