MEET JAYE ‘LETTA J’ WATTS
Founder of Coexist Gaming and Grammy nominated musician For more information visit coexistgamingcom letajmusiccom
BY TRACY CHILES MCGHEE
PHOTOS JAYE WATTS
n a world where representation often feels like an afterthought, Jaye “Letta J” Watts is rewriting the narrative As a Grammy-winning artist, founder of Coexists Game House, and owner of Proud Wineaux,
Watts is a disruptor in the truest sense, combining her passions for music, gaming, and wine to empower Black and Brown communities
Her story begins in a small home in South Dallas, where childhood gaming sessions laid the foundation for a life dedicated to creating spaces of connection and opportunity
Watts’ introduction to gaming was both humbling and profound. Her stepfather, a hardworking small business owner and pastor, brought home a Nintendo console when she was only four years old A gift that he’d received from one of his moving clients in Highland Park
“My stepfather moved a lot of wealthy families, and they would give him things they didn’t need anymore,” she recalls “That’s how we got that Nintendo”
It was a game-changer literally and figuratively
At the time, her family had relocated from the Dominican Republic to Texas, where she found herself navigating a new culture and language
She shared, “In the South, people put you in boxes If you spoke Spanish, you were Mexican If you were Black with an accent, you were Jamaican It could be very isolating”
Gaming became her bridge to the community With that console, her extended family’s home became a gathering spot for neighborhood kids, where differences in language and culture faded as they connected over Super Mario Brothers and Street Fighter “It didn’t matter that I didn’t speak English well or that I was a girl. The question was could you fulfill the mission of the game? Gaming was the great equalizer,” she says Looking back, Watts realized those early gaming sessions were more than just fun they were her first taste of building a world where everyone felt included
For Jaye Watts, gaming wasn’t her only love. Music was her first language, and by age five, she was playing the violin By 11, she’d mastered the viola, cello, and piano Singing in church and writing her own songs, she dreamed of Juilliard and a life dedicated to her art.
That dream came true in many ways she earned a Grammy singing before thousands around the world as the youngest member of the Potter’s House award-winning gospel choir. xxxxx
Watts’ also gained experience working in food and beverage over the course of twenty years, at Michelin-starred restaurants like French Laundry and JeanGeorges, which deepened her love for wine She became a certified sommelier and eventually launched Proud Wineaux, a wine education platform that centers Black and Brown women. She added, “Wine, like gaming and music, is about storytelling, it brings people together and creates moments of connection That’s what I’m always chasing connection”
Watts’ vision took form with the founding of Coexists Game House, a subscription-based gaming platform with a mission that extends far beyond playing games Coexists is a tool for representation, economic empowerment, and communitybuilding. She shared, “The gaming industry is bigger than music, film, and sports combined Out of 3 billion gamers worldwide, half are women Yet the industry doesn’t reflect that Black and Brown people are barely at the table, let alone in decision-making roles.” xxx
Coexists aims to change that. By creating a space where gamers, creators, and entrepreneurs can come together, she is laying the groundwork for a more inclusive industry The statistics are staggering: the gaming industry is worth over $200 billion, and $100 billion of that comes from mobile gaming, where women dominate at 65% Yet representation in executive leadership remains negligible
She expressed, “when we don’t create intellectual property, our stories don’t get told Representation is about creating pathways for Black writers, voice actors, producers, and developers. That’s where real change happens”
Watts envisions Coexists as a pipeline for these opportunities Members are encouraged to host their own events, from workshops to panels, fostering a sense of ownership and agency And with affordable options like $20 day passes, Coexists ensures accessibility remains at the core of its mission
While Coexists currently operates out of New York, Watts has her eyes set on expansion Plans are underway for locations in Newark, Detroit, Atlanta, and Los Angeles, with a long-term goal of bringing Coexists to countries in Africa and the Dominican Republic
