Celebration of Lights
The Celebration of Lights is a beloved VMRC tradition that brings residents, families, and community members together to honor and remember loved ones. The evening includes a meaningful worship service in Detwiler Auditorium. Proceeds from the event support Compassion Funding, which provides financial assistance to residents who have outlived their resources, ensuring they receive the care and support they need.

39th Annual VMRC Golf Benefit in Honor of Diane Weaver
The 39th Annual VMRC Golf Benefit in Honor of Diane Weaver is a signature event supporting VMRC’s Memory Care Endowment, which benefits residents living with dementia-related diseases and their family caregivers. This annual tournament is an opportunity for golfers, sponsors, and volunteers to come together for a day of fun and philanthropy while making a meaningful impact on the lives of VMRC residents.
This beloved tournament honors the legacy of Diane Weaver, a cherished member of the VMRC community whose commitment to creating a culture of compassion and care remains an inspiration. Since its inception in 1986, the event has raised more than $1.9 million to support those living with memory-related conditions.

VMRC Juried Art Exhibition
The VMRC Juried Art Exhibition, now in its 22nd year, showcases an extraordinary collection of original, one-of-a-kind artworks from talented artists across the country. This annual event has become a cornerstone of the Shenandoah Valley arts scene, bringing together residents, community members, and visitors to celebrate creativity and artistic excellence. Featuring a wide variety of media and styles, the exhibition reflects VMRC’s commitment to enriching lives through the arts. Organized and managed by VMRC residents, the exhibition not only highlights exceptional talent but also reinforces the importance of fostering cultural engagement and lifelong learning within the community.

Active Aging Week
Active Aging Week is a celebration of vitality, resilience, and the endless possibilities at every stage of life. Created by the International Council on Active Aging in 2003, this special week highlights the importance of embracing wellness, staying active, and fostering relationships to empower individuals to age well and live fully.
Throughout the week, VMRC residents and community members enjoy engaging events that promote the Eight Dimensions of Wellness: emotional, vocational, physical, financial, spiritual, intellectual, social, and environmental. The week culminates with the bustling VMRC Wellness Fair on Main Street in Park Gables, featuring interactive activities, educational booths, and more.