When asked about expanding, Watts said, “I want to bring gaming to underdeveloped areas, not just as entertainment but as a driver for infrastructure Gaming requires the highest levels of bandwidth and processing power, which means investments in digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, and education We need to go beyond just playing the games it’s about creating them and building the systems to sustain them”
Jaye Watts’ love for wine has become another avenue for connection and empowerment With Proud Wineaux, she is creating a space for Black and Brown women to explore wine culture in ways that feel inclusive and welcoming
At the heart of all her ventures, Watts is driven by a desire to inspire the next generation “We’re not outnumbered,” she says “We’re outorganized Together, we can fix that”
Her creative lens allows her to reimagine spaces. She envisions a world where Black and Brown creators are at the helm, crafting stories, building wealth, and shaping the industries that shape culture
“Representation is more than seeing yourself on a screen,” she says “It’s knowing that you belong in the room, at the table, and in the narrative”
From her early days in South Dallas to her current projects in New York and beyond, Jaye “Letta J” Watts has consistently found ways to turn passion into purpose Whether through gaming, wine, or music, she is creating spaces where everyone regardless of their background can feel like they belong. As she puts it, “gaming was my equalizer Now, it’s my platform to make sure no one ever feels unseen”
“Gaming was my equalizer. Now, it’s my platform to make sure no one ever feels unseen ”
“Wine has always been seen as this elitist, exclusive thing,” she says “But we deserve to see ourselves in these spaces too Proud Wineaux is about breaking down those barriers” Through tastings, events, and storytelling, Watts is blending education with entertainment.
The Netflix docuseries “The Future Of” highlights this remarkable transformation, placing Letta J Founder & CEO of Coexist Gaming at its core With a distinctive fusion of talent, visionary leadership, and an unwavering dedication to inclusivity, Letta J is redefining the gaming world in every sense of the word

Meet the talented trio dedicated to quality craft beer, paying it forward, and never giving up on the legacy of craft beer in Harlem Find more information harlemhopscom
The genesis for Harlem Hops began with Kim Harris’ desire to open a business in Harlem; Kevin Bradford’s historical knowledge of craft beer in Detroit and New York, with a dream of opening a brewery; and Stacey Lee's success opening restaurants in Atlanta, GA and a personal feat of opening her own business Before Harris and Bradford met, they had separate journeys visualizing a craft beer business in Harlem Jason Wallace, the restaurant scientist, introduced them because he knew their similar talents and interests in beer Their serendipitous meeting occurred in 2016, and Harlem Hops began
The trio had entrepreneurial experience, Kim Harris is the founder and managing partner of Painting It Red, a New York based event and marketing firm that conceptualizes, plans and produces world-class, multi-million-dollar corporate, entertainment and marketing events Some notable organizations and celebrities within Harris’ network include Southwest Airlines, Ronald McDonald House, Earl “The Pearl” Monroe, Hoop Magic Celebrity All-Star Charity Game, Alonzo Mourning, the National Basketball Retired Players Association, Proctor & Gamble NAMIC, UNCF, and the ASPCA
Stacey Lee graduated from Clark Atlanta University (CAU) and holds the title of Miss Michigan USA 2004 Lee is also a graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology (GIT) with a degree in mathematics and industrial engineering degrees She received her MBA with a concentration in Marketing from CAU in 2008 After college, and during her reign as Miss Michigan USA, Lee helped raise over $100,000 in the fight against breast and ovarian cancer, and also conducted numerous motivational speeches for youth, teens, and women She and her brother, Terry B Lee established The Terry and Sandra Lee Dual Degree Engineering Scholarship in honor of their parents for CAU undergraduate students Some of Lee’s honors for her philanthropic efforts include the Community Service Award from Selfridge Air Force, and Heroes of Breast Cancer Award
Kevin Bradford has a Mathematics degree from Hampton University and is a trained math teacher He looks at his analysis of beer selection as a quantitative equation of variables of quality, exceptional taste, rarity of the batch, geographic radius, and cultural influences He has traveled to South Africa to help develop his tasting palate Bradford is a member of the “Brothers of Beer” club, which has over 1,000 members of beer enthusiasts who visit breweries and bars to enjoy the expansive culinary creations of craft beer. The Harlem Hops trio's strong appreciation of the history of beer's origins prompted them to display a historical legacy wall on the development of beer in Africa in the bar
Harris became more passionate about developing a beer brand after she learned about the origins and styles of beer This included the history of migration from Africa to Europe and then to the United States, where formerly enslaved people helped settlers brew beer Food and culinary historian Toya Hopkins educated Harris on the origins of beer, motivating her unbridled determination to enter the craft beer business
Over the years, Harris traveled t Africa to visit craft beer bars in th central regions and villages that wer developing new beverages Sh traveled to Tanzania, Ethiopia, an Uwanda to sample the local craft beers To expand her knowledge of beer brewing, the unique ingredients, and innovations in the development of beer Bradford has studied the history of craft beer breweries of African Americans in New York and remarks that Garrett Oliver opened Brooklyn Brewery in 1994
prides himself on visiting the breweries and personally selecting the freshest flavors of beers Selections come from little-known breweries, small batches of undistributed beer, and local and international favorites
Harris and Bradford combined their knowledge to create the iconic, Harlem Hops bar. Their partnership has a unique synergy which has made Harlem Hops a success for more than seven years Their collaboration is powerful because they stay in their delineated lanes of expertise with Bradford serving as the restaurant's beer collection curator He has always wanted to bring a collection of his hometown Detroit beers to New York City. He was exposed to the craft beer craze in Detroit, which took off in 1992 and eventually sparked his desire to own a craft beer business
As HBCU grads, Harris, Bradford, and Lee understand the significance of connectivity to history and relationships to build a successful brand and community Lee and Harris are the brand ambassadors who have had a successful history producing events prior to the genesis of Harlem Hops Lee’s responsibilities include marketing and philanthropy efforts She is charged with assessing the restaurant's marketability and opportunities to connect to the Harlem community She engages the community on behalf of Harlem Hops’ charity Harlem Hopes
Harlem Hopes philanthropy efforts have provided over $60,000 in scholarships for students pursuing education at HBCUs; paid rent for some establishments during COVID19; help college students to travel home during COVID-19; exposed children to learn horseback riding in New York; engaged in work with hospitals in New York; and provided surplus hops, grains, and other brewery resources to farms This collaboration with the community embodies their philosophy of giving back to Harlem
Harlem Hops has expanded beyond their original location in Harlem to Chelsea, New York, at Market 57 at Pier 57, housed in the James Beard Curated Space
BY SHELBY STEPHENS PHOTOS: COURTESY OF THE FRANKLIN
Brooklyn, New York has never fallen short in history or culture As one of the city’s newest targets of gentrification, four friends and business partners Hernandez Rhau, Alphonse Janvier, Michael Gittens, and Elliott Bey, are staying true to the neighborhood with The Franklin Wine Bar in Clinton Hill.
The Franklin brings a new, elevated wine and cocktail experience with hospitality at the forefront The company takes pride in its extensive selection of wines, the exciting food menu, and the overall ambiance of the wine bar The Franklin has something for everyone
With over 30 years of friendship Rhau, Janvier, and Gittens decided to go into business together after Gittens acquired the property where The Franklin now resides Former bar owner and entrepreneur Elliott Bey was added into the fold for his notable hospitality experience and willingness to add value to the xxx
company Before the wine bar, the building occupied a black-owned grocery store and liquor store The friends renovated the liquor store and developed Franklin Cellars in 2020 Little did they know this would be the birth of their second venture, The Franklin.
Neighbors and guests alike would buy wine from Franklin Cellars and occasionally stick around to enjoy their purchase The men noticed the connections they were building and almost instinctively leaned into a wine community that would bridge the gap between the old and the new
When asked about Franklin Cellars's inception, Rhau said, “I would watch people come into Franklin Cellars and buy a bottle and instead of leaving they would open it, sit with us, and talk Mike always had the idea of buying back the neighborhood and the first step was securing the building that housed these two commercial spaces and opening the wine shop.
We wanted to come up with another way to be more a part of the neighborhood What if we took it to the next level? That’s where the idea of the wine bar came to fruition We all joined in, pulled our resources, and created this unbelievable atmosphere ” Rhau describes The Franklin as an upscale wine bar that still has the neighborhood vibe, like an extension of your living room.
Designed by the owners with reclaimed wood and a regular display of fresh flowers, The Franklin features outdoor seating, and street art which plays a significant role in expressing our identity and culture, from the iconic ODB mural, to the Buggin’ Out painting from the film Do the Right Thing.
Everything you need is at The Franklin like a one-stop shop for food, wine, conversation, and experience As Black men in the community, the partners wanted to ensure they positively impacted the area with all the changes surrounding Brooklyn and Clinton Hill. By keeping some of the original artwork displayed outside of their building, The Franklin reminds patrons that they are still grounded
Co-owner and manager Michael Gittens is responsible for ordering all wines, food, and kitchen-related items, as well as bookkeeping, and guest services “Our connections with wine representatives and the wine experience we cultivated during that time inspired us to create The Franklin. During COVID-19, customers would come into Franklin Cellars to not only purchase wine, but also to engage in conversations about wines, life, and the pandemic these meaningful interactions fueled our passion for establishing The Franklin Wine Bar ”
Though The Franklin is relatively new, they will celebrate their second anniversary in March of 2025. The journey has been incredibly rewarding They have made it their duty to work closely with staff and continuously educate themselves about the wines they offer The Franklin serves as a bridge for guests, connecting them to wine and helping them step outside their comfort zones to try new selections
“With a nod to Brooklyn's rich history and culture, this spot stands as a testament to the power of community and the importance of staying true to your roots."

Through the use of cooking techniques and sharing gourmet meals, Dr Racine Henry guides couples through interventions to help them achieve their treatment goals
Dr Racine Henry is a renaissance practitioner in Marriage and Family Therapy. She infuses a fresh approach to relationship therapy by blending the culinary arts with couples therapy to stimulate the senses of communication, collaboration, and goal execution for the couple's collective desirable outcome Dr Henry views couples therapy as part of building an infrastructure for families and communities. She believes, "couples therapy is so important because couples are the beginning of any family
By healing couples, we can heal future generations and entire communities." She agrees that relationship systems have a profound link to systems that balance people's connectivity globally Her work to heal couples is deemed so important that she developed her own theoretical framework for bringing couples together through culinary arts Her preparation for this career includes her Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy from Valdosta State University in Georgia, and a Ph.D. in Couples and Family Therapy from Drexel University in Philadelphia
Dr Henry was inspired to combine the culinary arts with therapy from her husband and daughter, along with their Jamaican and American cultures. It was important in their relationship that they shared a bond of their heritage through love, communication, collaboration, and food. Her theoretical framework, Integrative Culinary Therapy, is grounded in a connection of trust, respect, and a common humanity in relationship dynamics Dr Henry adds, "food and healing have been used throughout history by several cultures. There are physical benefits to eating certain foods, such as spices like saffron, to increase attention or reduce anxiety, and the dopamine benefits from proteins.”
“My approach to Integrative Culinary Therapy is not about teaching couples how to cook or intentionally eat foods for emotional health. It is about using food and cooking to foster connection and cultural intimacy By sharing and eating traditional or culturally relevant foods, couples can learn more about how early messages or cultural norms about romantic relationships influence their current adult relationship."
This culinary therapy process helps clients understand themselves as individuals and as a couple. The therapy dynamic allows partners to learn about each other and achieve healthy and positive goals through cooking together Dr Henry’s culinary arts expertise is self-taught through research and experimentation with recipes from around the world She has combined this knowledge to create a model for culinary arts and therapy, developing a pilot study through which she is refining Integrative Culinary Therapy as a model over a rigorous five-year period
Dr. Henry's approach has nine sessions in total There are alternating cooking and discussion sessions, starting and ending with a talk therapy session. Dr. Henry's theoretical model indicates that the conflicts that happen in the cooking space mirrors the conflict which occurs in couples’ homes According to Dr. Henry, couples report talking about their feelings more, their understanding of each other is stronger, and they are increasingly receptive to hearing their partner's perspective. Her theoretical objective according to Dr. Henry is, “food is a xx
vehicle for so many things I see it as a way to evoke memories, to connect, and a way to orient Black people to therapy in a way that is familiar and comfortable Therapy doesn't have to be in a sterile office with everyone looking at each other, not knowing what to say. It can be in the act of things we do every day such as cooking and eating ”
She adds, “So far, couples love that sessions happen in a cooking space with the feel of a date night They enjoy trying new recipes or recreating dishes that hold significance for them While cooking, therapy is happening, and transformative conversations are still occurring The impacts happen in subtle and obvious ways because the couple is more relaxed and caught off guard by the cooking exercises they're engaged in."
Additionally, Dr Henry cautions about the reality and reward of couples therapy. It is critical for couples to understand that the experience can also be complex and to stick to the process for maximum reward Common experiences in couples therapy include the following:
The Beginning
Know that sometimes things will get worse before they get better because new dialogue is occurring. There will be discussions about past issues, family or origin experiences, and time spent getting used to being in therapy
Let the Process Be the Process
This means sticking to the plan despite setbacks during therapy Expect hard sessions and discomfort but dedicate time and patience to the process. There will be bumps along the way, and progress will take shape over time
Discover A Palate for Love by Dr Racine Renee Henry, a cookbook that blends delicious recipes with insights on connection and self-discovery Inspired by her popular cooking show, this unique guide pairs heartwarming dishes with psychoeducational exercises, making every meal an opportunity for deeper bonding whether you're cooking solo, with a partner, oramongfriends
It's up to the couple for things to change. The therapy session is not where the change happens. Couples must apply what they are learning to their real life
Dr. Henry’s overall philosophy about embracing a cultural culinary lens in couples therapy is to assess and develop a sense of connectivity, collaboration, communication, and commitment Cooking with intention can help establish an authentic relationship bond based on deep understanding and intimacy.
Dr Henry is also educating the next generation of marriage and family therapists on this successful theoretical model that leverages a cultural lens. As a Black marriage and family therapist doctoral graduate armed with the cultural pedagogy of her Black professors, she has leaned in to identifying authentic space in the therapy theory and in the field.
As a professor, Dr Racine Henry invokes these words of wisdom to prospective and encourage current Black therapists to embrace their cultural identity As a Black professor of marriage and family therapy, these are Dr Henry's top suggestions on how to thrive as a Black therapist or therapist in training:
1 Develop a community of Black therapists to consult with and receive support.
2 Have a life beyond being a therapist Work as a therapist is demanding and consuming So, you deserve a break because you need to preserve your humanity.
3 Maintain a sense of humor with clients Clients do not want to only cry and commiserate. They need to relax and feel vulnerable in a safe space.

KEVIN A. RICHARDS
J’Nai Bridges is in constant motion, navigating a whirlwind world tour filled with prestigious performances, glamorous events, and deeply personal moments of reflection. In a mere 24 hours, she transitions from a performance with the Boston Symphony Chamber Orchestra on February 16 to landing in Detroit the next day, immediately diving into rehearsals with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. That same evening, she seamlessly shifts into high fashion mode for the symphony’s gala donor dinner.
Bridges recently captivated audiences at New York Fashion Week, walking the runway and delivering a stunning performance of Habanera from Carmen at the Frederick Anderson Fall/Winter 2025 show. This aria, officially titled L'amour est un oiseau rebelle, remains one of the most iconic in opera. Speaking to OperaWire, Bridges expressed her excitement at merging her love for high fashion with opera:
“One of my biggest goals is to show the versatility of not only myself but also opera and classical music! When I got the call from Frederick, I immediately knew this was a manifestation of my dreams. I was able to bring my voice and opera to a new audience, and I can’t wait for more artistic fusion moments. There is so much power in it!”
As she prepares to take on Carmen at the Wiener Staatsoper, VISTAS caught up with Bridges to discuss her career, challenges, and inspirations. The mezzosoprano, represented by IMG Artists, has performed Carmen over a dozen times, fully embracing the role’s bold and unapologetic nature. “Carmen’s message is: ‘Take me or leave me!’” Bridges says, noting that the character has become a sort of alterego for her.
“One of my biggest goals is to show the versatility of not only myself, but also of opera and classical music!”
Despite her meteoric rise, Bridges has faced challenges, including the struggle of being “othered” as a Black artist While she has not encountered overt discrimination, she has experienced microaggressions, particularly in the form of constant comparisons to other Black opera singers. One of her most emotionally demanding roles was The Rape of Lucretia by Benjamin Britten, which required deep internal work: “It gave me more empathy and an increased understanding”
Her international experiences have also been eye-opening In Europe, she has been struck not by racism but by profound admiration from fans. A particularly surprising moment came in Switzerland, where an encounter with the police led not to apprehension but to an unexpected compliment “I had to undo my assumptions and develop more curiosity,” she reflects
Even in transit, Bridges is recognized for her talent A recent interaction at Boston’s Logan Airport had a fellow traveler asking, “Are you an opera singer?” a moment that underscores her growing influence When asked about her mentors and collaborators, Bridges’ XXXXX
biggest supporters have been her family Mother Pamela, father Paris, siblings, nieces and nephews
To maintain her stamina, Bridges prioritizes self-care She heads to the gym for both mental and physical health, takes long walks to admire architecture, and even shoots a few hoops when she has the chance Pottery, which she hopes to revisit, provides a meditative escape Her vocal regimen includes sleep, daily apples to lubricate her vocal cords, humidifiers, honey, and throat-coat tea though dairy is strictly off the menu to prevent mucus buildup Before a performance, a carb-heavy meal, often pasta, fuels her demanding stage presence. “People don’t realize that opera singers are very much athletes,” she muses, wondering just how many calories she burns per performance
Beyond opera, Bridges is a two-time Grammy winner with aspirations for cross-genre collaborations, naming Jon Batiste and Kendrick Lamar as dream partners. Her impeccable style is another passion, favoring designers like Christian Siriano and Vera Wang, while eyeing Lebanese couturier Fouad Sarkis for future ensembles
Bridges’ accolades continue to mount In November 2024, she received the key to her hometown of Tacoma, WA a full-circle moment for the singer. As she prepares for upcoming performances of Carmen on May 31, June 3, and June 6, and Rigoletto with the San Francisco Opera from September 527, Bridges remains a force to be reckoned with in the world of opera

MEDITATIONS ON OVERCOMING OBSTACLES AND LIVING YOUR BEST LIFE LESSONS OF TRANSCENDENCE
Your purpose is in your soul at birth There is an internal source of life and purpose in your soul that you can feel It is an overwhelming understanding of your life journey that no one else might understand Your purpose shines outward when you share your gifts with the world Your dreams will become a reality when you put your purpose into action.
Refrain from expecting people to understand, endorse, support, or help you with your purpose Your vision rests in your unconscious soul only Successful people will understand your need to follow your inner soul People who have not followed their inner souls will tell you why your goals are impossible
Have you ever had an idea or dream that was different from your family, friends, or anyone you ever met? Well, your individual purpose is unique to you regardless of the people around you or your family DNA. Most unique people cannot create descents who mimic their greatness For example, there is not another Martin Luther King, Abe Lincoln, Micheal Jordan, Alicia Keys, Warren Buffet, or Jalen Hurts
It might take your entire life to figure out how to fulfill your purpose and vision But it does not matter how long it takes; get there, even if it is a fraction of your goal It will still be a profound accomplishment The satisfaction of fulfilling your purpose will validate your struggles, pain, suffering, and negative energy. Your purpose is the unique blueprint that you must follow Your mind, body, and spirit will navigate you to the instructions of your soul. Do not allow people or obstacles in the universe to place you on a predictable and marginal path that does not follow the instructions of your soul
Remember that you were miraculously created in uniqueness Not having duplicate thoughts or goals is not abnormal if you are tuned into your inner self Including outside opinions and contrary narratives only create confusion and distortions in your conceptualization, processing, and execution of goals. You might find yourself vulnerable when someone is preaching a narrative of doubt, or you might be sitting alone and creating more thoughts and emotions of doubt yourself. Negative self-talk can create crushing permanency in your ability to move forward to fulfill what you already know is your destiny.
Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl Quarterback, is an example of one understanding his purpose and transcending externalized narratives that are not congruent with his life purpose
Jalen Hurts does not embody the notion of fear but a measurement of faith which is incalculable His quote, “I had a purpose before people had opinions” denotes his profound internal moral fortitude to embrace his unwavering vision of success.
Hurts’ rise to winning the Super Bowl was not an easy road but one he understood as a solid path he envisioned It was his objective to get there regardless of barriers or other people’s interpretation of his talent.
His college football career began with the University of Alabama Crimson Tide as the quarterback, with two consecutive College Football Playoff Championships in 2016 and 2017 However, although he led the Crimson Tide to the playoffs, he was benched during the championship game for Tua Tagovailoa and spent his 2018 year as a backup quarterback
Hurts had patience and discipline in his current circumstances but fully understood that Alabama had transitioned from a landing to just one of the steps towards his landing at the NFL
Understanding his purpose, he maximized the depth of his understanding of himself to pivot to the Oklahoma Sooners and led them to 2019-2020 College Football Playoffs
His success in Oklahoma led him to being selected as the secondround pick of the NFL draft to join the Philadelphia Eagles as a starting quarterback His patience in following his internal xx
purpose kept him driving to Super Bowl LVII and beyond. Hurts’ defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs was utilized as a motivating factor to keep stepping up to his purpose of participating in Super Bowl LVIII.
He even remarked that "I didn't walk through all that fire just to smell the smoke." He kept the defeat to Kansas City as a screensaver with him walking through the red and gold colors of Kansas City Winning Super Bowl LVII so he could never forget his purpose and negate the opinions of why they were defeated Jalen Hurts understood that fire sharpened him like steel bending to fire to formulate a formidable, strong, and distinctive purpose
The Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl LVIII victory led by Hurts fueled his teammate's individual and collective understanding that their purpose was significant fuel to ignore outside opinions and step to the elevated landing of a Super Bowl XLVIII victory The emotional xxxx
Off the field, Hurts is known for his humble demeanor, strong work ethic, and commitment to giving back to the community A passionate advocate for education and empowerment, he remains grounded despite his rise to stardom With each season, Jalen Hurts continues to prove that he is not just a quarterback, but a leader, role model, and one of the brightest talents in the game
In 2023, Hurts solidified his place in NFL history, leading the Eagles to a Super Bowl victory against the Kansas City Chiefs His dynamic performance in the game, including his record-setting three rushing touchdowns, helped the Eagles secure their second championship in franchise history Hurts was named Super Bowl MVP, further cementing his status as one of the league’s elite quarterbacks
"IDIDN'TWALK THROUGHALL THATFIREJUST TOSMELLTHE SMOKE."
connectivity of the team, the support of the Philadelphia Eagle fans, the team's collective internal humbleness to believe in their purpose, led to their ultimate victory
Jalen Hurts, Super Bowl MVP continues to embrace his individual purpose with his allfemale management team with Nicole Lynn as his primary agent, along with Chantal Romain, and Shakeemah Simmons-Winter
Remember to Keep it Moving because no one can see your purpose. It is up to you to remind people that in the words of Jalen Hurts “you had a purpose before they had an opinion”

The Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show culminated with Not Like Us and TV Off, but let’s rewind to the electrifying xXxxx opening, where Kendrick Lamar declared, “The revolution will not be televised!” a direct homage to Gil Scott-Heron. As a multi-Grammy Award winner and the only rapper to hold a coveted Pulitzer Prize, Kendrick Lamar transformed the halftime stage into a powerful commentary on modern America, culture, and systemic issues
The performance was visually striking At one point, dancers formed symbolic stars and stripes on a staircase, all set against a stage designed to resemble a PlayStation controller In the corner, a 1987 Buick GNX was elevated on a platform, a nod to both hip-hop culture and nostalgic iconography. XXXX
The performance featured a sea of dancers, including Turf Feinz from Oakland, CA, adding depth and authenticity to the choreography.
As the performance intensified, a pivotal moment arrived: Uncle Sam, exasperated, screamed, “Too loud!” before turning to the camera and ordering, “Scorekeeper, deduct one life!” a direct reference to Squid Game The show also featured subtle nods to Spike Lee’s legacy, including a narrator reminiscent of Chi-Raq (originally portrayed by Samuel L Jackson) and a reference to 40 Acres and a Mule the unfulfilled promise of land and resources to formerly enslaved African Americans after the Civil War
One of the most intricate visual moments came in the final eightcounts, when the lock-step XXXXxXXX
performers spelled out “Compton” in Braille using red and blue for raised and unraised dots, with white denoting spaces a touch recognized to @jaethefade.
Choreographer Charm La’Donna, who has worked with artists like Meghan Trainor, Beyoncé, and Dua Lipa, crafted breathtaking routines. Frequent collaborator SZA delivered stunning renditions of Luther and All the Stars from the Black Panther soundtrack Excitingly, she will also be featured on Kendrick Lamar’s upcoming 2025 Grand National Tour
One of the buzzworthy moments was the surprise appearance of Serena Williams, strutting onto the stage with effortless confidence “That was the best 15 seconds of fame,” she quipped. “I gotta get famous for something!”
Mustard, the supreme beat master, also made a cameo, flashing a bedazzled chain. Known for sending Kendrick five beats a day, Mustard has faced criticism for his beats being “too simple,” but his presence underscored the long-standing creative synergy between the two.
The halftime show was dissected across YouTube, with reactions, critiques, and watch parties spanning from living rooms to HBCUs. One of the most unforgettable moments was the crowd’s thunderous response to Kendrick’s A-minor lyric, echoing in unison an indescribable experience best felt in the moment
In one segment, Lamar stood amidst the Turf Feinz dancers, evoking the essence of hanging out on a street corner, while another sequence showcased four pop-lock dancers playfully sparring with him to the teasing beats of Not Like Us Each of these vignettes served as fuel for Uncle Sam’s growing frustration, leading to even sharper admonitions
Unpacking the layers of symbolism woven throughout the performance includes and analysis of Uncle Sam played by none other than Samuel L. Jackson who embodied the enforcer of the status quo, cautioning, “Too ghetto!” as he attempted to suppress artistic expression, social justice critiques, and the call to “Turn the TV Off” to truly see the world.
The dancers, clad in colors of the American flag red, white, and blue represented the complex entanglement of identity, freedom, and systemic oppression. Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show was more than just entertainment it was a statement, a spectacle, and a challenge to the audience With its layers of symbolism, masterful choreography, and unflinching commentary, it will undoubtedly be dissected for years to come
